h/t Hot Air - This pretty much sums up what's come to be my opinion of much of NRO these days. Jonah Goldberg writing on the Blagojevich scandal. This is what happens when you become "of the government" as opposed to "of the people" in an Inside the Beltway sort of way.
But in another sense, this is just plain enjoyable. It's like when you watch "Cops" and the idiot burglar tries to hide beside a tree in the dark, even though he's wearing light-up sneakers. It's like when Dan Rather dares the world to prove he's a clueless ass-clown. It's just good stuff. There's no tragedy here. No wasted potential. No undeserving victims.
With no apologiesto Goldberg whatsoever, some of us are not so jaded as to dismiss the profound tragedy a Blogojevich represents. But then we're the victims - the taxpayers. And as for wasted potential? Read the Constitution or contemplate that we are supposed to be a nation of laws, you insulated, to use your word, "ass-clown," a word which shouldn't even be on NRO imo.

John Thacker is right, and you are wrong, Dan. Blago isn't a tragic figure, he's just another crook. The voters of IL, who re-elected him knowing he's a crook, are getting what they deserve.

"Someone did not read the final paragraph of Goldberg's column"
Ahem, what Goldberg recently wrote isn't what he wrote that I linked above. No idea why the link is broken. Try the one below. I noticed he didn't say there are no victims in this new item of his. I guess he's a coward and a bit of a snake for playing it this way, too. As for humor, I have no problem laughing at Blogo - done it here myself. But to say there is no tragedy, no victims of him - that's just Kathleen Parker dumb.

The tragedy in this is that our nation's vigilance at trying to find a leader we can trust has taken another hit towards indifference.

"Lastly, NRO is too busy killing Republicans to bother with Chicago's whorehouse"
Just curious - what Republicans have been "killed" by NRO?

"Self-Serving Sanctimony Watch." I'd say Jonah pretty much has you pegged on this one.

Thomas sowell is my favorite libertarian economist and social conservative political thinker since milton friedman died. As for conservative radio talk show hosts noone is better on the right that I know of than Mark levin, Andrew wilkow, and Mike church. I've even got a soft spot in my little blackened heart for Alan Colmes and Olbermann.
I can't stand ann coulter though she is not a republican. She is not intelligent. She is a good for nothing neo-con. The bible thumping conservatives give our party a really bad name, IMHO. Time to take it back to the epoch of Barry goldwater.

The issue of Blagojevich is not "a profound tragedy".
I'm a taxpayer and I don't feel like a "victim."
Time to visit The Corner - a little too much melodrama in these parts.
Man up Reihl.

The symbolic issue of Blagojevich is the tragedy, and viewed in the collective of rotten politicians in this country, we are all victims. Broaden your vision and add another brick to the divisiveness we're suffering already.
Enjoy The Corner where the editor cannot write a complete sentence without a parenthetical phrase. Cool, clear thinking that.

Riehl: "...large sections of America have done with their right to elect representatives. They've squandered it and will continue to because they are so ignorant."
This sounds, umm, elitist.

Sorry, unlike you, a self-inflicted tragedy is not the sort of thing I feel compelled to cry crocodile tears over. This is just exactly what the 'hear no evil, see no evil, speak no evil' voters of Illinois who voted for a 'known Illinois Democrat' for governor deserve. The ones who didn't vote for him likely feel the same way I do about all you crybabies: cry me a river over your boy going to the big house.

There is one must read I have, the two or so times a week she writes a column. She's the brightest bulb on the planetary pundit tree in my not so humble (about this subject, at least) opinion.
Caroline Glick of the Jerusalem Post.
If you're not reading her, and regularly, you're missing incredibly insightful geopolitical analysis ...and perhaps irregular political analysis of both the US and Israel, but when she covers a subject, it's always worth reading what she has to say. The woman knows her stuff.
And I don't think ymmv at all: on her worst days, she's better than most ...and on a good day, global reality is revealed. She has an piercing intellect, and is a superb writer.
Geez. I don't mean to sound like her agent. But I really don't think enough people know about her.
