Via Ace - linking to self-confessed, large-breasted conservative Cassy Fiano linked to liberal blog Feministing on office attire. Jill's argument is pointed and perky, sure - but does it really hold up over time and under scrutiny?
On the one hand some might reasonably argue that there is no such thing as "too much" cleavage - certainly. While on the other hand, some might think she's making a mountain out of a molehill there. Just playing devil's advocate.
Of course, I can feel Stacy McCain's pain as a feeling male's feeling maligned - just not sure I can grasp Jill's cleavage thing, though in fairness, perhaps some readers might like to give it a shot. If anyone gets a handle on it, feel free to weigh in in comments. As you know, I'm all for freedom of expression, cleaved, or not.
"That implies that some amount of cleavage is OK, but that there is a limit. So what is the amount? How do you measure that amount? It’s been arbitrarily defined by a supervisor, yet that standard has not been shared in this offensive email.
So what has happened is that this woman has been singled out and told that she is being held to a certain nebulous standard, one of being able to show some cleavage, but not “too much” cleavage. Thus, the reality of living in a perpetual state catch-22 (one of the patriarchy’s strongest tools) which is inherent to having a vagina is perpetuated on an individual, personal and physical level.

When is too much cleavage ever a bad thing Dan?
Where are all of those closet conservatives today when you show your humorous side with little zingers like, "pointed and perky" and "a mountain out of a mole hill".
I can't help but think of the movie line, "Did you do the motorboat on em!"
Besides where else can these gals store the popcorn they dropped at the movie theater?
Maybe these feminists would be happy with an Islamic dress code!
