Interesting that Blago's General Counsel has resigned. Maybe he took a deal from the Feds to save his own butt. But a serious question to the more lawyerly among us.
Blago plans on fighting the current charges, as well as impeachment. If I understand it correctly, Blago's constitutional responsibility in Illinois IS to appoint a replacement under current conditions. I believe the legislature failed to remove that authority, or set a special election.
From a purely legal perspective, couldn't Blago stand accused of failing to carry out his stated duties if he failed to make an appointment, no matter what Harry Reid or anyone else thinks?
Could you imagine the hilarity of a situation in which Blago actually prevails against the corruption charges and gets removed for failing to meet his responsibility relevant to Obama's seat?
Frankly, it does seem to me he can at least make the case that he is compelled to act because of the failure of the legislature in Illinois.
Ultimately, Burris looks more like a place holder at 71, than anything.

While the Illinois Democratics so amiably discuss the issue of bringing the Senate up to its proper number of members, something new is going on in my state, Florida. Yesterday a street in Ft. Lauderdale became La Calle de los Fieros, the Street of the Savages. Behold the faithful of the religion of peace exercising their human rights. Islamic rage boys and girls in action.
