Rich ... even for the WaPo's Rich Cohen writing on the Rick Warren affair. It seems it's put a damper on his gay sister's party attitude. He is so sharp that he actually knew all this a year ago. I guess it served no good purpose to really hammer it home way back when? Maybe he was hoping Obama would change?
Actually, it's his intolerance of tolerance that's most revealing of today's liberal mindset. It's wrong-headed at best. But it is somewhat delicious watching these clowns get just what they deserve.
This was apparent to me almost a year ago when I reported that Obama's church, the Trinity United Church of Christ, had given a major award to Louis Farrakhan, the anti-Semitic leader of the Nation of Islam. The award was presented in Wright's name and featured in a cover story in the church's magazine, Trumpet. When I asked the Obama campaign about this, I was told that Obama himself did not agree with Farrakhan. What a relief!
And what a joke. I never for a moment thought Obama viewed Farrakhan any differently from the way I do. But I also thought that as a U.S. senator, as a presidential candidate or even as a mere citizen, he had an obligation to denounce the award -- maybe quit the church. Do something! He did nothing.

Wow. Kinda like we told ya so?
Listen, as long as constituents of Democratic affiliated groups vote overwhelmingly for Democrats, they'll continue to be house negros who are readily ignored. Why should Obama appeal to the GLBA community when he already owns it? Conservatives and libertarians have warned about it to the point of finding it tiresome, yet the same outcome continues to recur and those groups don't learn. They would find much more respect as an individual over here, rather than being regarded as constantly complaining, emotional crybabies by traditional Democrats.
As a libertarian, I'm supportive of equal legal rights but have explained to my GLBA friends that taking a head-on attack against a word that means something else and carries the world's churches behind it in defense is idiotic, certain to result in wasted political capital and failure.

Cohen is a hack and the left has known it for years. You GOPers are welcome to his snively ass.

Whhaaaa!! You won't suck up to my perverted sister's and her friends.
She's such a wonderful role model!

Lefturd tolerance - we accept everyone who thinks exactly like we do - otherwise we hate you.

Libtard Cohen is a bro of sister skank who should have been shown the door at WaPo a decade ago. What a fruity-toot-toot candyass!

I'm sure we all remember Cohen thundering from his bully pulpit at the WaPo about the rank hypocrisy of Obama over the handling of Jeremiah Wright. About him boldly raising the Sword of Justice and waving it at the readers and shouting out "Obama Shall Not Pass!".

My favorite thing about the column is how clueless Cohen is. He's offended that Warren would compare same sex marriage to polygamy. Why? Exactly how does he get off telling us that SSM is perfectly fine (and, despite the fact that no one ever heard of it a hundred years ago, it's a fundamental right), but polygamy, which has been around for all of human history, that is unacceptable and evil.
Shorter Richard Cohen: Goring my ox: bad. Goring anyone else's ox: good.

Progressives vote tribally. If they think you are a member of their tribe, then they assume you must be okay on all counts. Why bother yourself with such trifles as getting the data, of researching a candidate's record and positions? They deemed Obama a member of the tribe, and vilified all those who spoke against him as if their own grandmother were being insulted.
They have tried to sell the false position that Against gay marriage = Against gays for the last decade (no one would have dreamed the equivalence before that) and are now shocked that One Of Their Own didn't buy it.
The repeated collisions of liberals with adulthood over the next few years is going to be entertaining. If we can survive whatever cockamamie ideas Obama still has planned (or Democratic ideas he won't veto), this might end up being good for the nation in the long run.
We should start practicing now to be gracious to whatever percentage of poor souls on the left learns to Cowboy Up. They'll be good allies.

Greg quoth
"Shorter Richard Cohen: Goring my ox: bad. Goring anyone else's ox: good"
He should fit right in today's GOP, then.
Personally, I find Rev. Warren's equating my twelve-year-marriage with incest or pedophilia more offensive than equating it with polygamy, for some reason. I'm dating from our first wedding (Baptist minister, no license), not the second (UCC minister, license).

Let's alter the script a little. Let's suppose that Obama had chosen a minister that is a long time member of the NRA. Would strident gun control advocates cancel their inauguration parties?

Greg hit the nail on the head with his "Shorter Richard Cohen: Goring my ox: bad. Goring anyone else's ox: good"
its so funny that in order to defend his sisters gay relationship he simultaneously denigrates polygamous ones, when as you rightly state, polygamy has has a much legitimate historical relevance than gay marriage. Would Richard stand up for those who wish to be in polygamous relationships? No? then why should anyone stand up for his sister and her deviant relationship? And how dare he compare polygamy to incest for example. What a bigot!!!I notice that he didn't cry out about Warren's anti polygamous bias, and I'd imagine were Warren not so outspoken in his anti gay marriage that his stance on polygamy wouldn't merit one jot of outrage from him or his sister. In fact, I bet she'd still have her party (despite the fact that WRight is such a bigot when it comes to polygamy).

Whenever I read something that makes me angry at the liberal media, I always go to Newsosaur on Blogspot or or Angryjournalist dot com to cheer up. Works every time.

By the way, not actually saying we should allow polygamy, only pointing out what a bigot Richard actually is. Goring Richard's ox as it were.

I don't think conservatives should read anything at all in to the Warren invocation invitation.
If O has to nominate someone for the SCOTUS on his first day in office, he will choose someone like himself who is pro abortion to the point of infanticide, Warren be damned (and forgotten).
Democrats govern for the moment . . . and this moment means nothing. It has already passed.

Incest? Why? Are you telling me that there's nothing wrong with traditional norms and biological imperatives preventing two consenting adults from getting married?
Posted by: Stephen | Tuesday, December 23, 2008 at 05:21 PM
Stephen, lets not forget interspecies marriage. Why should anyone object to two consenting members of different species marrying? (Some of those green-skinned aliens in Star Trek were hot!!)

"-- Warren is a beard. Temporary, convenient and expedient. --"
I wish the evil liberals were as keen as you are.
After decades of GOP lip service and false piety, it's about time the Dems hooked up to that gravy train.
The best thing about Evangelicals is that they're so damn gullible you can get them to believe just about anything so long as you don't try to engage them with "facts" or "evidence" or anything out of a textbook. All these years pounding on scientific studies and Nancy Pelosi just needed to parade out the lastest Jesus-tron 5000 to announce "Oil bad! Electric Good!". We'd have had the entire environmental issue locked up years ago. :-p Better late than never, I guess.
