First, for the Moonbats who might scream because I believe Barack Obama is "un-American," well, sorry, but he is.
When I use the term, I am referring to people, institutions and politicians who believe in something different from what the Founding Fathers envisioned for this country. And Obama is surely that. I don't care about his "centrist" rhetoric. I imagine he'll try and play nice. But the man is a Leftist and Leftism is un-American by definition. So chew on that.
But he isn't going to try and "move America Left." He and like-minded individuals are going to try and re-define the Center of American politics, thereby making the Left seem more centrist. Watch what he does below the headlines with regulatory agencies and such. That'll be the better clue as to his real agenda.
He's a collectivist through and through. And collectivism and the basic premise of American exceptional-ism are two very different things.
Obama and the Democrats are going to try and use the current financial crisis to re-make this country more in the model of modern Europe than traditional America. And in that they must not be allowed to succeed.
There's much work to be done by conservatives and Republicans and nothing is going to happen overnight. But once this election defeat is parsed to an annoying degree as so many seem intent on doing, the next two, four, six and eight years will be an invigorating time for conservatives in America.
The battle lines will be drawn around positions and policies. Old and new alliances need to form, or re-shape. But stay vigilant and vibrant, my conservative friends. Over the years ahead we are going to fight to preserve everything that truly makes America great. And in the end, I don't believe we will lose.
The fact is, the vast majority of Americans actually want us to succeed.
A Rasmussen survey conducted Oct. 2 found that 59% agreed with the sentiment expressed by Reagan in his first inaugural address: "Government is not the solution to our problem; government is the problem." Just 28% disagreed with this sentiment. That survey also found that 44% of Obama voters agreed with Reagan's assessment (40% did not). And McCain voters overwhelmingly supported the Gipper.

Warrentless spying on American's is an American as George Bush.
And imprisoning American's without a trial, without charges and without a lawyer is too. For as long as the President chooses just because the President says so.
I'm sure all of you patriots are going to defend Obama's power to maintain these American traditions.

see for conservatives, being un-american means hating the idea of conservative america.
You can hate as many americans: liberals, leftists, collectivists, union workers, unemployed, women, blacks, latinos, professors, college students, coffee shop patrons, immigrants, homosexuals, younger people, muslims, mainline protestants, jews, and many more. You can hate all these people, which often amounts to more than half the country, and still be Pro-America.

Dan; unlike some of the typical reactinaries among us, I actually read and thought about your post. I think, hope, pray that you could be wrong. If one listens closely, reads carefully you find 99% of what obie says is a repeat and some of that was said by repugnicans.....example? Obie mewls about volunteerism....or "a thousand points of light". Eh, whatever, my point is that I am willing to give him a chance to prove both sides wrong.....just as I look forward to laughing at the disappointed of both sides.....Still, I sleep with one eye opened.

What is he waiting for???? According to the "believers" he is capable of parting the sea, walking on water and turning water into wine!!!! Where the hell is free health care, free collge for my kid and my tax rebate!!!!!!
And how come we arent out of Iraq yet!!!!

Dan, I agree. Good post !
The American people, unless they have or do completely go mad will not sit back and allow this to happen, you can count on that.
I hope the conservatives will stand up and "fight" against anything that is out of line or extreme.
If we all do this then I do believe we will be okay. We can't just stand back and watch it happen. I hope this will only last for 4 years and not 8.
We will watch and see what goes on.
If a march on Washington is necessary then that should be done !
Hold on to your hats, we are in for a wild ride.

I hate to be the one to have to break this to you, but GWB is still in office and sadly, will be there until about january 20, 2009. That is why we're still in Iraq and your water still tastes like water and some of us still have this gross distaste in our own mouths. It's beeen a tough eight years but, sarcasm and all, you just try and hold on. You can make it. Yes you can! LOL

Yeah, okay.
I'll let Thomas Jefferson respond.
"But it does me no injury for my neighbor to say there are twenty gods or no God. It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg.
-Thomas Jefferson, Notes on Virginia, 1782"
"Question with boldness even the existence of a god; because if there be one he must approve of the homage of reason more than that of blindfolded fear.
-Thomas Jefferson, letter to Peter Carr, August 10, 1787"
"Where the preamble declares, that coercion is a departure from the plan of the holy author of our religion, an amendment was proposed by inserting "Jesus Christ," so that it would read "A departure from the plan of Jesus Christ, the holy author of our religion;" the insertion was rejected by the great majority, in proof that they meant to comprehend, within the mantle of its protection, the Jew and the Gentile, the Christian and Mohammedan, the Hindoo and Infidel of every denomination.
-Thomas Jefferson, Autobiography, in reference to the Virginia Act for Religious Freedom"
"Believing with you that religion is a matter which lies solely between man and his God, that he owes account to none other for his faith or his worship, that the legislative powers of government reach actions only, and not opinions, I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should 'make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof,' thus building a wall of separation between church and State.
-Thomas Jefferson, letter to Danbury Baptist Association, CT., Jan. 1, 1802"
"History, I believe, furnishes no example of a priest-ridden people maintaining a free civil government. This marks the lowest grade of ignorance of which their civil as well as religious leaders will always avail themselves for their own purposes.
-Thomas Jefferson to Alexander von Humboldt, Dec. 6, 1813."
"Christianity neither is, nor ever was a part of the common law.
-Thomas Jefferson, letter to Dr. Thomas Cooper, February 10, 1814"

If you want to stage a March, the way has already be paved for you. Suggest you research the really big March that happened in August 1963 when the preacher from Georgia outlined his dream for America. You might also want to take a look at the "Eyes on The Prize" series. Lots and lots of historical references on how you could go about accomplishing this nonviolently. Of course, you do want to be nonviolent don't you?

Yeah, the one JFK found "annoying." Ha.
Posted by: Dan Riehl | Monday, November 10, 2008 at 04:21 PM
Very interesting, scar, but you must know that these were the opinions of Jefferson, not neccessarity the entirity of the Founding Fathers. Many, including Washington, Hamilton, and Adams took issue with Jefferson over some of his thoughts, or ignored him altogether.
Jefferson has turned out to be my least favorite of the FF, perhaps because of his support for the Jacobins in France, or perhaps it was his immorality, the way he treated his slaves, or his personality. Or a combination of all.

I'm sorry to say that I can't stand the little snots that mingle around in those coffee shops, Dan. I just have to disagree with you on this. And I usually don't disagree with you, but you're wrong this time. I'm thinking about setting off a stink bomb in the nearest coffee house, which will probably get me accused of a terrorist attack under our new rulers, so I better do it quick. Or maybe throwing my pet skunk in the place would do. I'll think about it awhile, but I know my time to act is getting short.

Wild Irish Rose maybe, since he barely squoze it out....people like me who couldn't stomach voting for either one of them I guess. Dan, I won't split hairs with you even though I think Barack Obama is anti-american, non-american and completely opposed to everything I hold sacred about America. But I will settle for un-american which is the most judicious and probably smartest description at this point.
Great post. I'm hanging on by a thread and hanging on your analysis right now. I haven't much to add but I'm lurking as hard as I can.

How about this. Wild Irish Rose, MD 20/20, or whatever. Go give it to some homeless wino on the streets of North Carolina. It'll make his day.
You're a good man, Willie, and I have a feeling you'll come through.

Wahoo Willie,
Isn't it funny how time brings about its own changes? Both JFk and RFK's children are ardent supporters of President-Elect O'Bama. Caroline, despite being the First lady to a Republican Governor never, ever held back her support and has been very high up in the campaign. Just shows that your and Dan's offsprings will probably end up supporting people and positions that you disdain. That's usually how that goes. Life is good!

They just may, though it hasn't happened yet. They were raised to be independant thinkers not whiners and welfare takers. Most likely why they are all doing so very well. One just started a new business, her third, which she will likely grow and sell at a profit. They've disagreed on many issues, many times and there is NOTHING they could do or say that would dimish my total love and admiration for who they are.................Your life may be "good", mine is better.

I do too much volunteer crap, travel takes a load of effort and I'm futzing around the shop so much that I HAVE to allow my wife in my man cave. And moving to a warmer clime. I'm tired of the cold winters on the Texas plain, and the wind blowing day after day. A calm, still day is something to wish for out here, I'll tell you that. Oh, well, I guess I'm getting old. But I'll head south and east, most likely, Willie. Maybe the mountains of Arkansas, or the Gulf Coast of Alabama. My wife will probably make the final decision.

Dan, so you claim Obama is Un-American. Please give us your definition of what being "American" is. Lay out your argument. Or should I assume that your babbling nonsense again?
Posted by: mj | Monday, November 10, 2008 at 06:09 PM
He laid out his arguments in his post. Why don't you read his post before you criticize the guy? You might not agree with what he said, but you ought to at least read more than the title before you comment, mj.
Posted by: templar knight | Monday, November 10, 2008 at 06:19 PM
templar,
I'm with you on the wind. In my old age I find it very unsettling. I'd rather it be a little colder than windy.
Except on the golf course. The wind creates many more problems than one would think. And I like it. About anything can happen.
Posted by: jharp | Monday, November 10, 2008 at 06:27 PM
I had to go back and re-read Dan's post....maybe MJ needed pictures.
Yeah, the wind is a bit tougher on old bones, esp when it's cold. Hit 40 and everything you ever bumped, bruised or broke starts hurting.....
Posted by: WAHOO WILLIE | Monday, November 10, 2008 at 07:07 PM
Read it again and still didn't pick out his argument.
Dan stated a conclusion: "Obama is Un-American" but didn't state how he got to that point. Is the only proof that he is an alleged "Leftist" and "Leftism" is Un-American? You gotta to better than that. If you can't lay out the argument, the I have to assume your full of it.
Posted by: mj | Monday, November 10, 2008 at 07:47 PM
I'll hit 44 in February, Willie. For the first time in my life, I find that I no longer have 20/20 vision. Now that's unsettling! LOL.

templar,
I also had excellent eyesight until about your age. Hate to tell but it ain't gonna get any better.
And the latest for me health wise is two cases of the gout. Not fun.
But no complaining from me. One of our golf group was recently diagnosed with a brain tumor. Now that sucks.

Posted by: Mossberg500 | Monday, November 10, 2008 at 10:20 PM
Obama was simply a mouthpiece for the Democratic party ideology. The party used his cult-like charisma to reclaim the White House. There will be no grand reforms, great visions, "change we need", nor "change we can believe in" -- just closer adherence to Democratic party values (Bill Clinton was elected based upon a very similar theme of change). First of all, Obama doesn't have the experience or track record to make racial changes contructively, and secondly, the Dems aren't totally stupid. They want to keep control over the White House and congress, and they can't do that for very long with someone who is unpredictable, grossly inexperienced/competent to the point where it becomes an embarrassment, and so far left wing in his thinking that it would alienate the mainstream of his own party.
Posted by: Mark Turner | Monday, November 10, 2008 at 10:29 PM
