Obama Opts For The Prevent D

It seems fairly apparent that Obama has opted to play prevent defense with just two days to go before the election. That's a dangerous play under any circumstances. Doing it when the news cycle last hours, not days, could prove to be even more disastrous.

At least two Jeremiah Wright ads are running in key states. Everyone, including CBS, is talking about Obama bankrupting the coal industry to a nation that, based upon undecideds and Obama's inability to really break away from below 50%, has yet to become comfortable with him as President.

His half hour of television hasn't seem to seal the deal and only the polls with the dreamiest of turn out models for Obama have him well ahead.

The coal issue is important in PA, VA, WV, CO and OH and piles on top of his having already been portrayed as a socialist, no friend of business, or of wealth.

The man who used tons of money to put his image and voice everywhere for months is refusing to answer questions until after Election Day. That only serves to help a certain arrogance come through.

While it would be foolish to discount whatever lead Obama might actually have, he proved to be a poor closer in the primaries. His performance in the General may be mirroring that. Some are pointing to Intrade, a poor predictor if there ever was one, to suggest the race is already over.

If you want to think about gambling, think horse racing, instead.

McCain supporters need to be sure and get out and vote and keep fighting until the end. I remain unconvinced America wants to saddle up with a mostly unknown President who breaks fast from the gate with a lot of flash but lacks the stamina to finish strongly in the end.

Or stick with the football analogy if you wish. There's nothing worse than sitting there watching your team maintain a lead for three and a half quarters, only to see it squandered with the Prevent D in the end.

With so many undecideds seemingly still struggling to make up their mind, I'm not sure it was wise for Obama to give up so much ground in Ohio, PA, Fla and elsewhere as the clock ticks down. And that's precisely what he has been doing these last few days.

What's even worse is watching the other team run the clock down when they have the ball. McCain has to win Florida, Georgia, Missouri, Indiana, Montana, Ohio and North Carolina in order to have a chance. If he loses any one of these states, then Obama wins. If you look at the polls in some of these places, you realize why McCain only has a 6.3% chance of winning this election.

And it's not like Obama supporters have stopped making phone calls and canvassing neighborhoods. His ground game is still going strong.

I just checked the longer history for every relevant state. There is no question that things are tightening up and moving in McCain's direction. Whether there's enough time of McCain/Palin to pull it out - I don't know. The other upside is that except in a few rare cases, Obama hasn't broken fifty percent in most if not all of those states. Given the hype and exposure, one might expect him to have been running consistently at 52-53 all around. He never has.

Yes, it's still a longshot for McCain. But concluding that it's over before all the people actually vote is never a good idea. It's certainly worth fighting for until the end.

McCain himself will start a hectic day of barnstorming in Tampa, Fla. Before jetting off to visit six other states in a tour that includes a rally at the Pittsburgh International Airport in Moon Twp. McCain also plans stops in Tennessee, Indiana, New Mexico, Nevada and his home state of Arizona.

Gov. Sarah Palin, McCain's running mate, has a similarly busy schedule with six stops in five states, including Ohio, Iowa, Missouri, Colorado and Nevada.

Sen. Obama will spend Monday visiting three battleground states, Florida, North Carolina and Virginia. His running mate, Sen. Joe Biden is scheduled to be in Ohio, Missouri and Philadelphia. Pres. Bill Clinton and Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton also have Pennsylvania appearances scheduled on Obama's behalf.

Was watching the Colts game. And I am taking the election for granted. It's gonna be a landslide.

And McCain is going to lose Virginia, Pennsylvania, and most likely North Carolina. Those educated city folk just aren't easy to fool.

You are right about Prevent Defense ... and noting how frequently it prevents teams from winning ROFLMAO! Now that I'm thinking about it ... we may learn there were two phases two this shift; the first was in arrogance, thinking he (Obama) was going to win huge when - either way - it's going to be close. the second was when they realized they were in trouble and had to begin responding to their errors. that put Obama off his game and now he's lost his mojo ... while the Mac is Back and McCain + Palin have the right momentum at the right time and - hopefully - in the right place. Two weeks ago the liberals + press basically told John McCain to stand aside and to take his beating like a man. He decided to fight. It's been an impressive run and sure a heck of a lot funner than watching Bob Dole fade away ... but should McCain + Palin win - as it seems a longshot but good bet now - it will only be sweeter to see the huge servings of crow and other tasties that Sarah Palin will get to hand to the media.

If Barack Obama loses the election, will he graciously concede? According to an open letter signed by author Gore Vidal and a gaggle of leftists, Obama should not concede under almost any conditions. WITH JUST ONE DAY TO GO.... On the eve of Election Day, four national pollsters have released their final surveys of the season. If there's good news for the McCain campaign in these final results, it's hiding well.

USA Today/Gallup: Obama leads McCain by 11, 53% to 42%, among likely voters. One of the key results that jumped out at me had to do with taxes: 48% of voters believe Obama will raise their taxes, but 50% believe McCain will do the same.

Susan Page, USA Today's Washington bureau chief, added, "One more historic tidbit from the survey: Obama's favorable rating is 62% -- the highest that any presidential candidate has registered in Gallup's final pre-election polls going back to 1992."

CBS News: Obama leads McCain by 13, 54% to 41%. The report added, "More than nine in 10 of each candidate's voters now say they have made up their minds about who to vote for and are not likely to change. Just seven percent of Obama voters and 8 percent of McCain voters say they still might change their minds."

NBC News/Wall Street Journal: Obama leads McCain by eight, 51% to 43%. This tidbit struck me as interesting: "Voters are just as likely to identify with Sen. Obama's background and values as they are with Sen. McCain's, with the Democrat having made up substantial ground in this regard."

Hillary was supposed to lose most states big, too. Turns out she came roaring back from polls that showed her losing just as badly in states like Pennsylvania.

It's all about Obama trying to disqualify his opponent and drive down turnout. Seems that the Messiah can't win on the merits, so he sends out trolls like jharp to throw public screaming fits and funky polls all over the place to keep people from voting.

This race is nowhere near close, nor has it been for about two months now.

Pretty comical to see GOP fanboys waving the same one or two polls that call it close enough to give them hope. Even Karl Rove has called this for Obama, & decisively so. McCain's finishing up the ugliest, lousiest campaign in Americans' living memory - his selection of Palin was pure political seppuku: at this point, Dukakais riding on top of that battle-tank looks like JFK next to him.

The Republicans have turned themselves into a joke, with nobody to blame but themselves - there's been no sabotage, no treason, no conspiracies ... just orgy after orgy of full-bore stupid, with the lid off & the throttle down.

You had power for 20 of the last 30 years - & America is on its knees as a result.
