Geez! You know, the man is eighty-two. He lived and worked most of his life when all of this political correct nonsense didn't hold sway. Don't these various and sundry alliances and task forces have something else to do besides demand an apology from one very old man?
It just seems, ... I don't know, a little queer, somehow. ; )
CANBERRA, Australia (AP) - Jerry Lewis made an anti-gay slur on Australian television similar to one he apologized for using on his annual telethon a year ago.
Following a news conference in Sydney Friday, Lewis, 82, was asked by a Network Ten national TV reporter for his opinion on the Australian nation sport of cricket.
"Oh, cricket? It's a f-- game. What are you, nuts?" Lewis replied.
The network broadcast the comment in full on its Friday evening news bulletin along with footage of Lewis handling an imaginary cricket bat with an effeminate gesture.
Lewis apologized in September last year for using a similar anti-gay slur in Las Vegas during his annual Labor Day telethon that raises money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.New York-based media discrimination watchdog Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, or GLAAD, as well as gay rights group Australian Coalition for Equality called for Lewis to apologize again.

Some people get off on being offended.

"These Fags Ought To Give It A Rest"
Real classy, Dan.
I figure since you're about to out of business you'll say anything to drive traffic.
You are a disgrace and should be ashamed of yourself.

Nice bigotry there. What goes around comes around.
Posted by: Todd | Sunday, October 26, 2008 at 09:44 PM
"you'll say anything to drive traffic"
and yet you post a response. you continue to come to be offended.
didn't you read bilby's post-
"Some people get off on being offended."
sounds like he's got you nailed down.

jharp, I personally think Dan was just being "ironic," not intending any real slur. And by the way, if you're the same old queen that used to blow me in the third stall of your office building, then just give it a rest, honey.
Posted by: Andrew Sullivan | Sunday, October 26, 2008 at 09:50 PM
If you don't want Dan to have traffic, or don't like his blog, why do you even come here? There are plenty of sites that cater to you. Why not get back at Dan by not coming to his blog?
As for the word fag...I say fag..fag..fag! Get over it.

let me see if I understand the nature of ridiculing gays...
gays in general are taboo, but gay priests are perfectly suitable material.
not only are they good material, but it is socially acceptable to portray catholic priest in general as gay pedophiles, and the much larger organizatio of the roman catholic church as gay.

I heard they're crying in their beers down in the Village.

What George Bush and I did in teh Lincoln Bedroom is no one's business.
Don't ask, don't tell ladies!!

mark l,
You are an imbecile.
The problem with the gay priests isn't that they were gay it is that they were raping children.
And the catholic church covered it up. And still continues to this day.

I love a good fag after sex. In fact, it might be the best thing about sex.
Posted by: Jake | Sunday, October 26, 2008 at 10:14 PM
I have no doubt there were pedophiles, I have no doubt that there are individuals who still continue to hide it...
would I ascribe the actions of individuals to the whole group?
it is the same philosophical model for racists. The actions of individuals is erroneously acribed to the whole.
Should I infer that all air america hosts are pedophiles, because bernie ward is a pedophile?
can I make fun of bernie ward for being gay, since he is a pedophile?

"If you don't want Dan to have traffic, or don't like his blog, why do you even come here?"
Excuse me? I like his blog and don't really give a dam if he gets a lot of traffic or not.
"There are plenty of sites that cater to you."
Not really. And I am open to suggestions.
"Why not get back at Dan by not coming to his blog?"
Don't really see how it'd be getting even. I like it here. Kind of like driving past a horrible car accident. You're sorry it happened but can't resist looking at the carnage.

"Should I infer that all air america hosts are pedophiles, because bernie ward is a pedophile?"
No. You still don't get it you friggin birdbrain.
The catholic church covered it up and continues to do so today.

Thank you but not what I am looking for. I like the low traffic sites. And I like the sites where the posters aren't very bright.

"And I like the sites where the posters aren't very bright."
Democratic Underground would be your cup of tea. They're dumb as rocks, and mostly think just like you. You would be a perfect fit.

Comments like Lewis' give the public the impression that this sort of attitude is acceptable. If we allow these comments to be acceptable within our society, it reinforces the concept that gay people are somehow lesser than others. ie "only a fag would play cricket", "cricket? what are you, a fag?"
It is easy to react to these comments as trivial and push back with an "oh get over it, it's no big deal". It's harder to challenge these initial reactions and come to the realization that they are wrong.
On the bright side, there are so many other ways to make fun of cricket.

I believe I have finally figured out how the right wing blogs survive.
Along with the popularity of Rush, Fox, and Hannity.
A poll of likely Kentucky voters finds that, “despite heavy national media attention about Obama’s faith, more than half of likely Republican voters — 54 percent — and one of every four Democrats in the state do not know that the Democratic presidential nominee is a Christian.” The poll indicated that “14 percent of likely Kentucky voters — 28 percent of Republicans, 4 percent of Democrats and 11 percent of independents — think Obama adheres to the Muslim faith.

Did anyone see Howard Stern's guy interview Obama supporters in Harlem? That was some funny stuff. They thought Palin was his running mate and they were cool with that. I saw another youtube where one woman said if Obama becomes President she'll be able to get her bananas for 99 cents. Hysterical.

BWAHAHAHAHA, Gays can't get enough of each other so they want a piece of an 80 years old man. Where did the term 'gay' come from in reference to a homosexual? I've never seen a gay, as in happy, one. All of them are full of bull, and complain full time, while continuing to try and be revelent in a society where 99% of the people are laughing at them behind they're back. Gays are like a childs measles shot, people only put up with it because the law has legislated it. Don't let the truth turn you away...

I am gay, and frankly, Jerry Lewis didn't offend me the first time he said this, so he's not going to offend me the second time he says it either.
As with black people, there are a minority of us out here who are perfectly normal folks......and then there is a majority whose entire lives revolve around playing the victim and being offended.

Finally, given what hatemongering gay and lesbian Obama supporters like Andrew Sullivan are posting, the hypocrisy becomes overwhelming.

Who's funnier? Gay Republicans or Black Republicans? Eh, who cares - the whole lot of them will be crying next Wednesday!
Surge on! But for you gay patriots, be sure to where a condom when, um, surging. Thanks.

You, buddy. Especially when you get it from the ones you helped put in office. Oh, the irony! LMAO!

I can understand how you could think like that given that you sequester yourself only with people just like you who are close-minded, ignorant and bigoted. You'd be surprised how different it is in most of the real world.
Fortunately, most of us don't live in the 1950's like you do.

Considering that liberation theology is un-Christian, I'd say that 54% of Kentucky Republicans and 25% of Kentucky Democrats have hit the nail on the head.

Jerry Lewis is still alive.
I thought he died along with his igorant brand of humor a long, long time ago.
