PORTLAND, Ore. - Authorities have arrested two men after a Molotov cocktail was thrown at a 4-foot by 8-foot campaign sign for Republican presidential candidate John McCain in a southeast Portland yard.

Karen Scrutton said she was asleep inside her home at 7956 S.E. 17th Ave. in the Sellwood neighborhood when she saw her sign go up in flames after 1 a.m.

"I screamed upstairs to my husband, 'Jean! Jean!" she said.

A neighbor heard a crash and chased off one of the suspects. Jean Scrutton said his son-in-law found another suspect not far away.

Not long after, investigators picked up Leslie Brockette Leudtke and Kevin Carl Robinson, both 23. After interviewing them, the pair was charged with four counts each of manufacturing and possession of a destructive device. In addition, Leudtke was charged with a single count of reckless burning.

Witnesses said the suspects threw a Molotov cocktail at the sign and used another as a torch.

The Scruttons worried that their home could have caught on fire.

The thuggish way of handling signs in yards is truly getting out of hand. That woman had a nice sign, good for her that she is keeping it up.

As an aside, a friend had BO signs, small ones on the law. She had one up and it disappeared, she put the second one out and it disappeared too. Then her "gardener" advised her that the signs had gotten caught in the lawn mower. He said he was sorry and would replace the signs. But oh, did we all have to listen to the tales about republicans coming in the stealth of night and stealing her signs and preventing her from exercising her constitutional right. If one of my friends wasn't with her when the gardener told her this bet she would still be telling anyone who would listen about the horrible republicans.

Vandals spray-painted the words “Republican means slavery” on the door of the York County GOP campaign headquarters overnight Friday.

Party volunteers called police after discovering the message when they arrived at the office on Rock Hill’s Oakland Avenue. The vandals also stole about 45 candidate signs from the front yard and spray-painted over a banner that carried a picture of Republican presidential nominee John McCain. Their messages included lettering and symbols sometimes used by gangs.

The culprits could face charges on petty larceny and damage to property, said Rock Hill police Sgt. Roderick Stinson. No one appears to have entered the office.

Whether it was teenagers playing a prank or adults looking to make a political statement, the nature of the message reflected racially charged hostilities that have flared around the country in recent days. And for tonight's finale, the Great Obama will uphold America's "moral" obligation to "stop genocide" by abandoning Iraq! While teleported to the region, he will simultaneously convince Iranian leaders to peacefully abandon their nuclear pursuits (even as he does not sit down with them), fix Afghanistan with a strategy that does not resemble the Iraqi surge, and (drumroll!) pull Osama bin Laden out of his hat!

I was at a Sarah Palin event in Philadelphia, at the Park Hyatt Hotel - late
Saturday afternoon (Oct. 11th). If you are easily grossed out by the "C"
word, I am sorry. But as Andrea says below, if McCain supporters wore a
shirt that said "Obama is a ___" or even "Obama is a ____" or "Obama
is a ____" at an Obama Rally, they would either be thrown off the
premises, have their heads kicked in, or even be detained at the local
police station (I know this for a fact: I just had on a McCain button at a
recent Obama event and I didn't think I was going to get out alive).

Sorry the picture is not clearer. But these four young people were right in
front of the hotel. They have on the nicest shirts. There were worse.
There was group as well carrying around a fake dead fetus - exclaiming that
"abortion should have been the path for Bristol(?) Palin". And quite a few
smoke bombs, etc. etc.

I also had some nice words thrown at me.

There were about 500 organized protesters. And about 500 not so organized
at this event. The police and hotel security and secret service were
letting me all the way up to the hotel steps. In a few cased ... a few
protesters got into the lobby.

In my family, the "C" word is about as bad as you can get.

Was this reported on the Philadelphia News. No!. Was anyone outraged?
No!. All that was on the Philadelphia local news last night was: Obama was
at several rallies in Philadelphia earlier in the day (but went home
Saturday night to be with his children). Obama and Palin were in Philly on
the same day. And was there any mention of Palin - No!. In the Sports
section of the local evening news at 11:00PM, they did mention that Palin
was at the Philadelphia Flyers game "dropping the first (hockey) puck". The
guy said it with a smirk. Then he added that Sarah Palin WAS NOT going home to spend the evening with her children.

Sorry the attached picture is not clearer. I need a new camera. Please

You know one of my friends just pointed out to me that she thinks Michelle or as some of our friends affectionately call her "militant michelle" is getting the billy clinton treatment by the campaign. I'm wondering if my friend is right, has anyone seen her making any speeches or at any rallies or anything?

Last Thursday, there was a conference call for everyone who has donated at least $40,000 to Obama. I was on that call, and they gave us a preview of the measures coming in the new administration:

1. Christmas will be banned and turned into a workday like any other one. Ramadan will become the official relgious holiday of the United States.

2. Christian churches will be forbidden to ring their bells. Government grants will be given to mosques so they can broadcast their five daily calls to prayer in every American city and town.

3. Home schooling will be outlawed. Private schools will be strictly licensed, with religious instructed forbidden except for Islam. All children will be required to attend extensive sex education, and be trained from an early age in homosexual practices, which they will be required to DEMONSTRATE to be given a high school diploma!

4. The Pledge of Allegiance will be dropped from schools, and instead all children will be required to sing the "Sing For Change" song.

5. Spanish will be added as the second official language of the United States. It will be taught in schools from kindergarten on, with classes being conducted in both languages and all children required to pass Spanish proficiency tests. All government employees will be required to be bilingual, with affirmative action given to illegal immigrants who pass a test and register as Democrats.

6. A 10% Slavey Reparations Tax will be levied on the incomes of all white workers, and another 10% will be added onto the incomes of any whites making more than $50,000 a year. The proceeds will be given to minorities to help them furnish foreclosed homes that will be given to them with no strings attached.

7. Oil and gas furnaces will be outlawed and all homeowners will be required to install windmills and solar panels.

8. Automobile travel will be rationed to 10 miles a week unless you buy an electric car and use your solar panels to charge it. Minorities will get special subsidies to buy the cars, disbursed from the Slavery Reparations Fund.

9. There will be voter registration drives in all of the prisons, with felons promised leniency if they sign up as Democrats.

10. Fattening foods will be outlawed, and exercise become mandatory, except for the poor, who will get special exemptions.

There are many more policies to be implemented, but I wanted to give you just the highlights here!
