Sarah rocked the house. Actually, I think she took the house and shoved it up the media's snout! heh
I had to look in to see what Andy had to say, him being her most deranged critic. He tried to dress it up, but inside ... he knows Biden lost. I guess he makes Ifill the "loser" because she didn't take Palin down. Actually, she did very well as a moderator, I think. The attention on her over her book probably helped.
9.23 pm. Biden is just dreadful. He speaks in Washingtonese. She just issues the soundbites and wrinkles her eyes and tells stories. And that works. The speed and chirpiness she delivers overwhelms one's ability to even quite absorb what she's saying. And it has put Biden off-stride. It's Biden who seems over-crammed.
10.30 pm. Biden's sobriety and authority and call for fundamental change is both reasonable and solid. It will resonate, I think. As you can read, I began this debate feeling that she was steam-rolling him. She was. But it was a steam-roller coming at you on fumes, not real fuel. She doesn't have it. Maybe one day she might. But not now. Biden's peroration was very, very strong. There is no contest here. There was only one loser: Gewn Ifill. She was intimidated, peripheral, neutered. The rules didn't help. But Ifill put in a dreadful performance.
Yeah, Andy has to spin it. But he knows the score. At least McCain now has a shot at coming back from where things were the last few days. But it's still up to McCain in the end.
Michelle Malkin: Sarah Rocks
Ace is celebrating and has some thoughts of what's coming next from McCain. Pass the rescue bill then hammer Obama on Fannie Mae and Feddie Mac? That makes sense. Remember, it is winning the final news cycles that matters most of all. One month out leaves time to turn things around, or for people to forget given the way information flows today.

On CNN, the panel almost unanimously says that Palin lost.
The same persons say that Obama win the debate vs. McCain because he was able to “holds his ground”.
Palin did more than simply “holds his ground” but the MSM already spin a lost…
Posted by: David Gagnon | Thursday, October 02, 2008 at 11:09 PM
I'd like to say I'm hopeful but the number of times McCain walks away from a needed point or a killer close leaves me doubtful. His inability to call a crook a crook is maddening.
Posted by: Chad | Thursday, October 02, 2008 at 11:13 PM
Hey Joe this was fun lets do it some more!
Say it ain't so Joe!
Now it's McCain's turn to grow some balls and put the smack down on the cut and run Xerxes!
Posted by: SacTownMan | Thursday, October 02, 2008 at 11:18 PM
So Obama has to tie to win, but Sarah Palin ties and it's a loss. They don't call it CommieNewsNetwork for nothing.
Sarah Rocks! She gutted Biden and he didn't know what hit him.
She even got the audience to laugh twice. That's connection.
Posted by: eaglewingz08 | Thursday, October 02, 2008 at 11:20 PM
As I said over at Ace's place: this was the Sarah that I had been looking for the last month. And I am PISSED at McCain for sequestering her. It might cost him the election. Now I have to root for the old Maverick to not look old, feeble and stupid against Obama.

Honestly can't see where you're coming from. And I thought republicans were against dope.
Has the GOP sunk so low that they can't see the difference tween the Yankees and the Mud Hens. You are in serious need of a reality check.
Holy bejesus!
Posted by: jharp | Thursday, October 02, 2008 at 11:27 PM
Oh, and one more thing.
I agree that Palin did not humiliate herself or the GOP like she so recently has.
I guess from that perspective you could call it a win.
Posted by: jharp | Thursday, October 02, 2008 at 11:33 PM
Home Depot Joe was his bloviating self. He talked about "the Middle Class" when there was someone in it right across from him.
I'll agree with you jharp, Biden is a Yankee.

Karl Rove named about 9 instances of Biden being factually wrong and another 3 or 4 that could be argued. The best was Article 1 and Article 2.
Posted by: Lala | Thursday, October 02, 2008 at 11:49 PM
I thought that Gwen Ifil did a professional job. Wonder if she was rewriting her questions up until the very end?
Problem is, Joe Biden liked her, he really liked her. And he respected her. And she like him and she respected him. At times I almost felt as though he wanted to agree with her. Look, Biden has been in Washington for years, he's had an exposure to Wall Street. The Senate he is in now in no way resembles the Senate he came into and he told us all that by talking about Mike Mansfield. He did look tired. He did tear up. (if she had teared up, she would have been criticized for being a crying female) He is in the Senate and he has been dealing with this issue of the bailout bill and I think it has taken its toll on all three of the Senators involved in the race. It can't help but subtly change all of them.
Bottom line, I think the debate was refreshing in the way they treated one another. I'm leaning to giving the win to her but the MSM is already disagreeing with me.

SacTown,
"Hey Harpo a little tired of getting bitch slapped at Patterico's?"
No. I'm having a good time gloating over the demise of the GOP over there though.
Can't post now though. I wonder if I've been banned though. They took down a couple of my posts.
Great fun for me and my wife tonight, though. Biden did a fantastic job of crushing McCain policies tonight while the moose skinner repeated the same failed GOP talking points.
How're those polls looking these days, you jackass?
Posted by: jharp | Friday, October 03, 2008 at 12:00 AM
Palin hit a home run. Er, scored a power play, I mean. (Hockey Mom joke attempt.) Anyway, it was a bravura performance, and a true example of Reagan conservatism in action. Biden couldn't handle it. I hope McCain learned something.
Posted by: Willmoore Kendall | Friday, October 03, 2008 at 12:03 AM
This MSM meme about Biden being an 'expert' on foreign policy is becoming laughable. Biden was flat out wrong on the Afghanistan spending comparison, which he drove into the ground three times; he got hammered for flip flopping on Iraq and his vote on the war resolution; and he was incoherent on Israel. Especially egregious was his vapid tangent about Hizballah, which made no sense at all and sounded like he was making it up as he went along, since the comments had no basis in historical facts. If the Obama campaign thought they were gaining some gravitas on foreign policy with this guy, they were sorely mistaken.

OT: why do they all keep messing with their hair? McCain made a different part for the debate. Obama adopted the pee wee Herman look and died his hair too dark. Biden's hair plugs didn't match tonight. And Sarah did the frosting thing when her regular color was just fine.
I just hate it when you can't recognize the bride on her wedding day. When they mess with their appearance you spend a lot of time looking and not listening.

Wow, Harpo... you must have been in rare (moonbat) form if there's a chance Patterico dropped a banhammer on you.
That aside... Gov. Palin absolutely PWNED Joey hairplugs.
She meted out the double PWNAGE with BBQSAUZ.
And a side order of fries.
As for Ms. Ifill, I was pleasantly surprised - she conducted herself professionally (probably because thirty million sets of eyes and ears were watching and waiting to see if she'd start to toss softballs to Joey and frag grenades to Palin.
And Harpo - one other thing:
"--- The Yankees kicked the sh!t out of the rebels. ---"
I beg to differ. It was about an even match for the first three years, until the Damnyankees could bring their industrial might to bear.
Up until then, the gentlemen-warriors of the great Confederate States of America did quite well. An that's outnumbered some by a margin of 5 yeller-backed bluebellies to every 3 Rebs.
Had a few things went a better way, Gettysburg would be Confederate territory, and we'd be celebrating the birthday of Robert E. Lee every third Monday in January instead of that black preacher from Alabama.

Because we should really care about online polls at sites with an agenda.
I pray a day comes when people quit whining about the media and stop using acronyms like MSM to try and devalue what they do.
Palin was average tonight - and for that, we should be thankful. The Couric interviews were painful, and no amount of complaining can change that, but she at least showed up today.
It won't change anything, but she didn't do any harm - something else to be thankful for. Claims of her "mopping the floor", etc are laughabe to anyone being honest with themselves. Accept reality, then work to change it. As it stands, McCain will lose. Hope for something to happen.

She was very good, no question. Unlike the first pres. debate, it'll probably take a little bit longer for it to sink in that the side of bad ideas and same-old, same-old ... lost. Her Cheneyesque VPOTUS power grab answers alone will sink her even more deeply in the cavernous straits she's already in with regard to readiness to assume office.

"Sarah Rocked: Sullivan - She Steam-rolled Biden"
"Sarah rocked the house. Actually, I think she took the house and shoved it up the media's snout!"
Ruh roh,
Apparently some uncommitted voters viewed it differently.
Post-debate poll of uncommitted voters by CBS:
Forty-six percent of the uncommitted voters surveyed say Democrat Joe Biden won the debate, compared to 21 percent for Republican Sarah Palin. Thirty-three percent said it was a tie.
What a great day for America! GOP policies coming home to roost and they are toast! Dam. I've waited a long time for this.

You know what I’d love to see in one of these debates? The moderator asking the debaters to take the opposite ideological stance on a particular issue, say how to structure tax cuts. The idea being that a good policy-maker will know the strengths of the opposition argument.
Posted by: D. Aristophanes | Friday, October 03, 2008 at 01:04 AM
Sac,
It's amusing how he thinks this is his blog. He's losing his patience, he says. I think he's losing more than that.
Posted by: Lala | Friday, October 03, 2008 at 01:04 AM
Did everyone here just watch the first 20 minutes of the debate and then turn it off? Or is everyone living in an alternate universe? Palin started strong and then faded away. Biden started slow and then ended strong.
Palin didn't embarrass herself but certainly didn't say anything of value. The argument that Palin is middle class is laughable when you realize her assets top over $1 million. To say that the "MSM" polls are skewed but then to cite the Drudge Report polls as fact is ridiculous.
The fact is the GOP is screwed. McCain is pulling out of Michigan and the battleground states are all states that Bush won in 2004. Seems to me that the Republicans are on defense. A Palin win (which tonight certainly wasn't) wasn't going to turn things around either.
Posted by: mj | Friday, October 03, 2008 at 01:04 AM
jharp,
"...GOP policies coming home to roost..."
Cute, but it's not a smart idea to use the same saying famously used by a certain racist Chicago preacher who happened to be the spiritual advisor to a certain Chicago "community organizer" for 20 years.
Now go find some rough trade on the docks, and kindly leave the rest of us alone.

From Lala:
"He probably puts it in wordpad and goes from blog to blog pasting the same thing under different names.
Or, he picks up what others say and takes them as his own."
Yes. I probably do. Crazy idea, really, seeing how different people at different blogs respond to ideas or statements. Certainly worth your time to recognize it.
My point having been that McCain/Palin supporters shouldn't rest on our laurels getting excited because a few conservative writers proclaim Palin the winner.
Even if she was, it doesn't matter because people aren't voting based on VP, and I would argue that the only thing a VP can really do is bring a ticket down in the long run...I'm pretty sure history would bare that out, as well.
And, more importantly, she really wasn't the winner. In the eyes of most Americans, she either tied or lost (if you believe the snap polls or the views of center, center-left, and some right-of-center pundits and commenters). What she did was stop being a drag on the ticket by appearing at least competent. (Lest we forget, the job of President and VP has higher expectations than "competent".)
That's the whole problem with us setting our expectations so low. If we're pleasantly surprised, we assume the feeling is universal.
So, if you're on my side and want McCain to win, you won't sit around celebrating the false hope that tonight mattered, but instead work to bring about an actual victory.

I'm with MattBrian, though on the opposite side. My prediction is that tonight's debate winds up giving McCain-Palin a small bump - undecideds aside, Palin's performance will invigorate the base - that maybe carries but is likely overridden by Dem-favorable circumstances. Leading to a 300+ electoral win for Obama-Biden.
