It's time for some smart entrepeneur to print up a bunch of "I AM Joe the Plumber" T-shirts, hats, bags, lunchboxes, ... you name it, put them up for sale on the internet and commit to donating a sizeable portion of the profits to Joe and his family. Just imagine the smoke blowing out of the Obamabots ears whenever they turn around on the streets of America only to be confronted with the symbol of The Stuttering Stooge's epic failure.

Maybe it'll work like Dingy Harry Reid's slander of Limbaugh. Limbaugh made a fool of dingy and charity got millions of dollars. Joe the Plumer deserved millions of dollars for bringing the Marxist POS into the light.

Joe the Plumber, is a sideshow.
Why? Because Joe the Plumber would probably get a tax cut under the Obama tax plan, depending on how he structures his business.
You may now continue to live in your altenate reality where every poll is today's Gallup poll(circa 2004 stats) and Crashy McGee isn't getting his ass handed to him.

The harassment of Joe the plumber is the singular biggest mistake of the Obama campaign. The MSM is making Joe a martyr. Heck, DKos just published Joe's home address. Obama is now not only a Marxist but a Marxist bully - just another Chicago thug. America roots for the underdog and they will not take this action kindly. If Joe were a hero yesterday, wait a few days.
Obi Wan's line in Star Wars when fighting Darth Vader comes to mind - "Strike me down and I will return more powerful than you can possibly imagine." Americans will realize what happened to Joe could easily happen to them. And they will remember this come November.
Well, we'll know soon enough. And reader Donald Gately emails: "Joe the Plumber is the new Linda Tripp, apparently. What I find really fascinating is the fact that the media elites are treating Joe the Plumber as if he is the one who is out of step with mainstream America, while Bill Ayers is an 'Eagle Scout' (as per Tom Frank)." I'd missed the Tom Frank bit, but I take the point.

even using the broad definition of small business that McCain likes, very few owners would see their own taxes rise.
That's because the lion's share of taxable income comes from a small number of wealthy businesses. Out of 34.7 million filers with business income on Schedules C, E or F, 479,000 filers fall into the top two brackets, according to an analysis of projected 2009 filings by the nonpartisan Tax Policy Center.
The other 34.3 million - or 98.6% - would be unaffected by Obama's proposed rate hike.
That includes Joe "The Plumber" Wurzelbacher, whom McCain invoked nearly two dozen times at the debate Wednesday night to illustrate the plight of the average worker and small business owner.

Joe isn't really the issue. It's that Obama slipped up and let the mask come off when he said he intends to "spread the wealth."
Joe the Plumber could have really been John McCain wearing a mask - it doesn't matter - nobody made Obama use that phrase.
These attacks on the guy who asked the question are a combination of trying to change the subject and also blind rage and striking out at him.

I have a story for you patriots. One day last week, upon my return from work, Mrs Bob announced that one of the sinks in the master bath was leaking. I proceeded to get my toolkit and fix said sink. I forgot to put the putty the first time so it took longer than it should have - but whatever.
Yes, patriots, I am as much of a plumber as Joe the Plumber. We're both just guys who love the trooops and own wrenches. We're not licensed. We don't make $250K as plumber-types.
End of story.

"The harassment of Joe the plumber is the singular biggest mistake of the Obama campaign. The MSM is making Joe a martyr. Heck, DKos just published Joe's home address."
Oct. 16 (Bloomberg) -- ``Joe the plumber,'' the Toledo, Ohio, man whose complaints about Barack Obama's tax plan were featured in the final presidential debate, owes the state of Ohio almost $1,200 in back income taxes.
According to records on file with the Lucas County Court of Common Pleas, the state filed a tax lien against Samuel J. Wurzelbacher for $1,182.98 on Jan. 26, 2007, that is still active.
Joe the plumber's address is public record you jackass. People who don't pay their taxes get liens recorded against them at the county courthouse.

"Joe the Plumber, is a sideshow."
absolutely...but the 'one' couldn't resit taking a bite of the apple.
it entertains a discussion about an average american, who also is a republican...
in going after the guy, the story sustains itself for at least 24 more hours. obama shouldn't have allowed to become part of the election by using his name in a debate, let alone bring him up again, but now that the msm, lefty blogs, and team obama have 'joe's scent', they are going after him.
why? the dems have built themselves as a shredding machine...they had done an excellent job on mccain, 'pulitzer' level work on palin and now they turn their sights on joe average.
If I were a concerned democrat, I would be guarding this guy...one psychotic obama supporter, given his address, and incited to anger would do more damage to obama than any other mistep that the media could cover for him.
let this one go, quickly.

Bo is sometimes extremely disrespectful. Like, when he brought up Rudy's cross dressing skit on SNL. It wasn't necessary. But, since the camera didn't show Rudy for reaction, he might not have been there which makes me concerned for the man since he is generally a fixture at that dinner.

Maybe it is me but it is difficult to include BO in the class with Hillary, Chuck, Rudy, John, Joe, Mike, Rudy, Mitt, Mike H. These are people we have all seen earn their stripes. We've seen them all work hard. We've seen them really accomplish some amazing things and some things maybe we wish they hadn't been around for like votes against reigning Fannie and Freddie. But, I guess what bother me in the end is that BO hasn't earned his stripes yet. Hasn't proven to me that he gets it. I keep going to the senate page with his votes, trying to figure out what exactly he has been doing, what things are close to his heart, what he really is feeling thinking and believing and I keep coming away bereft. It makes me concerned.

I will have you know that Im mad as hell as I had to write a friggin check for nearly 20 grand yesterday for the balance of my 07 taxes and this was in addition to the 50 grand I had already paid in ES payments. this media stuff is over the top.
if there are undecideds, they aren't going to be swayed by a 'fraud'. If they see the msm go after him, it would be another story. getting the remaining voters is a question of who can jingle their shiny keys louder than the other-joe is a dead end for the dems-he brings no new votes and helps mcain keep his single connection to the genral public.

harpo you are the idiot. Let me speak slowly for you. If Joe the Plumber got a loan to buy the business, he could borrow an extra thousand bucks and pay the friggin tax lien filed on his real estate(tax liens are filed in the property registars office and are liens against all real property owned by the debtor at the time in that particular county).
Are we clear harpy?

"Harpo marxist: It was a frickin thousand bucks!"
Good one. I'll use that next time I owe only $1,000. A quick question. How much does it have to be to require payment?
"I will have you know that Im mad as hell as I had to write a friggin check for nearly 20 grand yesterday for the balance of my 07 taxes and this was in addition to the 50 grand I had already paid in ES payments."
Sounds like you had a pretty decent year. Good for you.
A suggestion. Pay on time. If you are paying 07 taxes on Oct 15 you obviously are paying a penalty and interest.
___________________________________________________________________________
A Lien
The state of Ohio places a lien on real property after several steps to try to collect a tax debt, according to John Kohlstrand, a spokesman for the Ohio Department of Taxation who said he couldn't discuss any specific case.
If a delinquency notice goes unheeded, the Department of Taxation issues a billing notice, Kohlstrand said. If that is ignored, a more formal assessment notice is sent. Failing to appeal an assessment or losing an appeal puts the debt into the hands of the state attorney general for collection. The attorney general typically sends a collection notice and simultaneously files a lien.
``The taxpayers may not necessarily know about the lien,'' Kohlstrand said, although they would receive other notices.
In Wurzelbacher's case, the lien indicated that the notice was sent to a previous address in Toledo.
Under Obama's proposal, Wurzelbacher would face about $900 more in taxes if he netted $280,000 of income from his new business, said Gerald Prante, a senior economist at the Tax Foundation, a Washington research group that is examining both candidates' plans.

You are the idiot and obviously know nothing about business.
If Joe won the lottery he could pay the lien too. And how in the fuck do you know his home would be used as collateral to buy the business. Lot's of folks borrow money without mortgaging their homes.
The fact is that Joe's claim that he was planning to but a plumbing business was a gross exaggeration. The guy can't even pay his taxes.
Though maybe with Obama's lowering his taxes he might be able to in the future.
Joe is a textbook example of living poor and voting rich. Typical GOPer.
Posted by: jharp | Thursday, October 16, 2008 at 11:06 PM
Not really, most americans use their homes as collateral for business loans. He would roll the lien in the business loan to have the lien satisfied. I guess you don't know how to play todays economic game.
Posted by: mary | Thursday, October 16, 2008 at 11:06 PM
At the Alfred E. Smith dinner and at last night's debate it seems that the BO campaign carefully listened to everything said on O'Reilly and employed it and McCain did not.
Wonder what is going on?

"Not really, most americans use their homes as collateral for business loans. He would roll the lien in the business loan to have the lien satisfied."
Most? Maybe. A lot don't. Myself being one of them. And deadbeats who don't pay their taxes are unlikely to get a loan.
Would you loan money to a deadbeat who couldn't even pay his income taxes?
"I guess you don't know how to play todays economic game."
I have been in business for myself for 25 years. Never have had a tax lien nor did I ever mortgage my home for a business loan.
And have done pretty well.

Obama will be your president. It is as certain as the rising of the sun, or the pooping of my many feathered servants upon your parked Porsches.
You may rise up on the morning of November 4th, knowing with absolute certainty that Obama shall be the lord of this land that selfsame day.

defender's of the new 250k tax bracket...
can you explain why Joe, who may someday reach his promised land of 250k, is going to be paying the same rate of taxes as George Clooney or Paris Hilton?
is it really a progressive system that stops raising taxrates at 250k?
40% is the rate of federal taxes on multi-million dollar lottery payouts...
you would tax income on person who had worked to get where they are at the same rate you would a guy who plunks a dollar down on powerball?
one other small point that you might also be able to explain...
the time period 2003-2007, afer bush tax cuts.
http://www.whitehouse.gov/omb/budget/fy2009/pdf/hist.pdf
p.26-
federal tax revenue 2003-1.783 trillion
federal tax revenue 2007-2.568 trillion.
http://www.indexmundi.com/g/g.aspx?c=us&v=65
us gdp 2003-10.4 trillion.
us gdp 2007-13.2 trillion.
can you explain how, in the face of a tax cut, that govt revenue grew by 44%, while our gdp over the same time period grew by only 27%?
i hate millionaires, actors, actresses, fannie mae execs...etc...but increasing tax will diminish gdp, period.

"No matter what the tax rates have been, in postwar America tax revenues have remained at about 19.5% of GDP."
the graph is a stunner...
one of the conclusions?
"The data show that the tax yield has been independent of marginal tax rates over this period, but tax revenue is directly proportional to GDP. So if we want to increase tax revenue, we need to increase GDP."
"What happens if we instead raise tax rates? Economists of all persuasions accept that a tax rate hike will reduce GDP, in which case Hauser's Law says it will also lower tax revenue. That's a highly inconvenient truth for redistributive tax policy, and it flies in the face of deeply felt beliefs about social justice."
