Bingaman defected from Hillary to support Obama. He's the guy talking about a new Fairness Doctrine yesterday - audio below from the Jim Villanucci show on KKOB.
Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama has gained the Senate majority with the defection and endorsement of a former Hillary Clinton supporter, Senator Jeff Bingaman.

I couldn't agree more
Mark Levin on the "Fairness Doctrine"
excerpt
Therefore, to be fair, Congress should place into the ‘Fairness Doctrine’ that the right-halves of every newspaper in the country be preserved for and controlled by conservatives, and overseen only by conservative boards. The same fairness should apply to the news programming of all television stations. Of course, Senator Bingaman said none of that because he does not intend to control the free speech of the like-minded.

They'll be coming for the internet next.
Rumblings about nationalizing broadband, and internet 2.0
I wonder why?

The libs idea of "net neutrality" = Red Chinese style control over the internet.
And the moratorium on email taxes (likely at the ISP level) might be allowed to expire under a Lib regime as well.

I'll bet he thinks the mainstream tv networks don't need to be balanced since they spew libtard crap and he thinks that is just fine. Welcome to the United Socialist States of America, USSA.

"Discussion was at a higher level and more intelligent in those days than it has become since..."
Translation: it was all liberals back then, not those incredibly stupid conservatives.
I'd love to debate this ignorant putz in public, and hear him try to defend "more intelligent" as anything other than the partisan claptrap that it is.

Anyone getting a sense that the term "free market" and the term "capitalism" is NOT on the left's radar screen. If the market wanted the "fairness" doctrine, it would demand it. If leftists were popular, there'd be a burgeoning left-talk radio business. Did they ever think that conservative radio is doing well has to do with the fact that radio is the only place conservatives can go to hear a conservative voice speak an intelligent argument without being shouted down by a liberal?
He thinks the quality of the dialog will improve if every show is Hannity & Colmes? It'll be a shout-fest.
Forget the quality of the argument, I'm all for successful left-talk radio. If they can make it in the market, good for them. If they can't, don't punish the conservatives that can.

Now let's see- he's worried about the intelligence of the media?
Seriously?

This is insane! The maybe the government should force me to read Farhenheit 9/11 after I've read the 9/11 Commission Report! The Fairness Doctrine provides nothing but censorship. Libs continue to boldly lie to the American people that this is about "fairness" when they know good and well that radio listeners will turn off their radios because they do not care to listen to the other point of view. It is censorship! This is another step towards repealing the 1st ammendment!

Would the Last Honest Reporter Please Turn On the Lights?
By Orson Scott Card
Editor's note: Orson Scott Card is a Democrat and a newspaper columnist, and in this opinion piece he takes on both while lamenting the current state of journalism.
An open letter to the local daily paper — almost every local daily paper in America:
I remember reading All the President's Men and thinking: That's journalism. You do what it takes to get the truth and you lay it before the public, because the public has a right to know.

Folks, it isn't about making shows "hannity and Colms." It's about making conservative talk unprofitable because of the time they would have to give to lib-speak no one wants to hear. Radio stations will not "balance" shows, they will 86 them and go back to music formats, or sports, or whatever.

I think it is time to have a civil war against these communists'. Why do people try to reason with ones who you cannot reason with. McCarthy was right. You can't negotiate with Stalinist's. They are COMMUNISTS!! You have to destroy them. Kill Them. Eliminate the rouge power hungry pond scum, they are. We only need a few of these small time thugs, to spew their poison, to remember who they are, so they will not get in to power again!! They have infiltrated our media, our schools and universities, and are prevalent in try to takeover OUR REPUBLIC!!! I think it is time for a civil war!!! It wouldn't take long. They are all cowards, hiding behind people that do the fighting for them. When push comes to shove, they will give up, because they are cowards to the core!! I give it three days!
We need to completely destroy the media, by not buying their dribble. That is the first part, then destroy the so called journalists, who partake in fixing news to make it benefit a known power! THIS IS TREASON!!!! The Democrats have made thousands and thousands of treasonous actions, and we get chided saying that that is their right for freedom of speech. BULL-COCKY!!!!!!! IT IS A VIOLATION OF THE constitution to report the way they do!
CHARGE THEM WITH TREASON, Try, them, and HANG the bastards! You are ALL cowards not to do this!
I AM A PISSED American! I have served my country. I will not go down without one huge fight!

Even if the (Un)Fairness Doctrine is reimposed, it simply won't work in the same way since there are now other outlets to get out the conservative message. Satellite radio anyone? All the Demo-idiots would do is effectively destroy AM radio--many stations will likely go under--while concurrently sending XM and Sirius radio subscription numbers through the roof. Hell, how about off-shore "pirate" radio stations? Short-wave? &c. &c. &c.
The dilemma for the Donks if (May God Forbid) they reimpose the FD is they'd be eventually forced to pass even more punitive and wider-encompassing legislation to keep conservative talkers off the air. The end result is that, at long last, they'll finally expose themselves as the authoritarian frauds we've always known them to be. It'll be like "whack-a-mole." Conservative talkers will keep popping up, guerilla style, fire off a verbal RPG, and then blend back into the population.
However, happily, I suspect reimposition of the FD will not occur because the few remaining lucid Donks realize it would galvanize the Right like nothing else and most certainly result in "The Mother of All Million Man Marches" on Washington in defense of the First Amendment. Indeed, if Obama oozes into the WH next January, look for Rush, Hannity, Hewitt, et. al. to DOUBLE-DARE His Majesty to take his best shot. Pelosi-Reid-Obama matched up against conservative talkers who communicate for a living and are the best at what they do? Puh-leeze cracka, we know who'll win hands-down.

if obama is sworn into office, how long will it take before we feel the boot of the national socialists!!? i smell the books being burned already!! this will be the death of freedom of speech and all of our rights if we don't stop them!!!

If we can have liberals complaining about Conservative radio and wanting it to be "balanced" (actually taken down,) what's to stop Mr. Jones, who likes to listen to Jazz music, from petitioning the FCC for equal time on the local Top40 radio station. It's fair - the fairness doctrine, right?
Not.
If liberals want fairness, they should (without the need for a Fairness doctrine law) get some commercial backing and listenership for their own programs on other radio or TV stations. The real problem for the liberals is that they DO NOT have audiences for their liberal rants.
And, why aren't the TV and Cable news channels not fighting this more openly and aggressively? Can you image the FCC saying that each MSNBC and CNN liberal rant needs to be immediately followed by a Conservative equal-time report. Could it be that if people find out about Obama's real plans they'll vote for McCain?
Let's elect John McCain and keep radio and TV as they are today. Win one more for the Gipper.
And, God bless America.

Look at the bright side now conservatives can go on BET MTV NBC NPR TeleMundo and thousands of other radio and t.v. stations and express their views. Its a lose lose situation for the libs they just don't get it. consrv argument always wins because their argument is 100 percent common sense and with good reasoning.

The fairness doctrine is a term for the democratic movment to try to control the voice of its opposition. Why is it that there is a group of people that wants to control the liberty of the other group? The answer is that the Democrats in power now are nothing with out somebody needing them. The truth of the matter is that nobody does. The problem is that not everybody knows that yet. Teach your children not to sit back and just go with the herd. Teach them to watch for the wolves in sheeps clothing, turn on the TV and hear them promise you the world.

I can't believe this liberal clown said that political discussion was "more intelligent" before conservative talk radio was introduced. Get to used to it, buddy!. It seems like there are more people listening to conservative talk radio that your liberal babble! Why would you think that is?

Does this mean that Senator Jeff Bingaman wants to start giving equal time to the right on CBS, ABC, NBC, MSNBC and CNN, or is it just conservative talk radio that he's so concerned with....duh. Face it, Senator Jeff Bingaman stands opposed to our constitutional right to free speech and a free press. We could do with out his type of un-Americanism in Congress
