Update: Well, due to the extreme criticism from the "Laura killed her high school sweetheart, Cheney shot his friend, Bushitler" Left - I felt I should update and bump this post. I'm sorry if my sarcasm regarding the pillow reference came across as too unkind. I am certain Obama is a kind man. Consequently, I don't actually believe he would "smother" his Grandma with a pillow.
I imagine his compassion would compel him to use a plastic bag. But as that is so environmentally unsound, I didn't want to even suggest it in case it might damage his reputation among the faithful, so many of them being Green and all.
We now return you to our regularly scheduled post.
You just knew it was coming. Obama is so determined to see Grandma - he just had to also sit down for an interview about it first. This is kind of funny for a couple reasons, though. So deeply is he worried ... he even managed to work it into an attack on McCain. What a noble guy, this Obama.
"One of the things I want to make sure of is that I had a chance to sit down with her and talk to her," Obama told Roberts. "She's still alert and she's still got all her faculties. And I want to make sure that I don't miss that opportunity right now."
"And then we're going to find out what chores I can do, because I'm sure there's been some stuff that's been left undone," he said.
Obama was in Hawaii for a full week - on vacation just in August. Did he do some "chores" for Grandma? Did they sit down and "talk."
Yeah, for all of one hour out of an entire week based on reports. And he didn't even take the wife and kids. But, you know, everytime he or Biden open their mouths they get in trouble, so maybe it's best to just lie low for a while and bolster Obama's image with people who might be having trouble signing on to his con? Pathetic. I'm not doubting she is ill. But believe me, if you think this guy would leave the campaign trail for an hour if he felt he were running from behind, he wouldn't do it. Not unless he thought it helped him to do so.
Obama -- escorted by Secret Service and accompanied by a few campaign staff and a pool of reporters and camera crews -- arrived at about 4:10 p.m. yesterday and spent an hour with his 85-year-old maternal grandmother, Madelyn Dunham, who helped raise him. He was not accompanied by his wife, Michelle, and two daughters.
Yeah, no time for politics now - back to today's interview:
He also dismissed McCain's latest attack that Obama "will say anything to get elected." McCain was referring to Obama's alleged shift in his plan for who would be eligible for tax cuts.
"I think it's fair to say that if you look at the quality of our campaign and theirs," he said, "who's been more civil, who's talked about the issues, as opposed to trying to attack peoples' character, I think we get a pretty good grade."
Grandma, at least, would approve.
Man. I hope his numbers don't start to drop. He might have to hold a pillow against her face and maybe later break into tears the way Hillary did. Only I suspect hers were genuine.

LMAO

Hoping Obama's grandma votes for MCCAIN!
p.s. She KNOWS her grandson was born in Kenya, and therefore unqualified to run for the US Presidency.

Wonder how long he would stay without any press coverage?
Kinda like when he went on his European jaunt, and didnt visit the hospitals cause the cameras werent going to go with him.............what a narcissistic charlatan Obama is.

PolitiKos blog resorts to scandal news tactic, make outlandish claims in the headline and present bland material in the actual article. Politkos,s headline is Blame Game[should be Lame Game], GOP Forms Circular Firing Squad. Here is a sample:
"A New York Times Magazine piece on Sunday chronicling McCain’s campaign featured numerous not-for-attribution McCain staffers participating in what amounted to a campaign autopsy. One aide told writer Robert Draper, “For better or worse, our campaign has been fought from tactic to tactic,” and one criticized McCain’s debate performance.
Longtime McCain alter ego Mark Salter gave an interview to Atlantic writer Jeffrey Goldberg criticizing everything from the news media to the vagaries of fate: “Iraq was supposed to be the issue of the campaign. We assumed it was our biggest challenge. Funny how things work.”"

I have no reason to doubt granny is sick. I hope she has a full recovery.
I also have no reason to believe that Obama is taking a break from his campaign.
He IS campaigning.

Seems like the Georgians support a guy who takes a time out to visit his Grandma.
For the first time ever, a new poll has Barack Obama ahead of John McCain in Georgia, on the heels of a recent trend that showed the race tightening here.
The new numbers from InsiderAdvantage: Obama 48%, McCain 47%, within the ±3.8% margin of error.
I have never in my life witnessed such an epic collapse of a campaign or a party.
Finally, America is waking up.

"For the first time ever, a new poll has Barack Obama ahead of John McCain in Georgia..."
getting desperate?
your sentence starts with "For the first time ever" which means you acknowledge that it is a singular occurrence, and yet you proceed to make a prediction from it.
how bout those 2004 exit polls?
by your logic, the argument that the ap and ibd polls which have the race within 1-2 pts, with heavy undecideds, should also be even more probable.

Harpo, didn't you see the margin of error number? What's the matter with you?
Posted by: Fred Beloit | Friday, October 24, 2008 at 12:36 PM
obama must be pretty sure granny ISN'T going to die, if he is willing to delay resolving a matter he presents as a matter of life and death.
god forbid the guy should have to decide whether we should retaliate aginst an attack...
he would spend 6 months telling us that he would decide, but never get around to it.
there's a phrase, popular in georgia, 'get r done'. obama should follow this sage wisdom.
Posted by: mark l. | Friday, October 24, 2008 at 12:38 PM
I like the part where he says she's "finally getting some recognition at the end of her life"...
She certainly got some recognition during the primaries when Obama threw her under the bus, said she was a racist, then clarified the next day by saying that she is just a "typical white person"...
If she's been ill for a while, why didn't he spend more than an hour with her during the WEEK he spent in Hawaii for vacation? And, if he's so upset about her current situation, why would he wait for four days before leaving to visit and only spend one day there?
He certainly didn't seem too concerned during that interview, and he seemed even less so when he was dancing on Ellen's show.
This guy is the sleaziest politician to climb out of the Chicago machine, and that is saying a lot.

I can understand the anger - really. Looks like the GOP is throwing in the towel on the old man and his brilliant sidekick.

I guess 12 years of George Bush is too much of a "catastrophic success" for America to handle.

Guess it really pisses off conservatives when they come in second in the Family First! race.
Ya suppose if she died while he was campaigning, Dan would attack him - as he did over the death of his mother - for not taking the time to see her before her death.
And if you actually listened to the interview, you'd know most of it was about other issues, not his grandmother.

No. By my logic one poll has Obama leading in Georgia. Albeit within the margin of error.

Yes. And I posted it so as to not mislead.

has her illness been given an actual diagnosis?
or is barry just playing doctor? given the wealth of support he has, you'd think she get the best medical care.

I can't believe that Obama would take time away from campaigning to go visit his grandma in a foreign country. This is clearly a desperate plea for the votes of old people whose grandkids never visit. If he really loved his grandma, he would completely ignore her so that people wouldn't think he was using her to score political points. I bet he wasn't wearing his flag pin when he went to her bedside.
Posted by: clb72 | Friday, October 24, 2008 at 01:06 PM
It's funny how the press could find Todd Palin's dui from 20 years ago, andrew sullivan could demand a paternity test on trey, but the obama campaign refuse to disclose the nature of her illness...
if it was syphillis, I'd understand...
but what is the big deal?
the only reason for lack of disclosure is the cleverness of telling a lie is to give as little detail as possible.
Should I assume that obama is visitng his grandmother for the last time?
If this is his assumption, then the matter is so dire that he waits to go see her, until he can fit it into his schedule.
Posted by: mark l. | Friday, October 24, 2008 at 01:10 PM
Harpo, Harpo, Harpo, Didn't you say this? "For the first time ever, a new poll has Barack Obama ahead of John McCain in Georgia..."
If the results are within the margin of error, this poll says no such thing. It says, using your percent numbers, McCain is favored by from 50.8 to 43.2. Obama is favored by from 51.8 to 44.2. In other words Obama could be ahead by 51.5 to McCain's 43.3 OR McCain could be ahead by 50.5 to Obama's 44.7. Etc, etc.
What it says in short is that they are about even.
The new numbers from InsiderAdvantage: Obama 48%, McCain 47%, within the ±3.8% margin of error.
Posted by: Fred Beloit | Friday, October 24, 2008 at 01:13 PM
It wasn't exactly a foreign country, but you make a valid, original point about the votes of old people.
Posted by: Jake | Friday, October 24, 2008 at 01:15 PM
If he cared for the Racist 'typical white woman' he would have visited her days ago, not make a planned political event out of the visit. Where is the wife and children, do they hate grandma, the racist typical white woman? How did Hussein get to Hawaii? Is the campaign plane being used for personal business and paid by the people? Big deal about Palin's clothes until it turns out they are not her clothes, were on loan and will be returned, auctioned off or given the charity. Ooop's democrats eating their daily meal from the floor of the barn again. Better eat up folks, you won't do so good under the coming Hussein Marxist government.

Fred,
I know what within the margin of error means. And the fact is that Georgia is close.
Think about that. Georgia!
McCain is toast. And Palin will soon be back in Alaska out of the national scene for good. And America will be better off for it.

The best part about obama? when he loses this time, the dems will delude themselves into believing he will win next time. Imagine nominating a four/five time loser. Insanity. Let's be honest, the dems gave 8 time loser shrum another chance in 04.

Oh, Fred. You're just shooting blanks at this point, sweetie. I am certainly not a fan of Dan in any way. You need to research the definition of sockpuppet. "Humor" has nothing to do with it. I'm really tired of that defense, by the way. And it isn't hard to guess that, as a liberal, I would drop by the two most popular liberal sites in existence. How you can say so much and add nothing to the conversation is, well, Palinesque.

"Sock puppetry redirects" redirects here. For information on sock puppets in Wikipedia, see Wikipedia:Sock puppetry.
"Sockpuppeteering" redirects here. For puppets made from socks, see Sock puppet.
A sockpuppet is an online identity used for purposes of deception within an Internet community. In its earliest usage, a sockpuppet was a false identity through which a member of an Internet community speaks while pretending not to, like a puppeteer manipulating a hand puppet.[1]
In current usage, the perception of the term has been extended beyond second identities of people who already post in a forum to include other uses of misleading online identities. For example, a NY Times article claims that "sock-puppeting" is defined as "the act of creating a fake online identity to praise, defend or create the illusion of support for one’s self, allies or company."[2]
The key difference between a sockpuppet and a regular pseudonym (sometimes termed an "alt" which is short for alternate, as in alternate identity) is the pretense that the puppet is a third party who is not affiliated with the puppeteer.
The first known usage of the term was on July 9, 1993 by Merciful Lee Dickens in a posting to bit.listserv.fnord-l, but the term was not in common usage in USENET groups until 1996."
BTW, precious, you called me sweetie. Did you learn that from Obie, Cruel Moe?
Posted by: Fred Beloit | Friday, October 24, 2008 at 03:03 PM
Dan, I don't know whether your pathetic or sick. What the hell is wrong with you to suggest that Obama would murder his grandmother. Where is the humor in that? Am I missing something?
I can disagree with people about their political beliefs, but at the end of the day I can shake their hand and still respect them. I still view them as fellow humans who deserve to be treated with respect decency. The problem with you (and others on this site) is that fact that you view liberals as sub-human. Not only to do disagree with their political beliefs but you hate them as humans. This manifests itself when you make sick jokes about death.
The conservatives hatred of liberals is like the Germans hatred of Jews during WWII. They blamed them for all their problems and viewed them as sub-human, not worthy to live.
Dan you need to come back to reality and stop making sick comments.

trust me, this is disney compared to kos/atrios.
"So, try this one out: Say he kept campaigning, and she died, what then?"
that is the point. he has stated he needed to urgently go see her-
not wait until the election was over, and yet he has delayed for 4 days...
so she might be gone in two weeks, but she'll definitely make it 4 days...
what illness provides such a window of certainty?

My Darling Fred:
Your ability to cut and paste is without peer. I'm going to make a leap of faith and assume you read it. Now all you have to do is link that up to me somehow.
"... under the mask of a sock puppet, of course ..."
You won't. You can't. But that's not the point is it? The fact is you, and others like you, lack intellectual honesty. It allows you to make claims you know to be false - about Liberals, Obama, me - without having to worry about backing them up with facts or logic. As in this case, you claim I am a sockpuppet and, when challenged, change the subject to the definition of the word instead of evidence to support your claim*. It allows you to believe Obama is both a Muslim and an America hating Black Christian. "It's like they're proud of being ignorant."
That you are a sex addict and a pornographer is of little consequence.
*If you argue that I asked you to define it, you are even dumber than I thought.

And we see pretty much why Obama did this, which is to put all of his bots to work attacking people.
Funny how these same bots were previously savaging and namecalling Sarah Palin's family, insisting that she lied about her pregnancy with Trig, etc.
Funny how Obama's grandma was supposedly at death's door and about to go any second.....but a man with a private jet who could be there in four hours instead waited four days and about forty press appearances before flying to see her, sans daughters or wife.
And finally, given how Obama supports, endorses, and gives millions of dollars to people like Bill Ayers who planned to execute 25 million Americans to bring about their communist utopia, I would say that Obama and his supporters here.....are demanding the compassion that they refuse to give to anyone else.
Posted by: North Dallas Thirty | Friday, October 24, 2008 at 05:39 PM
And it also has to do with the fact that Obama's goons have finally been caught committing blatant campaign finance fraud, as Dan points out above.
The gangster and thug Obama thinks that, if he just sticks Grandma in front of the cameras and pretends to be nice, people won't notice that he's systematically breaking Federal law in accepting and encouraging illegal campaign contributions.
