He attributes it more to ideology, than race. Interesting in that I've heard reliable anecdotal evidence such as this from deep blue New Jersey, as well. Someone I know there in a service business who encounters a good number of Democrats has been hearing similar things for months. Win or lose on November 4, for now, Obama has not closed the deal.
Something very unusual is taking place.
From Seattle to San Diego, from Burlington, Vermont to New York City, from New Orleans to Texas and Midwest towns like Cleveland, I am hearing hushed admissions of a terrible sin: “Father, I’m not going to vote for Obama.”
Then I look at the polls. Nationally and in battleground States, Senator Obama is thrashing Senator McCain.
So what gives?
Eight years ago in 2000 and four years ago in 2004 my parents’ Ohio neighborhood was filled with political yard signs. For every two “Gore” or “Kerry” signs there were at least two “Bush” signs. And there were many, many signs, I assure you. Not so today. When I asked local McCain workers in Summit County the reason, they answered quickly: we go to the doors, people wink at us in approval, and then refuse to allow us to place a sign in their yard. A significant number of voters may prefer McCain, but don’t want to show their disapproval of Obama.

I know a guy who talked to a guy who heard from a guy who read it on Fox.

It's the double super secret Silent Majority. They don't exist in polls or surveys or in public or on TV or radio. They don't stand up and get counted. But they've secretly loved the last 8 years, think GWB is the best President EVAR!, totally support the Iraq War, love banking deregulation, hate the bail out, don't want universal health care coverage, plan to make over a quarter million dollars in the middle of a recession, and live right next door.
And its the best kept secret in American politics. So secret, only a catholic priest blogging on a FOX News web forum from his hidden pulpit in Cleveland Ohio knows about it. Screw demographics. Screw research studies. Screw campaign contribution. Screw party affiliations. McCain wins this thing in a landslide. You just wait and see.

"McCain wins this thing in a landslide"
Just like Reagan!

Not surprised. Hey, Joe the plumber, who was probably vetted by the candidates staff up the wazoo, asks an innocent question (both the candidate and the common man break the staff rules)and the next thing we know more about Joe the plumber than we ever wanted to know courtesy of the obama "thugs" as they are affectionately called. And, when their foray with the common man backfires on them what do they do? They say joe the plumber, vetted participant, is a republican plant. It makes you afraid ot say anything about anything which is what you want if you are in the brain washing business.

"Win or lose on November 4, for now, Obama has not closed the deal."
And just how in the heck does one go about closing the deal before the votes are cast?

"And just how in the heck does one go about closing the deal before the votes are cast?"
Shut up, that's how.

jaime I can only go by the "Obama thugs" with whom I have had a personal encounter. I am now walking five minutes out of my way, to avoid several of BO's supporters and avoid yet another "have you decided yet, why aren't you voting for Barack? (you idiot) "conversation" Lately, all my encounters with the BO supporters that I know have violated my spacial distance and made me very uncomfortable. I have come to realize that the days of civil political discourse with reasonable people are a thing of the past in my life. I am surrounded by brainwashed people who refuse, literally refuse to even look at anything the other side is saying or offering. Ergo, the Obama thugs have invaded my supermarket, my neighborhood, my work place and I get it, I really get it, "I'm not to say anything against fearless leader"
Posted by: mary | Thursday, October 16, 2008 at 08:26 PM
What? You were canvassed, by Obama volunteers? Oh noes!!!!!
They violated your spatial distance? OMFG!!!!!!
Those canvassers did absolutely nothing to you but approach you with a clipboard and ask you questions. And you know it.
Posted by: jaime | Thursday, October 16, 2008 at 08:39 PM
What volunteers, these are people I know personally. No strangers. The people I know personally, heretofore reasonable and a lot of fun to go out with and work with have turned way too serious, dower and in my face, my face. I mean my boss, my boss asked if I'd given my contribution to the Obama campaign. Seriously, I am beginning to think that I will just say I am voting for the senator, this way, I'm really not lying because I am undecided but lately leaning toward mccain but it will get them off my back.

BTW, the one issue that is really bothering me is abortion. And, it is an issue that I had not really had to consider until last night. BO's discussion of the issue made me uncomfortable.

OMG, John McCain was hysterical at the Alfred E. Smith dinner. Really funny. It was interesting to see another side of him.
Posted by: mary | Thursday, October 16, 2008 at 09:29 PM
"I am undecided"
Bullshit. You're voting for McCain or else you wouldn't be complaining about Obama "thugs" that hang out in front of the supermarket--I mean your friends who Really like Obama--I mean your boss who asks if you've contributed to Obama (since you're undecided and all).
Are you schizophrenic?
Posted by: jaime | Thursday, October 16, 2008 at 09:31 PM
"one issue that is really bothering me is abortion"
Sure. Those woman who are raped are asking for it. They shall revel in their rape baby and call them Palin. If you don't want the baby, maybe you shouldn't get raped.
And to hell with those stupid broads who care more about not dying while giving birth than the culture of life. Who cares about womens "health" anyway?

Mary,
You can watch the video of Obama arguing for infanticide here -

jaime you make a lot of assumptions. First. Yes, I am still undecided. True, I'm leaning toward McCain but I cannot unequivocally say that I am voting for McCain. Sorry if you didn't like my post about my friends and neighbors tuning into "Obam thugs" but that is the view from where I sit and I honestly shared it. It concerns me becasue I am wondering if people are voting in a popularity contest mode or for the president of the US. I don't think that people are giving the election the kind of attention it deserves, the kind of depth of thought.
Jaime I am totally against the way abortion is being used now, as a means of birth control.

Here is my experience. I keep hearing from MSM that Obama is kicking ass everywhere, including where I live and yet for every 10 McCain lawn signs I see, there is only ONE sign for Obama. What I am hearing from MSM is not translating into what I am seeing with my own two eyes. I am trusting what I see rather than what I hear.

I am voting for McCain. No holding back on how I feel. I love it ! I have wanted to put a sign in my yard for a while now but had hesitated but I am no longer afraid of my house being burned down now. I have the insurance all paid up and I have moved all my things that I could not replace to an undisclosed location. So tomorrow my signs go in the yard.
Now, they can go ahead and make my day. I have been wanting to move anyway.
Will keep you posted on how it goes.
LOL.
McCain/Palin 08
Like McCain said....stand up, stand up, stand up, and fight, fight, fight !

"--- It's the double super secret Silent Majority. They don't exist in polls or surveys or in public or on TV or radio. They don't stand up and get counted. ---"
It might have something to do with not wanting to deal with the partisan griefers who shrilly cry about racism, when it is very little to do with the man's skin colour, but rather his ultra-socialist policy we despise.
My neighbourhood is about 50-50 with Obama and McCain signs, plus a few "write-in Ron Paul" signs from die-hards sprinkled in the mix.
We are marginally a Republican district, but if you go by sign count though... it seems that we are more concerned with our local congressman's election, which is heating up rather nastily with allegations of the (D) incumbent candidate's (John Hall) supporters swiping yard signs from supporters of the (R) challenger, Kieran Lalor.
And take a wild guess which of the two candidates is heavily supported by George Soros, and who is not... and who is likely to win. :)

Obama's campaign is not making yard signs a priority. There was a big kerfuffle a month ago about it.
Posted by: jaime | Friday, October 17, 2008 at 04:40 AM
Baloney.
There are more McCain signs here than Obama signs and Obama will take BTV and the state 2 to 1 easily. It's a sure thing. The wing, nudge, nod thing is somebodies wet dream. If Vermont wasn't next to NH, we wouldn't see a single presidential commercial. That's how much of a sure thing VT is.
NH will be blue in Nov. There have been many democrats moving in from MA, CT, Ny, etc and the state is starting to trend like VT in terms of who they elect and the laws they pass. NH is a closed deal.

jaime is a fine example of what passes for "an Obama supporter".
Memo to jaime:
Look up a little thing called "The Night of the Long Knives". That will be your future once you have outlived your usefulness to the Obamamessiah.
