While the Right pushing the whole lipstick thing might be silly, why in the world are the Democrats continuing to push this Palin and earmarks meme they're bringing up, again? She's never been in a position to vote on one and both Biden and Obama have a much bigger problem in this area. And the dumbest part of it is that the Obama camp now seems obsessed with Palin. Someone needs to remind them she's in the VP slot and wasn't in a position to acquire the relatively fewer earmarks she supported the way both Democrats were. And they took advantage of it to boot. I don't see anything for them to win from this ongoing line of attack.
Indeed, in her January state of the state address, Palin said the state “must not rely so heavily on federal government earmarks.”
But the document summarizing Palin’s earmark requests was created the next month, and it suggested a still-healthy appetite for earmarks. Soon afterward, Palin wrote an op-ed in a local newspaper outlining her not-so-reticent posture on earmarks.
“My role at the federal level is simply to submit the most well-conceived earmark requests we can,” she wrote.
Obama's campaign has responded by challenging Palin's reform credentials.
"Senator McCain said Governor Palin ‘learned that earmarks are bad’, but in 2008 alone Gov. Palin requested $256 million in earmarks for Alaska, and her state received more earmarks per person that any other state," said spokesman Tommy Vietor. "The fact is that Governor Palin isn’t just good at getting pork projects, she’s one of the most successful pork barrel politicians in history."

Why because the Republican Reform and Change meme is a lie. It's Garbage. They're pushing the same exact policies, the same exact culture war shit, using the same exact people that has sunk this country since Bush took office.

JOEY HAIR PLUGS STRIKES HIS FIRST DEATH BLOW....TOO BARRY....
JOEY HAIR PLUGS knows itss over and is already starting to make excuses in preparation for his return to his do nothing job riding the train, like some homeless person, back and forth every day from Delaware and DC....I hear he wears a conductors hat!!!
ABC News' Matthew Jaffe reports: Sen. Barack Obama's, D-Ill., vice presidential nominee, Sen. Joe Biden, D-Del., Wednesday said that Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., might have been a better pick for the position than him.
At a rally in Nashua, N.H., a man in the audience told Biden how glad he was that Obama picked him over Hillary, "not because she's a woman, but because, look at the things she did in the past."
"Make no mistake about this," Biden responded. "Hillary Clinton is as qualified or more qualified than I am to be vice president of the United States of America. Let’s get that straight. She’s a truly close personal friend, she is qualified to be president of the United States of America, she’s easily qualified to be vice president of the United States of America, and quite frankly, it might have been a better pick than me. But she’s first rate, I mean that sincerely, she’s first rate, so let’s get that straight."
Spokesman Ben Porritt offered this response from the McCain camp: "Barack Obama’s most important decision of this election, and Biden -- the candidate he selects -- suggests, himself, that he wasn’t the right man for the job, and that Hillary Clinton would have been a better choice. Biden certainly has a credible viewpoint on this."
LOL LOL LOL...

Dan,
"While the Right pushing the whole lipstick thing might be silly"
Good for you. I'm starting to change my opinion of you and this is my 3rd complement in about a week.
"why in the world are the Democrats continuing to push this Palin and earmarks meme they're bringing up, again?"
I think it has to do with the fact that as Mayor she actually hired a lobbyist that actually brought in a lot of federal money. So the democrats do have a point.
Posted by: jharp | Wednesday, September 10, 2008 at 11:11 PM
The Democrats are hoping that the public won't realize that the job of a Governor is to get whatever he or she can for their state. It is not to control the federal budget.
Are the usual suspects, people like harpo and jaime, not bright enough to see the distinction, or are they just hoping no one else is?

"--- They're pushing the same exact policies, the same exact culture war sh*t, using the same exact people that has sunk this country since Bush took office. ---"
This is no big surprise.
And the Dems keep pushing their "identity politics" and multi-culturalism/anti-European American Male agenda, their side of the culture war, and massive taxation and obscene amounts of spending on intrusive, inefficient, and cumbersome government programmes which have been proven ineffective in previous generations.
Why kep doing the same old things that do not work?
There is a better - and Constitutional way.

"The Democrats are hoping that the public won't realize that the job of a Governor is to get whatever he or she can for their state."
Mr.Gain,
So using your reasoning isn't it the job of a Senator or Representative to get whatever they can for their State.
And Ms. Palin was a mayor when she hired the lobbyist to bring home some bacon.
Is that OK with you? Is it the job every mayor in the United States to lobby the federal government to "get whatever they can".
I think not.

"The Democrats are hoping that the public won't realize that the job of a Governor is to get whatever he or she can for their state. It is not to control the federal budget. "
We all know what the job entails, but she's running on the opposite as if she were some kind of "maverick" who turned down $$$ from the feds. In fact one of her biggest go to lines is "The congress wanted to build Alaska a bridge to nowhere and I said 'thanks, but no thanks' " when in fact she sought the money and kept the initial outlay of cash. Shes a liar, how does that make her any different than any other politician?

"Mr. Gain

Harpo
Wrong again. Not everyone on the national stage agrees with this job description. Obama is counting on the media not to educate an uninformed public on this issue so that people like you, who can't figure it out for themselves, will vote against the nation's interest.
What follows is from Power Line.
-----
Whatever your view on that subject, it is undeniable that when it comes to earmarks the Democrats are the pigs. The Council for Citizens Against Government Waste does the math:
John McCain is a “hero” to U.S. taxpayers for his lifetime record of resisting earmarks, while Barack Obama and Joe Biden are “hostile” and “unfriendly,” a government spending watchdog group has concluded.
In its new report, the Council for Citizens Against Government Waste gave the Republican presidential nominee a 100 percent rating for his votes in the Senate last year, and a lifetime score of 88 percent.
By comparison, the nonpartisan, nonprofit group, which is the lobbying arm of Citizens Against Government Waste, gave the Democratic presidential nominee a 10 percent score last year and a lifetime score of 18 percent. Biden, Obama’s running mate, scored 0 percent last year and an overall score of 22 percent.

"Is it the job every mayor in the United States to lobby the federal government to "get whatever they can"."
Actually, that's supposed to be a senator's job....to represent his/her state, they are just too busy representing their various parties to give a shit about you. As soon as you partisans realize that, the better off we will all be.

You all might find this interesting:
--It's true. Mrs. Palin did seek earmarks as Wasilla's mayor. But as governor, she ratcheted down the state's requests for federal dollars, telling the legislature last year Alaska "cannot and must not rely so heavily on federal government earmarks." Her budget chief directed state agencies to reduce earmark requests to only "the most compelling needs" with "a strong national purpose," explaining to reporters "we really want to skinny it down."--

Greetings once again, heroes!! It always saddens me to leave my BLESSED homeland, but duty in the birthplace of Freedom Fries called. It is good to be among such patriots once again.
Just as a reminder, it was 7 years ago today that Iraqi jets, under the orders of Saddam Hussein, attacked America. Your fearless leader sure showed those wicked goatherders though!! Victory!!!
On a slightly related note, one Osama bin Laden has yet to be "smoked out" and "brought to justice" by your esteemed Commander in Chief. Some might point to this as a failure, but not I! I would remind these defeatists that the SURGE WORKED.
Mission accomplished to one and all! You can close your trailer door at night and shop at Walmart the next morning knowing that Iraq will NEVER ATTACK US AGAIN!!

He's a PR man for the Democratic Party. I sure hope he gets to keep his job up until November.
jharp, I don't know how to break this to you, but Palin is a governor, and has no power whatsoever when it comes to earmarks. Earmarks are a perview of the Congress. Palin is NOT a member of Congress. She has no control over earmarks. However, your boy Obama pigged out at the earmark trough. So, if Obama looks like a pig, walks like a pig, wallows in the earmark trough like a pig, then he is a pig.
If you truly want to support someone who has been against earmarks, you need to support McCain. He is the true reformer when it comes to earmarks.
Now, don't ever tell anyone they need a civics lesson again.

Here's Ms. Palin's exast works are: “I told Congress ‘thanks, but no thanks’ to that bridge to nowhere!”.
That's lie.
1. She initially supported the bridge
2. She took the money for the bridge
3. When the bridge became a polticial liablity, she flipped, and claimed to be against it - you know, she was for it before she was against it.
4. She kept the money.

If it were Clinton, Kerry, Gore of Obama out telling lies, I'm guessing most of the posters on this board would be going ballistic. But since she's part of their club, lies are OK.
So when's she going to do a REAL press conference. How's she going to stand up to Putin or Bin Laden is she's scared of a few reporters.

Dude I wasn't there, how the hell would I know? It means absolutely nothing to me either way and I'm sorry you're obsessed with it. If you have some delusion that any politician is honest then you really need help. Sorry, just doesn't mean sh*t to me. I'd have had a problem if I believed she actually wanted books removed from a public library though......if that makes you "feel" better.
Posted by: WAHOO WILLIE | Thursday, September 11, 2008 at 02:46 PM
I guess my standards are a bit higher. I like my politicians - Democrat or Republican - to at least make an attempt at telling the truth and not come right out of the box telling lies.
Yeah, the book thing is also a bit worrisome, but the total package is very scary.
I'm sure you're aware of the Lily Tomlin quote then - "No matter how cynical you get, it is impossible to keep up."

Hey, SacTownMan, I believe chris is obsessed with you. He said he was going to the land of my ancestors, but I have my doubts about that. He most likely couldn't pay his electric bill and is about to be cut off, therefore losing his internet access.
Hey, chris, Bill Gates provided computers to most public libraries across the country, you might try one of those, if you can find one that allows dirty, smelly hippies like yourself. Also, if you can fit it into your schedule, you can pick up aluminum cans on the side of the highway to make a little spare pizza cash. Oh, shit, that's too much like work for you. I forgot, you have your pride. It's off to the welfare center for you.
And after giving it some thought, chris, you probably qualify for those "crazy checks" the government gives out. You might try that angle as well, if you haven't already. I tell you what, I'll give it some more thought, there's bound to be something out there you can do. Any suggestions for chris, anyone?

No, I imagine our "standards" are likely equal. I say that assuming that you too would like a "true believer", someone whose love for his fellow man and country is second only to his faith, someone who would stand beside us to fight the mongrel hordes to his last breath. It's our cynicism that separates us. See I know they are all long dead, the John Adams' of the world and you my friend seem to believe there is hope.....I truly envy you that.

EH, TK is more willing to discuss ideas than you give him credit for. He just gets fed up with being attacked and fights back in his own way. You'd enjoy a beer with him. OK, so to our discussion. Strangely I was at the same conclusion that there are in fact millions of John Adams' and the like out there, but they have no backing. They also tend to be pretty humble in public, serving as they can in an unobtrusive manner. We unfortunately have gotten what we unintentionally asked for ages ago when we allowed ourselves to be split on partisan lines. We chose this or that issue, called it our own, and allowed people no better than us to lead us down a path to destruction. Oh yes, both sides and by playing sides we have allowed these fools to stray from representing us.

Erm, "Ron Paul". Or "Chuck Baldwin". Although in the case of the former, the "in the tank for McBama Media" did their level best to exclude the Hon. Dr. Paul from any _serious_ discussions during his run.
I mean, he made the "Colbert Report" once or twice, but that was after his primary run came to an end.
In the case of the latter, Dr. Baldwin has too much of a hurdle in terms of being an unknown - the media won't even acknowledge his existence.
And it goes pretty much the same for all the other non-major party candidates (possibly excepting Bob Barr, whose clout as a former Republican goes a little way).
