With Barack Obama fresh out of Chicago, Rezko potentially talking and Obama's years as a State Senator to be investigated and in no time at all the AP comes up with this attack on Palin?
She gladly accepted gifts from merchants: A free "awesome facial" she raved about in a thank-you note to a spa. The "absolutely gorgeous flowers" she received from a welding supply store. Even fresh salmon to take home.
I don't care if they look into Palin's background. But she's the VP nominee and now with the country finally looking in they all but ignore Obama's corrupt past. This is as outrageous as it is irresponsible and biased.
They are setting the stage for a very ugly last month of this election.

Just came across this -
http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,952425-6,00.html
As if acknowledging the strangeness of her accent, Ferraro commented that those constituents "are not alone; you know people just like them." Finally, she voiced an appreciation of her unprecedented role as a woman on the ticket: "There's an electricity in the air, an excitement, a sense of new possibilities and of pride." Then came the standard campaign scene of the two candidates waving from the rostrum surrounded by members of their families, but this time with a striking twist: Ferraro's husband joined the crowd on the podium in the role of smiling, adoring spouse.
etc. etc. read it all

So Sarah got a variance. Big deal, where I live they get them all the time even when they, themselves, built illegally. And salmon, yum.
Meanwhile, I just read a lengthy article about how Obama's lawyer is threatening TV stations about those McCain NRA ads. (The link is through Instapundit) http://xrlq.com/2008/09/26/fascist-jerk-of-the-day-robert-f-bauer/

I heard she once accepted a glass of water and she actually drank it!
She is a liar don't you know, that's what I saw on Koz. And her husband is a child molester, I saw that on Saturday Night Live.
And her daughter is the mother of her Downs baby. She's such a liar! That baby looks just like those other downs babies and they must have adopted him just for the election.
How can she ever compare to Uncle Joey who knows a lot of stuff. Just like when he said President Roosevelt spoke on TV in 1929! He was amazing that Frank.
I wonder how many people actually saw President Roosevelt on TV in 1929 beside him?

Biden is going to be wonderful in the debate -
http://neoconlatina.blogspot.com/2008/09/look-im-very-proud-of-my-vice.html
excerpt
The problem is that Biden has been wrong on every major foreign policy issue of this generation. In particular, Biden (i) opposed Reagan on defense spending, which is generally credited with helping to win the Cold War; (ii) opposed the 1991 Persian Gulf war, which would have left Saddam in charge of Kuwait (and possibly Saudi Arabia); (iii) supported the 2003 Iraq war, which Biden now says was a mistake; (iv) called for a partition of Iraq into 3 largely-autonomous states, which now looks pretty foolish; and (v) opposed the surge, which -- had Biden gotten his way -- would have ensured defeat in Iraq.
But perhaps the most striking example of Biden's poor instincts on foreign policy was his reaction to 9/11. This New Republic article from 2001 recounts the disturbing story of what Biden told his staffers a mere three weeks after the 9/11 attacks:
At the Tuesday-morning meeting with committee staffers, Biden launches into a stream-of-consciousness monologue about what his committee should be doing, before he finally admits the obvious: "I'm groping here." Then he hits on an idea: America needs to show the Arab world that we're not bent on its destruction. "Seems to me this would be a good time to send, no strings attached, a check for $200 million to Iran," Biden declares.

I am not sure how they could get uglier. Hatred has already consumed them to the point of madness. If they think this is a game changer, then rationality has long since passed them by.

You perhaps could compare and contrast the Palin "sins" with the Obama connection to this dose of Chicago politics from the Chicago Sun Times?

It looks as though there will be a full bore smear campaign of Palin before her debate with Biden. Obama is, and has always been, untouchable. Who cares if he got $1M for his wife's employer and her salary strangely went up more than a regular raise? Who cares if Obama keeps lying about warning about this credit crisis? Palin accepted a facial from a beauty salon as mayor!!! Way more important!

They are setting the stage for a very ugly last month of this election.
Ugly in that the MSM will offer more slanderous and libelous hit pieces on the GOP candidates to make certain that the One wins.
A few people have mentioned that this could be the last gasp for the MSM, as their nakedly transparent attempts to will Obama into office are shredding whatever little credibility they had left. What no one seems to mention, though, is what will happen should they actually succeed. We will now have Pravda on the Beltway, where our daily doses of "truth" get dripped out.

Don't kid yourself, Dan, the MSM and especially the AP know all about Obama's long ties to these corrupt and America-hating creeps. At best, they will issue sanitized stories about them as a prophylactic measure and then spend the rest of the campaign playing goalie for O! when McCain and conservative 527s bring them up in paid advertising.

Ah, yes, the Lollipop Queen would have us believe that St. Barry of the Universal Cult of Socialism is but a sinless lamb; the messiah can do no wrong.
Funny thing though, how the communist-sympathizing media simply ignores anything remotely negative about the Zero, but spends its collective might trying to smear Gov. Palin.
As much as I detest getting those "Republican Victory Fund" mailers begging me for money to help offset the significant financial edge the Kleptocrat Party has, I just might part with a few hard-earned FRN's just to spite our treasonous media.
Shakespeare once wrote "...kill all the lawyers". I think most of our journalist corps should also be introduced to ropes and trees in a rather rough and unpleasant manner as well, or at least horsewhipped, tarred, and feathered.

DJI was down -325 points, but has recovered to -266 (-2.39%)
Nikkei (.N225) took a -150 (-1.26) hit last night. Nothing terribly unusual, but today's market activity will likely have some very marked impacts on tonight's Nikkei trading.
Asian ETFs trading on the NYSE and NASDAQ are taking a severe beating (watching the Vanguard Pacific VIPER - VPL at -5.45% of Friday's close as an example)...
FTSE (London) took a beatdown of nearly -195 (-3.83%)
Looks like there could be some serious bloodletting today. Any thought on US treasury funds? I think there will be a significant shift into those and also into precious metals - watch for gold and silver to spike sharply upward.

Hilarious. It's as if every day since Obama announced his candidacy never existed. You all continue to peddle the same nonsense to no avail. You can't prove any corruption on Obama's part. You've tried, and continually come up with nothing but tenuous links, and then flail about wondering why no one will listen. And now when the media looks in to Lady Mooseburger's dubious (at best) record, you scream "BIAS!!!!!!"

Gov. Blunt Statement on Obama Campaign’s Abusive Use of Missouri Law Enforcement
JEFFERSON CITY - Gov. Matt Blunt today issued the following statement on news reports that have exposed plans by U.S. Senator Barack Obama to use Missouri law enforcement to threaten and intimidate his critics.
“St. Louis County Circuit Attorney Bob McCulloch, St. Louis City Circuit Attorney Jennifer Joyce, Jefferson County Sheriff Glenn Boyer, and Obama and the leader of his Missouri campaign Senator Claire McCaskill have attached the stench of police state tactics to the Obama-Biden campaign.
“What Senator Obama and his helpers are doing is scandalous beyond words, the party that claims to be the party of Thomas Jefferson is abusing the justice system and offices of public trust to silence political criticism with threats of prosecution and criminal punishment.
“This abuse of the law for intimidation insults the most sacred principles and ideals of Jefferson. I can think of nothing more offensive to Jefferson’s thinking than using the power of the state to deprive Americans of their civil rights. The only conceivable purpose of Messrs. McCulloch, Obama and the others is to frighten people away from expressing themselves, to chill free and open debate, to suppress support and donations to conservative organizations targeted by this anti-civil rights, to strangle criticism of Mr. Obama, to suppress ads about his support of higher taxes, and to choke out criticism on television, radio, the Internet, blogs, e-mail and daily conversation about the election.
“Barack Obama needs to grow up. Leftist blogs and others in the press constantly say false things about me and my family. Usually, we ignore false and scurrilous accusations because the purveyors have no credibility. When necessary, we refute them. Enlisting Missouri law enforcement to intimidate people and kill free debate is reminiscent of the Sedition Acts - not a free society.”

I've largely been avoiding the techs and financials since last month... I was expecting some sort of September-October shake up (especially in an election year) so I've shifted into a rough 10/30/60 mix of precious metals, cash funds and short-term treasury bonds, hoping that the market volatility won't allow inflation to dig too deeply into the portfolio. More of a defensive position than anything else at this point; I figure I'll sit on this (plus a few shifts depending upon what the currency markets do, and how nasty the overall market gets) until mid-November.

"But I have no faith that the Republicans are going to run ads pointing these things out."

We're getting into crunch time, and there are quite a few organizations sitting out there that have been willing, until recently, to cede all public message delivery choices over to McCain The Candidate. They have done so out of a desire to avoid confusing or contradictory messages, as well as out of respect for the leadership position that the actual campaign is normally granted in an election.
But, if The Campaign is going to keep passing up opportunities to point out facts that cry out for attention, those orgs are going to jump in and fill the gap. Ads are being written and shot as we type.
Posted by: bobby b | Monday, September 29, 2008 at 11:56 AM
It is a virtual certainty that Obama is going to squeak by with a victory....between the media's outright hostility and falsehoods and the McCain campaign's missteps, especially their unwillingness to use advertising to their own advantage.
Sane, grown up people can only hope that Obama isn't as bad as we think he might be, or that the economy will be so bad that he can't get his socialist agenda passed but not so bad he does an FDR style take over....

Many bloggers are describing how CNN rejected their postings about Obama's socialism ... even though it was in Obama's own words. I have experienced similar censorship from CNN, as well as other biased media outlets. If Obama gets elected, and this great country declines into socialism, it will be the corrupt and biased media who will bear much of the responsibility. Free enterprise, opportunity, and the standard of living in the United States, are some of the reasons why people from all over the world risk life and limb to move here. A fair media is paramount to a free society. The media never vetted Obama. Now the momentum of his campaign and fund raising has made it very hard to stop his 'run away train". If Americans had known half the stuff we now know about Obama, he would never have gotten this far ... and, there is a lot we still don't know about Obama! For example ... are hundreds of millions of dollars in contributions that are helping him get elected, originally from foreign sources? Is his birth certificate authentic? The media's willful decision to grossly favor one side, and refuse to report the truth, is evil and betrays their responsibility to the American people. In my opinion the media's actions, and inactions in this situation amount to criminal behavior. Who are the media accountable to?
