I can remember when Andrew Sullivan was thoughtful and reasoned in his writings. Ever since his increasingly fixated and shrill attacks on "torture" (as he broadly defines it) and his ceaseless harangues about gay marriage, however, he's not just run ever-further leftward but has also adapted the tactics of the lefties he once decried. It's a dispiriting development, whatever one's political views, when a gifted commentator goes off the rails.
At the same time, a commenter who uses anti-gay slurs does no credit to his or her own views or to those who don't like what Sullivan is about these days. If that is the best way to express your disapproval of Sullivan, I suggest you reconsider your approach.

Well said, solidstate. And as such a one who has brought no small railing commentary against Mr. Sullivan on account of his wretched recent writings, I must apologize, and ask this forum's forgiveness for heaping an ill-spoke judgment upon Mr. Sullivan on account of his sin, when my sins (which are many) have been forgiven by Christ's redemption.
Now the truly funny thing is, is that Sullivan is now loathed not only by left, and by his fellow gays for their perception of him as a hypocrite and for being something of an ideological traitor (as the vast overwhelming majority of LGBT people are far to the left of the American mainstream political centre) but he is no increasingly despised by those who he once had as an audience (save of course, for the bits on torture, which I could reasonably agree with to a point, and gay marriage, which I cannot readily abide as a cultural institution co-equal to heterosexual marriage and a proper family).
If anything, Mr. Sullivan should have never been really accepted by the right from the beginning, as his perverse and evil lifestyle he has chosen is an affront to the standards of decency and morality we have, as Americans, traditionally held.
But this is a fallen and sinful world we live in, as it is generally easier to let our standards slide than to uphold them - even (and especially so) in the face of our desperately wicked hearts, and those of desperately wicked brothers and sisters of Adam's fallen race... if we are merely content to "live and let live" at the table of Belial, then so shall we also slide into the abyss, and the ash-heap of history as a ruined and shattered nation, destroyed by our own hubris and moral relativism.
This is the lesson of Lot, and of Sodom and Gomorrah: It was of God smiting the prideful, boastful nation, much more than God smiting the gays and lesbians and child molesters of those cities.
The presence and open acceptance of that sort of sin is but a SYMPTOM of that far greater problem which has felled many greater empires than ours: a PRIDE that despises God and His ways.
