I got one of those McCain absentee request forms but I didn't fill it out. I waited an extra week for the official Cuyahoga County absentee ballot request form came. Now I'm kind of glad I did. The thing is, now I'm worried about all of the "Postal Workers For Obama" signs around the downtown post offices...

Does this suprise anyone that the Dems are going to rig this election. They are playing for keeps this time. Conservatives for some reason think that even if the Dems win this time and screw things up the people will boot them out of office. Let me clue you in people, if the Dems win this time they aren't ever going to give it up peacefully.
They will openly rig the system to keep themselves in power. I mean look they already want to get rid of the secret ballot for union membership. That is just a trial balloon folks. If they could they will get rid of any opposition party by any means they can.

From the party of Xerxes the god king we get "Change" we can believe in!

Now it's time to "Hope" that the American people continue to see through the Soros funded slime campaign that has been unleashed on Palin!

Gotta love that "new kind of politics" i.e. Chicago Style!

OT but relevant,

Here is a posting about an exchange that apparently just occurred on the Kudlow program on CNBC:

"Jimmy on Kudlow just said that McCain is going to come out against the bill. Vince answered him "McCain would never come out against the bill" and Jimmy fired back "Don't bet on it". And the program went to final commercial.

How's that for an exchange? The soap opera of the government versus wall street continues."

http://dealbreaker.com/2008/09/-they-said-the-same.php

Could this be true?

"But that's contrary to state law and Brunner doesn't have the authority, according to the lawsuit and an opinion from Hamilton County's Republican Prosecutor Joe Deters."

So, can we assume the Republicians are already on this in the courts? I hope so, cause we can't be bullied by a bunch of femi-nazi's

karrpe-

"The thing is, now I'm worried about all of the "Postal Workers For Obama" signs around the downtown post offices..."

I've already decided to vote in person. (Franklin Co. suburb)

Of course, I can understand why you wouldn't trust voting in some Cuyahoga precincts- I remember seeing a story on 2004 that there was a precinct that didn't record a single vote for Bush.

The forms were sent out by McCain, not Bunner. Why, exactly, did they decide to add the "I am a qualified elector" checkbox? Seems to me McCain's campaign created the problem when they decided to confuse the form with the extra checkbox.

Here's the form - they put the checkbox at the top of the form and used a larger font.
http://news.cincinnati.com/assets/AB117580911.PDF

And how do you prosecute someone for voter fraud if they submit a fraudulent ballot and don't check the checkbox claiming to be a qualified elector?

There is a certain savage irony in this Ohio Democratic foray. During the Civil War, Ohio was at the forefront of Republicans bent on defeating the secessionist Democrats. For a hundred years after that war Ohio has taken in tens of thousands of southern blacks fleeing their cracker Democratic white fellow southern neighbors. Now that same Democratic party has followed them North and seduced their votes against the very Republicans who are responsible for their freedom. It is sick and the Democrats need called on this. Democrats and Communists BOTH need banned from America.

rofl peter bronson is well known for filling his articles with lies and misinformation. Go ahead though and keep believing him.

Where were your cries of election malfeasance when Blackwell rejected thousands of registrations in 06, 04, 02, and 2000? Ah of course, it's okay if a Republican does such things.

These are not absentee ballots being disqualified by the way. Though Dan is pretty good at trying to deceive his readers as well. What was disqualified were absentee ballot applications!

There is still plenty of time to re-apply for an absentee ballot, and the McCain campaign should have no problem re-mailing such applications at little cost.

Honestly, you're whining about something really small. This is nothing compared to the rejected voter registrations which Blackwell oversaw.

I work as presiding judge here in OH. This Brunner woman is a complete hack idiot. We have the electronic voting machines in many counties and they are solid - I can't conceive of a way to use them to rig an election, but idiots don't need a reason. I especially enjoyed her decision to add paper ballots to the process when they ran out of them in many northern counties...hey moron, electronic machines never run out! I am NOT looking forward to this election - it will be Fraudapalooza

Do the Ohio machines give the vote a receipt?

http://www.cuyahogavoting.org/CERP_Final_Report_20060720.pdf

LOL, read it again, it says

Brunner sent a memo telling county election officials to reject those applications for absentee ballots if the box was not checked. "Failure to check the box leaves both the applicant and the board of elections without verification that the applicant is a 'qualified elector'," she wrote.

Apologies to Dan are in order.

They're not absentee ballots, they're absentee ballot APPLICATIONS

i.e. It is a correctable error, the deadline to apply for an application is not for another month. This is nothing like rejected registrations forms on the eve of the registration deadline a la Ken Blackwell.

are you fucking stupid?

Hey, I'm against voter suppression or whatever you choose to call as much as the next guy.

But I'm glad to see this. Maybe now BOTH sides will take a good long hard look at what is and has been happening.

LOL

You can't read

This is what Dan wrote above: "McCain absentee ballots being disqualified in Ohio by a Democrat Secretary of State."

That's wrong - it's the APPLICATION for an absentee ballot that's being denied.

"Two Cincinnati voters have asked the Ohio Supreme Court to force the secretary of state to accept their ABSENTEE BALLOT REQUESTS despite the secretary's contention the applicants - like thousands of others across the state, including in Cuyahoga County - did not properly complete the forms."

http://blog.cleveland.com/openers/2008/09/voters_sue_secretary_of_state.html

Worst President Ever, you dems crack me up. You are so busy searching for something, anything to use in your onslaught. I understood what dan meant and I'm sure that I'm not alone.

It's not splitting hairs; no ballots were thrown out.

Votes can be cast normally, and the inconvenience is minor.

smashmouth politics. Shithead thieves like LOL and worst president (would that be Carter or Clinton, I wonder) natter on about it, but this illegal action by this corrupt Dem (sorry for the repeat) needs to be stomped on right now. As Dan said, the checkbox means nothing under Ohio law. But it was a great way to identify new Republican voters to deny their franchise.

Sooner or later it will be time to drain the swamp of these bastards. They stole the governorship here in Washington last cycle and they are working up to steal this election for POTUS. Obambi is such a corrupt, progressive idiot (sorry again for repeating myself) who couldn't get elected national dog catcher without help from vote fraudsters like this cow and Acorn.

Of course, the FBI is investigating Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. Obambi has a trail of crumbs leading from there to his door....

"You are so busy searching for something, anything to use in your onslaught"

http://news.cincinnati.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080917/NEWS01/309170066

"Smith said the county Board of Elections mailed her a new application, but she plans to await results of the legal action. Smith also is allowed to vote in person beginning Sept. 30 under Ohio’s early voting option.

...

County Boards of Election are following a recommendation from Brunner that applications without the box checked be rejected and new ones sent to voters."

Yeah, funny how Dan didn't mention that Brunner is sending new, accurate, applications to all these voter. Or that they can still vote in person
from sept. 30 to Nov. 4

Keep digging wingnuts

oh and God forbid you wingnuts should get your news of what's going on from, you know, actual news articles such as the one I've linked to. Instead you get your news from op-eds. Sad and pathetic, and a true testament to out out of touch with reality you are.

Hey Mary it's easier to just call him Jimmy!

His main tactic is to just fling that monkey poop and hope something sticks!

You know that it's hard to carry on a battle of wits when you opponent is unarmed!

Nothing will stand in the way of the coronation.............

The way I see it, the dems of all people should know better than to do anything to interfere in any way with voting. They are still complaining about Florida.

huh? what are you idiots talking about? She RESENT THEM ABSENTEE APPLICATIONS

So, LOL, your fall back position is an illegal action is okay if there's no visible harm, right? You're an idiot.

"....the inconvenience is minor." Did you use that argument for the infamous 'butterfly ballot' in Florida? Or when Gore had legal absentee ballots from troops cast overseas? Or does it depend on who is getting disenfranchised? I'm guessing it's the latter.

Oh, and LOL, were you supporting Kathleen Harris in Florida when, as Secretary of State, she merely *correctly FOLLOWED THE LAW*? Were you yelling, "the inconvenience is minor," or were you whining? I'm betting on the latter case here, too.

And how do you prosecute someone for voter fraud if they submit a fraudulent ballot and don't check the checkbox claiming to be a qualified elector?

These are not absentee ballots. They're just applications requesting a ballot be sent to the address specified on the form. And from what I've read it sounds as though there are no state standards requiring anyone to check any such box. She just made it up.

There is still plenty of time to re-apply for an absentee ballot, and the McCain campaign should have no problem re-mailing such applications at little cost.

Yes, they should do that right away regardless of the eventual outcome (though I suspect a million ballots might cost something to print and mail out.) One problem, I suspect, is that certain of those voters are already expecting their absentee ballots to be delivered to the mailing addresses specified on the application form which this woman intends to disqualify.

But, yes, if the voters are all at the same address the McCain campaign has on file (or can harvest from the rejected application forms, if they're allowed to), and if the voter sees the second form arrive and realizes they need to fill it out all over again. And if they mail it back in time. And if these diligent state officials don't discover another unsuspected formatting requirement. And if the person receives the absentee ballot in time. Then everything works out just fine. As I'm sure Ms. Brunner intends.

Or maybe she could just arrange to send official forms to these people directly at the address they specified. That would be nice, wouldn't it?

Fine with me. If the idiots in dying Ohio want to play dirty we can do it also. Never owned anything but an American made (what parts are available) vehicle but you can be sure I will make sure anything I buy from now on does not contain parts made in Ohio or anything assembled in Ohio. A few thousand people join in and Ford and GM are cooked. Was just looking at a Ford Sprot Trax, guess I'll forget that and look for something made in the South. Toyota maybe.

Maybe you should ask the McCain campaign why they were stupid enough to alter the form. THAT's what caused all the problems.

Ohio has a form that's already been vetted, approved and used. Take the form, copy it, send it out to your constituents. Job done. Instead, McCain created their own form and added a checkbox to show the request is from a registered voter.

If you can't even copy a simple form without screwing it up, how are you going to run the country?

Hey Scrapiron, don't blame the autoworkers for the idiot in charge. Ohio is going to go McCain by a good margin, no matter what Brunner pulls.

I live in the Dem stronghold here, but its also Clinton country and a lot of people are ticked off about the primaries. The Ohio newspapers poll last week showed 40% McCain, which is huge support for this area. Obama would need 70-80% here to balance off the margins in Southern Ohio.

The Repub office can't even keep the Dem for McCain signs in stock. And the local party bosses (Bib Hagen & Co) calling everyone racists is only driving more votes McCain's way.

"--- Never owned anything but an American made... ---"

I hate to say this, but there hasn't been a decent, reliable American car built in the past 20 years that'd I'd pay my money to drive.

Japanese and Germans for the automotive win.

"--- The thing is, now I'm worried about all of the "Postal Workers For Obama" signs around the downtown post offices... ---"

Around the post offices, as in "inside the building or on federal property", or around the post offices, as in "mounted on buildings or carried by people on property adjacent to the post offices"...?

The distinction is important, for as far as I can remember, electioneering on federal property is rather heavily regulated (the Hatch Act) if not forbidden outright in most cases.

Wait let me get this right, you guys are complaining about dirty tricks in Ohio and you're not talking about a republican? Tricks so dirty that the applicants in question have time to walk to the Ohio Sec. of States office fill out the application properly and walk home and be in time to watch next weekends browns game? Oh my goodness...the animals.

Ken Blackwell is somewhere laughing at this.

Wheres Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton when you need them?

I in my misguided youth worked for Dem machines in St. Louis, LA, Chicago & Detroit & can attest that no one [in those four vicinities] is dirtier than the Dems. In 2000 & 2004, Wisconsin was hijacked in the electoral college by 5000 & 10K votes respectively, after widespread cheating in black Milwaukee precincts & college-town Madison. The Repubs don't have the commanding heights of the MSM to bawl and brawl [the Dems have a million ambulance chasers] & since they won legally, didn't make a federal case out of WI.

The loony-tune left is beginning to orchestrate a massive vote grab in Ohio & Oberhauptfuhrerin Brunner will be Gauleiter in this neo-fascist enterprise.

It will have to be a landslide or better to keep the Dem ambulance chaser legal beagles from howling at the moon and chasing votes AFTER the elections where the Dems lose by less than a quarter million!

Let me get this straight:

1. McCain camp alters application form provided by the state board of elections.

2. McCain registrants submit the form after improperly filling it out.

3. Sec. of state says, no, fill out the proper form and you will be registered.

4. Dan Riehl: OMGZ LIEbrul fascists in Ohio are throwing out absentee BALLOTS!!!!!!!

5. Dumbass Dan Riehl fanboys buy the lie hook, line, and sinker.

Hurry, I heard somewhere that an Obama supporter put up a video supporting Obama - on YouTube. There must be a crime in there somewhere. Go, Kerners! Go!

Attention liberal moonbats:

We realize that the absentee ballot application forms were erroneous, and properly rejected.

What we are pointing out is that Ms. Brunner is, and was waiting like a spring-loaded bear trap to snap onto any opportunity she has to silence her opposition.

Dan pointed out at least two other incidences of her hyper-partisan activities. She is ever as much a part of Democrat machine politics as Obama or any of the other Cult of the Latter Day Socialists could hope to be - indeed, the Boss Tweed and the other Ghosts of Tammany Hall must be smiling upon her.

Of course, had a bunch of illegals sent in forms WITHOUT the box checked, Dan would be screaming about how Ms. Brunner accepted forms that weren't complete and should have been rejected. Otherwise, what's the point of including the checkbox and text if you don't mean it to be used?

Are Republicans in Ohio still planning to deny voters in foreclosed homes the right to vote?

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/graphic/2006/03/16/GR2006031600213.html

You know, for a presiding judge, you sure don't bother checking information. One would think a simple Google search would give you data. First hit. But let's get more in depth...

Heck, I'll sum it up.

There are 3 ways to rig elections:
1: Stuff ballots. This is physically adding to the rolls to get the result you want.
2: Remove votes. This is where you get rid of votes you don't want.
3: Change the numbers during tabulation. 15 voted for guy A and 10 for B? Looks like 12.5 and 12.5

Number 1 requires a lot of work and has a difficult time happening if there is a secure process to keep track of the votes. Large scale difficulty. Paper ballots also hinder it.

Number 2 requires access to the ballots as well and a lot of work to do it on a large scale. If secure methods of tracking votes are taken it becomes difficult.

Number 3 also requires a lot of work to do and is near impossible without corruption in a widespread manner.

Well, electronic voting changes all that. All you need it to introduce a way to do number 3 and have no documentation of votes to allow verification of the original data. 3 is the most dangerous way of rigging elections. For electronic voting, it is the easiest way to do it. 25 people vote, and it just has to spit out 25 votes to avoid detection. The original vote of 15 to 10 becomes 13 to 12 and you have a place that was supposed to go to a candidate go there, but not by as wide a margin. This games the system without making anyone suspicious enough to check and you get closer races where the small numbers are enough to win for the candidate you want.

Paper trails are a good thing. They should be insisted on and all voters should be given a confirmation of their vote showing how it was entered. I don't know why anyone would insist otherwise. You want to make sure your vote is counted and done so fairly, correct?

http://www.verifiedvotingfoundation.org/article.php?id=6529
Here, read up on how to alter tons of votes without any trail. Easy, fast, and no mess.

Sometimes technology is NOT the answer to fix things.
Making a ballot easy to read, concise, and have no stupid gimmick is the way to do things.

Yea, cause she is so much worse than her predecessor...

http://www.rollingstone.com/news/story/10432334/was_the_2004_election_stolen

read section II.

If you want to talk about voter suppression and outright conflict of interest, feel free to set up a gold standard. By law everyone has a chance to challenge being taken off the voter registration.
Setting up a court a week before the election and sending notices less than a week before the trial would likely be an undue burden on people working, don't you think? It made it nearly impossible for these folks to exercise their constitutional right to vote. How would you have liked to have gotten a letter telling you that you can't vote and need to be in that very day to prove you exist or lose your vote?

Ms. Brunner got rid of people willing to do this to voters to stop them from voting for a democrat.
If anything you should thank her. If they were willing to do it against Democrats, how much more effective would it have been for the Democrats just to buy them off and have them switch sides and steal the election from McCain?

She's sending out the proper forms. That beats her predecessor's historical actions. Might I suggest you conservative moonbats pay attention? Your party is rather happy to set up ridiculous grabs of power when they have the ability to abuse it and not think of the consequences that might happen later. Killing the ability to fillibuster was a Republican idea. Someone wisely pointed out to them elections were the next year and they didn't do it, they lost the House. Had they done it, the current Congress would have murdered any agenda they had.

So before you guys go defending a system easily manipulated that can allow a few savvy people to steal an election, think. Do you really want the angry geeks that are mostly left leaning deciding that an entire party needs to lose every election one year? Electronic voting can make it happen and do so with no way to challenge it. Corrupt people up top seem to think they won't mobilize. They just haven't been paying attention.

"--- Are Republicans in Ohio still planning to deny voters in foreclosed homes the right to vote? ---"

I reckon that would depend upon how many of those foreclosed former homeowners were either (D)s or (R)s...

For ObviousTroll:

I don't dispute your statement about the peril of electronic voting -- if I had my druthers, anything but a highly secured paper ballot, heavily audited by multiple overlapping layers of security and accountability and would be under the ban.

Phe4r the angreh lefty g33ks, I say, yes, phe4r them. I'd say that it is only a matter of time, if not already, that they will have some part in hacking the election.

http://blog.dispatch.com/politics/2008/09/updated_gop_blasts_obama_comme.shtml

Snip:

The back-and-forth continues over a comment Democrat Barack Obama made yesterday in response to a question about "stolen" elections.

"I would just like to know what you can say to reassure us that this election will not be rigged or stolen?" a woman asked Obama at an economic forum at Kent State University's Tuscarawas campus in New Philadelphia.

"Well, I tell you what, it helps in Ohio that we've got Democrats in charge of the machines," Obama replied -- adding quickly that he is from Chicago, where Democrats have been accused of rigging votes in the past.

The comment was a reference to accusations from the 2004 election in Ohio that under Republican Secretary of State J. Kenneth Blackwell, heavily Democratic or minority precincts received fewer voting machines than more affluent, Republican suburbs. Democrat Jennifer Brunner is now the state's chief election officer.

Ohio Republican Party Chairman Robert Bennett issued a statement saying Obama's comment "basically amounted to an endorsement of vote-rigging."

"That may be how you win elections back in Chicago, but Ohioans tend to frown upon the idea of massive voter fraud, especially when it's floated by a presidential candidate," Bennett said. "Jennifer Brunner's meddling with Ohio's elections system and her firing of elections officials for political reasons has been disturbing enough, but it now seems the Obama-Brunner team are openly wearing the same partisan jersey. Ohioans will not stand for this blatant disregard for the integrity of our elections system."

Bennett was one of the election officials replaced when he resigned under pressure from Brunner last year as chairman of the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections.

Besides, Obama is already ( http://www.pittsburghlive.com/x/pittsburghtrib/news/election/s_584284.html ) illegally paying organizations in Ohio with a long and distinguished track record of ( http://www.jsonline.com/story/index.aspx?id=785773 ) voter fraud.

But as we see here, Democrats and Obama supporters fully endorse and support voter fraud if that's what it would take to get "The One" elected. I'm sure jaime, jharp, and the others could explain to us why allowing ineligible people to vote or why stuffing ballot boxes was OK because it was for the "greater good" of putting Obama into power.

seeker:

"What we are pointing out is that Ms. Brunner is, and was waiting like a spring-loaded bear trap to snap onto any opportunity she has to silence her opposition."

You realize she resent all these people new absentee applications?

I mean, what you guys are calling VOTER DISENFRANCHISEMENT

is basically people having to fill out a second application to vote absentee

I mean... Seriously? This is your great VOTER FRAUD IN OHIO story?

Do you realize this is one of the first elections in Ohio where anyone can vote absentee? And starting Sept 30 all the way to the election anyone can vote early too? This is your voter fraud case?

LOL, I was referring to this, from Dan's original post:

"--- Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner has a reputation as the most partisan state official in Ohio. And she works hard to earn it. The Democrat's latest stunt rejected absentee ballots for thousands of Republicans.

But it's not her first rodeo. Almost as soon as Brunner was elected in 2006, she tried to remove several Republican county elections officials, including Ohio Republican Party Chairman Robert Bennett. They accused her of "storm trooper tactics" to silence critics.

Then Brunner spread an alarm that Ohio's electronic voting machines were vulnerable to tampering - a favorite claim of the paranoid left. Elections officials who participated in Brunner's study called her conclusions over-hyped "leaps in logic" and said, "The report itself could be viewed as an attack on the elections system ... (that) planted seeds in the mind of the public to mistrust those who oversee elections."

Brunner also demanded an overhaul of voting methods just before the March primaries, causing meltdowns in some precincts. ---"

Are you serious? Your claiming the democrats are trying to steal an election?

When the REPUBLICANS stole the 2000 and 2004 elections?

But yet the democrats are thiefs??

Seriously? Are you Re-thugs really gonna go there?

Obviously, yall know that Barack and the over all democratic party is gonna win this years election.

So instead of losing fairly, you decide to cry wolf.

If anybody is the fraud here its the Whole Repulican party.

Not the demorcrats.

Get over it!!!

Obama's gonna win by a landslide in all the battle ground states.

Why do you think that florida, north carolina and indiana are toss-up states, when they are usualy RED states?

Hello!

Just get used to the fact that Barack Obama will be your president. Suck it up and move on!

Cuz the way you Re-thugs fucked up America, there is no way in HELL that anybody will feel sorry for you when you lose.

Wether its stolen or not.

Obama/Biden08!

It seems to me if Ohio had valid voter registration lists, there should be no issue and Jennifer Brunner couldn't make one.
Applications could just be checked against the lists.
Apparently, she thinks this is not possible.
How come, I wonder?

John McCain sending out a million absentee applications?
Accidentally leaving a check box off?
How convenient.
I'm willing to bet that most of these applications were sent to democrats.
