BBC Sept 9: World Wants KERRY For Prez????

Oops, that was September 9, 2004.

A new poll in 35 countries suggests that people around the world would prefer Democratic challenger John Kerry as US president over George W Bush.

This is actually a Reuters story from today, Sept 9th, 2008. Brazil, China, Egypt, Indonesia, the UAE and others? Heck, some of these fine folks don't even get to really vote at home and others run into protests when they try to buy land, or a port here ... what are the odds American will take their advice when electing the next President? About the same if not worse as in 2004, I'd wager.

US Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama may be struggling to nudge ahead of his Republican rival in polls at home, but people across the world want him in the White House, a BBC poll said.

All 22 countries covered in the poll would prefer to see Senator Obama elected US president ahead of Republican John McCain.

A total of 23,531 people in Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, Egypt, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Kenya, Lebanon, Mexico, Nigeria, Panama, the Philippines, Poland, Russia, Singapore, Turkey, the UAE, Britain and the United States were interviewed face-to-face or by telephone in July and August 2008 for the poll.

This shouldn't be too surprising, given the results of the 2008 Obama Rock Star™ World Tour a month ago or so.

I mean, it is not as if all those crowds of Germans thronging him as if they were the ancient Jews thronging upon the Saviour so many centuries ago in the hills of Galilee were anything like their grandparents thronging for a certain infamous dead Austrian Corporal more than 60 years ago.

But, the world likes an autocrat with nice teeth and who speaks (erm) reads a Teleprompter well: and especially so if he is such a man who will weaken (if not destroy) America from its place on the world stage.

I never cared too much what the rest of the world supposedly thinks. As long as we have a big illegal alien problem, we don't have a foreign image problem worth giving a hoot about. The ones risking it all and voting with their feet speak a lot louder than those whining at home.
