Came across an interesting item, again for TFR - sorry. But it certainly plays here.
Seventy-one percent of adult respondents to a recent survey by Cars.com supported domestic drilling as a way to help lower gasoline prices. The survey included 1058 individuals.
an alarming number of people (71%) responded that they would support increased oil drilling in the U.S. to lower gas prices.
See the rest - issue advantage - no one. That removes any ideological skew from the result - Americans support increased domestic drilling. Take that Sierra Club.
But this bit below from the email can is priceless. From the McCain people. I wonder if those air gauges can also measure the hot air coming out of Obama's snout? ha!
WOODBRIDGE, NJ -- U.S. Senator John McCain's presidential campaign today announced that New Jersey McCain supporters will rally at a gas station in Ocean Township, N.J., on Saturday, August 2nd at 1:30 p.m. EDT. This rally follows statements made by Barack Obama this week that his solution to the energy crisis is making sure Americans properly inflate their tires. Supporters plan to distribute tire gauges to help test this "comprehensive" plan.

Yes, oh wise pundit. But who's going to support drilling in their back yards? Go down to the east coast - to Disney World and Myrtle Beach - and see how many people want an oil dereck off their million-dollar piece of coastal property.

Does the guy in El Paso support off-shore drilling? Sure. Does the guy in Kansas? Why not. How about the guy with a patio overlooking prime drilling ocean water in flip-state Florida? I somehow doubt it.
"-- Other Florida GOPers, however, reiterated their opposition. "Our energy policy should not completely disregard the importance of protecting our natural resources and the environment," said Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen in a statement, noting that her district includes a marine sanctuary with one of the largest coral reefs in the world. "We must continue to protect and preserve our economic interests by safeguarding against near-shore drilling." Among the other state Republicans who rejected McCain's position: Rep. Vern Buchanan, who represents the coastal city of Sarasota, and the incoming Speaker of the Florida House, Ray Sansom. --"

They should give it a rest already: It isn't like these new platforms will actually be visible from the beach... they'll most likely be several miles off shore.

Moe, a very careful reader: ""We must continue to protect and preserve our economic interests by safeguarding against near-shore drilling."
Focus on "near-shore drilling", Moe. Any meaning getting into that mind of yours, over-layered for years by the slag of seething, boiling political emotion.

We'll see how the Senators from Georgia, Florida, and the Carolinas vote. How about that? I'd be surprised if you can even swing the Senators from Alabama and Mississippi.

Well I can't say much for Disney World...If anyone sees an offshore derek from Orlando it'd be one big ass mofo considering how far it is from the coast. Who cares about geography when you have a ponit to make right? Now Myrtle Beach, I can be there in 45 minutes and guess what. The people who know what they're talking about....would be very happy to support drilling. Others, we call them dumbasses locally, don't understand that a) you couldn't see the dereks from shore, on the highest building with binoculars and 2) They'd be on the other side of the gulf stream and the unlikely oil spill would be disapated before it made it to the beaches. So the whole NIMBY argument on the east coast is sorta moot.

SO unless they flip-flop or change their minds (whatever we're calling it today) Burr and Dole support drilling off of NC. Aunt Libby wants all sorts of caveats to support Alt-Energy and all I know about Burr is that he supports drilling. Now that dimwit who is running against Dole is against drilling because making auto makers squeeze another 4 mpg out of a vehicle would have saved us from this mess....cute huh? "Let's do nothing about being hip deep in the swamp because someone else shoulda dug a ditch years ago."
