They're going to have to find a new origin for the word liberal as clearly liberalis simply doesn't apply any longer.
The Moveon.org stoked current and sure to be on going call to silence the AP's Ron Fournier for daring to suggest the Obamessiah's pick of Joe Biden displayed a lack of confidence began yesterday with this little gem. You would have thought they'd at least of buried the link to AATCN:
AP's Ron Fournier may command speaking fees of up to $10,000
The Washington Bureau Chief of the Associated Press, Ron Fournier, may command speaker's fees of up to $10,000 per appearance.
As of this writing, Fournier appears to be available for booking through the All American Talent & Celebrity Network's website. I called to confirm that he was still listed with the agency, but I haven't heard back yet.
When you click through it, assuming one has enough intelligence to click onward to the appropriate category in their long list of available speakers, among others you'll find: Andrea Mitchell, Bill Moyers, Bob Schieffer, Charlie Rose, David Broder, E. J. Dionne, Jr., Eleanor Clift, Ellen Goodman, Eric Alterman, Helen Thomas, Margaret Carlson, ... well, you get the drift.
I say let's join up with the Left and hang 'em all!!! Or not....
What I would really like to see is for the media to finally start pointing out this growing tendency of the Left to close down any opposition. You'd think they would, as clearly a free media has much to lose should these idiots ever gain too much power in America. And that is precisely what they seek. And they now see Barack Obama as the path to acquire it.
That, above all else, might just be the best rationale for defeating Obama this year - assuming you value freedom at all.

Moveon is waging the wrong fight on this one. How is Obama's pick of Biden any different than W's pick of Cheney? W was a inexperienced Governor of a state with a very weak governorship, he had zero credibility internationally and didn't even know who half the leaders of the world were. Cheney was added to the ticket to give him gravitas. Clearly Obama doesn't need the help as much as W did but ultimately the choice was a wise one. Those that will try and paint Biden as an insider simply haven't been following his career. Meanwhile McCain continues to try to paint himself as a "maverick" all while following lockstep along with W. It's sad really. I used to like McCain, he used to have a sole. I didn't agree with him on many issues and his stance on the MLK thing was shameful at best. But he seemed to believe in his stances. Now all those stances have changed and it seems only for expediency. After he got his tail whipped by W and Rove in 2000 he seemed to have lost all will to challenge the status quo of his party.

Jane Humpsher, Hair-trigger Jane, I calls her, is always among the first firedogs to explode, even when handled gently. When Obama fails to be elected (Americans don't like these illiberals) she will really go ape and accuse the majority of American voters of being KKK members.
As for Spart: "W was a[sic, I guess Spart is preparing a lesson plan for his Dalton school class and was distracted] inexperienced Governor of a state with a very weak governorship...", there is no comparison between the experience of being a governor and being a legislator when one is a candidate for POTUS. Governors actually manage a large organization and lead. Legislators manage a small staff of eggheads and vote, some of them even vote "present" a lot.

Spart, I think your colleagues at the Dalton School would prefer that you change sole to soul.
Posted by: Fred Beloit | Sunday, August 24, 2008 at 11:34 AM
I was referring to his Ferragamos.
Posted by: Spartan112 | Sunday, August 24, 2008 at 11:39 AM
At least get the school right pantload.
Posted by: Spartan112 | Sunday, August 24, 2008 at 11:40 AM
Thanks for the clarification, Spart. Are these what you wear when you teach at Dalton?
Posted by: Fred Beloit | Sunday, August 24, 2008 at 11:42 AM
Yeah that's right, I'm a teacher and I own Ferragamos. Everyone knows we're just leaching off of society.

Shocker: Spart Doesn't Teach at Dalton
"Tuition Rates
Tuition for the 2007-2008 academic year is as follows:
First Program (Grade K-3) $30,650
Middle School (Grades 4-8) $31,200

The full cost of books and lunch is included in the annual tuition. Depending on a student's interests and needs, there may be some additional incidentals with an extra cost.

An independent school education is a significant investment in your child's future, and we realize that affording a Dalton education can be a challenge for many families. Dalton recognizes..."

I never accused you of leaching, of being wrong in your politics yes, but not leaching.
Posted by: Fred Beloit | Sunday, August 24, 2008 at 11:52 AM
What's your point in bringing up Dalton? Yes, it's more expensive (and exclusive) than the school I teach at. Of course given the realities of the differences in cost of living between NYC and Massachusetts, the tuition of my school would be in the ballpark of Dalton (and more for 7 day boarding students). My initial point was that vouchers wouldn't pay a significant portion of the tuition at many independent schools, you haven't challenged the accuracy of that statement.

Truly scary. We don't agree with a reporter's analysis piece so lets get him fired. Wow, if this is the change that's coming, count me out. I'm not huge McCain supporter but I'm terrified by the Obamamaniacs at Moveon and FireDogLake. You know what? I bet Fournier drives an SUV too and may even be a gasp... climate change skeptic. He might even own a firearm. Fire him for that too.
No sense of perspective, insight or objectivity at all at Moveon or firedoglake. History has proven again and again that the far left is just as dangerous to free speech as the far right. I wish they would realize that.
Hey Hillary supporters, is Obama really want you want? Help us get McCain elected and give Hillary another shot in four years.

My point? You directed this to another commenter: "...your kids couldn't get into the school I teach at." Naturally I had to deflate your pomposity just a little. Nothing personal, just business.
Posted by: Fred Beloit | Sunday, August 24, 2008 at 12:13 PM
Aha, I see the problem Fred...my initial post on the subject read "Voucher WOULD cover the cost of most private schools"...that should have read "WOULDN'T". Clearly my fingers are moving quicker than my brain this morning (make whatever joke you wish out of that softball).

Oh, I forgot to mention that I have a close relative who is a teacher there.

Wait, so now you need to leap to the defense of other posters? I don't know if you noticed but I didn't attack anyone personally until I was attacked. That's how I operate.

"Oh, I forgot to mention that I have a close relative who is a teacher there."
So?

Sorry we are a bit off topic, Dan S., Spart and I just making a few adjustments.

So that's why I am familiar with it.

Oh, a real straight shooter. Very admirable, but here peeks out a little more pomposity.

You seem to have missed the point which is not a surprise.
From Steve Benen... ...in context, Fournier's objectivity covering the presidential race continues to look shaky. We are, after all, talking about a journalist who, as recently as last year, considered working for the McCain campaign.
Before Ron Fournier returned to The Associated Press in March 2007, the veteran political reporter had another professional suitor: John McCain's presidential campaign.
In October 2006, the McCain team approached Fournier about joining the fledgling operation, according to a source with knowledge of the talks. In the months that followed, said a source, Fournier spoke about the job possibility with members of McCain's inner circle, including political aides Mark Salter, John Weaver and Rick Davis.
We learned not too long ago that Fournier exchanged emails with Karl Rove about Pat Tillman, in which Fournier wrote, "The Lord creates men and women like this all over the world. But only the great and free countries allow them to flourish. Keep up the fight." Fournier was also one of the journalists who, at a gathering of the nation's newspaper editors, extended McCain a box of his favorite donuts ("Oh, yes, with sprinkles!" McCain said).
It's led to a series of AP reports that can, at best, be described as "questionable."

Honk honk. No, Harpo, you don't get the point. You nuts are wadded up the crack about an editorial, not a news report. You yourself just implied he is an editor. "Fournier was also one of the journalists who, at a gathering of the nation's newspaper editors,..." Isn't an editor allowed to write editorials? "No, we must hempsherize this bold, brazen opinion writer."
Half of the anchors and pundits on television have worked for the Dems at one time or another. There is nothing new or novel about it, except that this guy appears to have some conservative or at least Repub views.

I was very pleased with Mr. Fournier's story and that it ran on Yahoo news all day right after the Biden announcement. How refreshing to read something insightful instead of the usual boilerplate boring stories that are trotted out. I did take notice of this story though and thought that is different from the usual kind of story AP would normally put out. I say good for Mr.Fournier. Keep it up. Don't cave in to the anti free speech crowd.

Wrong! Next Topic!
Seriously, Fournier is Bureau Chief not an editor. in this piece...
http://news.yahoo.com/story/ap/20080823/ap_on_el_ge/veepstakes_analysis
He's listed as a writer, not an editor but he does editorialize in the piece.
"The picks say something profound about Obama: For all his self-confidence, the 47-year-old Illinois senator worried that he couldn't beat Republican John McCain without help from a seasoned politician willing to attack. The Biden pick is the next logistical step in an Obama campaign that has become more negative — a strategic decision that may be necessary but threatens to run counter to his image."
This is also incredibly telling from an internal newsletter at the AP:
"The AP's hard-earned reputation for fairness and nonpartisanship must not be used as an excuse for fuzzy language when a clear voice is demanded, nor should it force us to give both sides of a story equal play when one side is plainly wrong."

"--- I used to like McCain, he used to have a sole... ---"
He still has those Ferragamos, no? Hence the perpetual and tiresome remarks about his footwear?
So he likes $500 shoes. The man obviously has money and decent taste in footwear.

"The AP's hard-earned reputation for fairness and nonpartisanship..." ahkkk!!
How can anyone with a hint of credibility even write the preceeding statement without choking on their own words!
To believe this statement "would require a willing suspension of disbelief"

Ah, another criticism-of-speech = anti-free-speech whine. Remember kids, it's fascist to point out winger lies generally, and to point out that the media is in the bag for St. McMaverick. It has to be. Otherwise wingers would be forced to run on issues, which is worse than anything Hiter ever did. Plus St. McSame was a P.O.W. So, pointing out that he cheated on his severely injured wife with with a thieving pill addict / beer heiress, is also fascism.
McCain 08': Noun. Verb. P.O.W.

"What he really has is good taste in sugarmommas."
I don't know. Cindy's drug abuse, and thieving from children's charaties appear to have rendered it impossible for her to keep track of her siblings: http://www.nydailynews.com/news/politics/2008/08/20/2008-08-20_youre_no_only_child_cindy_mccains_forgot.html
Remember, kids, "values" don't apply to GOPers. As a matter of fact, it's fascist to suggest otherwise!!

"--- What he really has is good taste in sugarmommas. ---"
Or rich (relatively young, but certainly not immature) cougars. But I reckon we should not judge McCain's adultery too harshly, lest our own sins be brought forward to judge us.
It might be worthwhile to know if McCain ever repented of his adultery before the Lord and made Jesus Christ his Lord...
...but there is one candidate without any marital indiscretions, or histories of drug abuse and general corruption:
Dr. Chuck Baldwin.
