It's going to be very interesting to watch Obama's rock-star-like outdoor speech at the Dem convention. As I suggested awhile back - the celebrity ad attacks by McCain weren't simply designed to hurt Oh...bama now - but to also set a land mine in his path as he moved toward his formal deification as the The One.
Now with the Pew Poll coming out - the leader of Georgia addressing McCain by name ... not Obawon ... he and his fellow Dems really run the risk of over playing their hand. After weeks of being attacked for being just a celebrity - he's going to take the stage and make himself out to be just that.
Yes, I imagine he'll wow people with his rhetorical ability. Problem is, Obama's speeches really don't hold up very well over time. Their lack of substance causes them to evaporate.
Can you really remember one line, one substantive point from his world changing speech on race? Did he change anything at all?
Quite a challenge he has set for himself. Maybe he is up to it, or maybe unlike in Iraq, the Big O tosses up a brick. I'm unconvinced America wants a rock star without a resume for president.

Ever think the leader of Georgia mentioned McSame by name because of the financial connection to a chief adviser in his campaign?

The Truce is off (as if the Russkies ever took it seriously).
The Annexation of the Georgian SSR is now underway.

So, wait? Are we still running on the "Barack Obama is too popular to become President" meme?
"-- I'm unconvinced America wants a rock star without a resume for president. --"
That's what they said about Reagen.

Not one freaking word Dan. But I do know that it should be used to teach all of the school kids about race in America because Chris Matthews told me so. I think he compared it to Lincoln's Gettysberg Address.
While it sent a tingle up Chris' leg it only sends a shiver up my spine when I think of this Bozo possibly being POTUS though. A cold, what next shiver like a scary horror movie, only this is real!

McCain immediately made a statement of support for a free nation with an elected government while the rock star had to mumble and fumble until they selected the correct foreign policy advisor (out of over 300) who had a clue as to where Georgia was to put a statement on the teleprompter for Hussein to read.
I think the mayor of Atlanta got thousands of phone calls from the Hussein lackies wanting to know what part of Georgia had fallen to the Castro invasion. Not that it matters, the democrats would have been looking for someone to surrender to.

What a ridiculous statement. Over time? Speeches are reflected upon over years, not months. What was reagans defining speech? Mr. Gorbachev, tear down that wall"...big deal. anything else?

No...McCain immediately made a statement, the bulk of which was plagiarized from Wikipedia...at least we know he can find his way onto the internets.

"--- What was reagans defining speech? Mr. Gorbachev, tear down that wall"...big deal. anything else? ---"
There was also the evil empire speech, which seems to be as accurate then as now.
And my personal fave:
"My fellow Americans... I am pleased to tell you today that I've signed legislation that will outlaw Russia forever. We begin bombing in five minutes."
Classic Ronaldus Maximus Reagan!

"---
Sometimes, these actions have worn a thin disguise of tax law enforcement or "peacekeeping." "Democracy" has been a similar camouflage for an authoritarian system in which power and wealth increasingly gather in the hands of Prime Minister Vladimir Putin and other siloviki (or former intelligence bureaucrats). But although the siloviki know how to seize property, they have no idea how to create wealth. They generally mismanage what they seize - and so eventually need to seize more.

Hmmm. Sounds like the Democratic Party here in the USA.

Dunno about how it would play today, but at the time, it was a joke Reagan made, that the Soviets didn't exactly receive well... for obvious reasons.
