You'll want to read this item by Stanley Kurtz somewhat suggesting how the Obama's were able to build a pipeline of raw young talent to support activist causes in which they're also involved. But this is priceless. Public Allies notes that when Michelle Obama became it's founding Executive Director in Chicago, Barack was no longer on the board. Yeah but ... could you be any more obvious, geesh?
And for the 1,000th time - she's not technically a lawyer, dammit. Though, surprisingly, if you research around - all the women she worked with under Daley and still to this day at the Chicago hospital are. And I still find it interesting that she allowed the license to lapse, especially now after reading how she mostly worked for and next to other lawyers over the years. Just look up names like Valerie Jarrett or Susan Sher to confirm that. Ms. Obama worked with all lawyers is friends with mostly lawyers, yet she let her credential go. Why?
When Vanessa Kirsch was working in the early 1990s to create a new organization to train young people for public service, she recalls, people kept telling her: "There's this guy in Chicago; you've got to meet with him."
That "guy" was a civil-rights lawyer and community organizer named Barack Obama — the future U.S. senator and Democratic presidential contender, who ended up playing a critical role in the group that Ms. Kirsch co-founded, Public Allies.
Mr. Obama attended a conference that laid the groundwork for Public Allies, and he joined the group's founding board. When Public Allies, which started operating in Washington, decided to open an office in Chicago, Ms. Kirsch says, Mr. Obama suggested the group interview his wife, Michelle.
Ms. Obama, a Harvard-educated lawyer who was then assistant commissioner of planning and development for the city of Chicago, agreed to become the first executive director of Public Allies Chicago in spring 1993 — and Ms. Kirsch says that was a turning point for the fledgling organization."It was a big deal we got her," Ms. Kirsch says. "The organization went from sort of 'This could be here today, gone tomorrow, very precarious, very startup' to 'This is serious, we're going to be around for the long haul.'"

According to Illinois Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission, Michelle Obama voluntarily changed to inactive status. All she has to do to return to active status and practice law is file a motion with the Illinois Supreme Court for restoration to active status.

So, she still is an Illinois lawyer, but is on inactive status.

Dan,
I cannot understand your obsession with Mrs. Obama letting her law license become inactive. So what?
1) She's not running for any office
2) It's be hard to be a more worthless first lady than Laura Bush
3) The alternative choice for first lady stole drugs from her own charity
And just for giggles, what exactly are some of Laura Bush's accomplishments as first lady?

She served as a conventionally attractive hat rack and model wife.
Michelle O. on the other hand, looks like a creepy, vengeful harpy who just might pull out a knife and cut you up if you give her the slightest provocation. That, and she likes to exchange scary al-Qaeda fist-bumps with her collaborators.
