I Don't Think It's A Vetting Issue

I mentioned this general topic in email to a friend and blogger today. Now Ed at Hot Air and others have been pointing out what they believe to be a vetting issue with Obama's camp - the last pertinent incident being the resignation of Mazan Asbahi. That was my first thought, as well.

The big story isn’t so much how Asbahi would have been a threat to the US as a member of Obama’s campaign (answer: not much), but in how inept Obama and his team are at background checks. These will be the same people who appoint people to government posts if Obama wins the election. How many of these “mistakes” will occur then? Competence usually comes with experience, and Obama doesn’t demonstrate much of either.

After more thought, I am now wondering if this isn't more about perspective, or world view, than it is about vetting. I joked with someone today - I think they knew of this and his earlier association with the MSA and thought it proved he was active and engaged ... etc. And better the MSA as a college student than a Boyscout as a kid ... who knows how that would have sat with the LGT#%^@ whatever it is lobby.

Nope, I think they were fine with Mr. Asbahi. They just had no idea how the issue might play out. The Left is out of touch with the thinking on main street America. And I now believe - that, more than anything else caused the problem. YMMV
