q: "How in the hell does an official national holiday get replaced with [Eid al-Fitr]"
- original post

a: "This isn't a religious accommodation, this is a contractual agreement. The majority asked for it."
- quote from the linked article.

I think it happened because of democracy.

Is it really a big deal that a national holiday was changed? What if a different plant with a non-muslim majority voted to just move Labour Day ahead a week for some logistical reason - would we see this post? Or is it the fact that it was changed to a muslim holiday that makes everyone upset?

Moldy

"I think it happened because of democracy."

Democracy created the national holiday. Mob rule is what changed it.

Hi PA,

I believe the workers at the plant voted on the issue and the majority of them were in favour of the change. I would be interested in reading an explanation as to how this equates to "mob rule".

Moldy

I suspect it was a mutually beneficial agreement:

I've read that in recent years there has been a significant influx of Muzzies into Arkansas (!) and that they typically do not even need to be a majority. Typically, the Muzzie minority will screech and squeal loud enough to get their accommodations, and once an inch is given, the mile is sure to come.

The Tyson Chicken Factory probably saw $$$ in the deal though: why close the plant down on Labour Day if there were plenty of Muzzie labourers willing to work that day in exchange for getting Eat-Fluffer-Nutter Day so they could feast before their idol "Allah", the false moon god (really a demonic idol)?

We will have to see where this goes: how soon will it be until there is an insistence on Halal food at the company cafeteria, and prayer rooms, and a specially designated Muzzein to screech his call to idolatrous worship over the PA system... as well as specially pointed-to-Mecca prayer rooms with prayer rugs and ritual footwash stations...?

And the rub with all this rubbish coming out of Tyson ChixLand is that if I were a wagering man, I'd bet that they wouldn't even hear of having a Baptist preacher come on site or have some King James bibles in a specially appointed fellowship room, much less start the day off with a prayer to the True God and Saviour, Jesus Christ.

So, if I am employed at an American plant and my spouse is employed at this mosque (Tyson), we now can't celebrate of have the time off together. Swell, the balkinization of national holidays. Great idea, moldy.

"...or have"

moldy hearts democracy. What is more democratic than a boycott? Let's see, Tyson sells products, does it not?

From Wiki: "to boycott (third-person singular simple present boycotts, present participle boycotting, simple past and past participle boycotted)
1. To abstain, either as an individual or group, from using, buying, or dealing with someone or some organisation[sic] as an expression of protest."

Where I work the management took Dec 31st away and gave us MLK day off. The thing is we only had one minority worker in an office of about 21. There was no vote, nor did I hear anyone asking for this day off. I worked side by side with the minority worker and they were just as puzzled by the change. Kind of putting the cart before the horse.

Anyway, why can't they have the employees pick which day they would like off, but not both. That way both "sides" are accomodated.

"Anyway, why can't they have the employees pick which day they would like off, but not both. That way both "sides" are accomodated[sic]."

No. No accommdation. No more balkinization. Assimilation, please. Thank you.

Oh wow. I misread Dan's post: I thought that Tyson's Chick-o-Mosque-oMatic™ was granting an either-or replacement of the days (as in Muzzies get their eat-a-fat-goat day off, and everyone else gets Labour Day).

This is worse than I thought, and is nothing short of foolishness: why should non-muslims lose Labour Day for a idol's holiday?

Indeed, assimilation is far better than balkanization by accommodation.

"I've read that in recent years there has been a significant influx of Muzzies into Arkansas (!) and that they typically do not even need to be a majority.

Really? "Read" where in "recent years"?

"Typically, the Muzzie minority will screech and squeal loud enough to get their accommodations" ....

Yeah? Prove it. If this practice is as "typical" as you claim, you should have no problem.

Unless you're making it up.

"why should non-muslims lose Labour Day for a idol's holiday?"

Because that's what they *bargained for*, princess. They didn't *lose* anything they weren't willing to give up in return for valuable consideration. This arrangement was made by contract. You know what contracts are, right guys? Why do you hate the right of persons making $27k per year to enter into agreements regarding commercial matters?

Morons.

Hi Seek,

Your following point about provinding other religious services is a good one.

"I'd bet that they wouldn't even hear of having a Baptist preacher come on site ..."

They discuss this at the bottom of the linked article. I believe that they said they consider every religious requests on a case by case basis and would be open to other religious services. However to this point, no one had requested a Christian (or other religious) prayer area or service.

I too would like to see some background on your point below.

"I've read that in recent years there has been a significant influx of Muzzies into Arkansas (!) and that they typically do not even need to be a majority."

Moldy

Those opposed to this are looking at it the wrong way. Instead of whining, embrace it to your own advantage. For example, call on employers to give everyone paid leave for the entire month of Ramadan, in recognition of your Muslim brothers and sisters.

Hi Fred,

I think boycotting Tyson products is your right and I wouldn't have a problem with it.

As for your hypothetical problem with your wife working at Tyson, I would suggest that you get together at your plant and see if you can negotiate to get the Eid al-Fitr holiday off - then you and your spouse could spend it together ;)

"--- Really? "Read" where in "recent years"? ---"

Well, ya gots me, ya dashing Totally Ambiguous Bisexual Walnut!

I actually do not remember where I read that nugget about Arkansan Islamic migrants, back around 2005 or 2006. It may have been on JihadWatch or "Gates of Vienna" or another such similar site which I can't think of at the moment.

But the fact that 700/1200 of these employees are Somali Muslims leads one to think that there has been a noteworthy uptick in Muslims coming to live in and around Little Rock in recent years.

And tell me that "majority rules" in the labour union dealings, but why not opt for something flexible, where muzzies can have their wicked day of bowing and scraping before their merciless moon demon, and the rest of the American workers who do not wish to honour that brutal "god" get to go to cookouts and other nice, American, family-centric functions?

A spilt would allow the factory to go on manufacturing their hormonally charged poultry products, and not have to shut down the line all the way.

Or better still, leave Labour Day alone, and have the employees have the option of taking Christmas, which honours the Saviour-King Jesus Christ, OR honouring that wicked and false god (demon) Allah.

"I've read that in recent years there has been a significant influx of Muzzies into Arkansas (!) and that they typically do not even need to be a majority'

Muzzies? How's your slope wife? And don't forget the half-breed kid. What a bunch of defectives!

"Muzzies? How's your slope wife?"

Hmmm "muzzie" is not necessarily a derogtory term for someone's religion while "slope" is a well known racist derogitory term. So once again, a racist xenophobe sticks his ugly head from under his white hood.

Hi Seek,

I agree with you that giving the employees the choice of day to take off seems better. Maybe it is not feasible from an operations point of view? I wonder if that approach came up at negotiations? And if it did, which side would have been against it? I wouldn't think the muslim community would care either way.

As for the influx of muslims in Arkansas, I don't doubt that you read it somewhere. You seem like an honest person. However, you have been on here long enough to know that you can't make statements like that without some sort of source. A majority of muslims at a plant does not neccessarily equate to a recent influx and can send discussion off on an erroneous tangent.

"--- Muzzies? How's your slope wife? ---"

She's fine, thanks very much for asking, "Nelson" (though I suspect your nick is yet another sockpuppet for a certain traveller here at RWV, and not the famous Admiral who met his brave end at Trafalgar)

"--- And don't forget the half-breed kid. What a bunch of defectives! ---"

The kiddo's doing fine as well, doing some modelling jobs here and there. Look for him in the next big Gap Kids layout. I dare say he has benefited greatly from the mixing of European-American and Japanese DNA; mixing of races actually helps broaden the gene pool.

Though I perceive that your attack is not meant in a nice way, as if to revenge the sake of those muzzies I've insulted, I find that the epithet "muzzie", used to describe not anyone of specific race or nationality, but rather those particularly virulent and inflammatory Islamists who look at the world behind a detonator button and a pack of IEDs.

So yeah, it ain't "PC", and I do not plan on treating them with any great empathy so long as they have made themselves to be enemies of this Republic.

Heeelllooooo, moldy. It is great to read a calm, dispassionate and conservative plea for a money-saving proposition. Congratulations on your temperate efforts on behalf of a great new boon for businesses, especially large ones. If all large businesses would just allow employees to pick their own holidays based on religion, where possible, these businesses would save a lot of money.

Here's why. Chosen vacation days don't cost companies any money. The work of a vacationing employee goes on, it is just picked up by one or more other employees. Did you know that, moldy? Closing up for a holiday, however, does cost money because no work gets done and productivity and efficiency suffer. No products are manufactured.

There is only one little problem with your idea. Tyson is going to continue to take the hit when the Muslim majority all take off on the same religious holiday. Christians and Jews may do the same with their holydays. You can't foist off the work of a majority or large block of the work force on the minority left on the job. Bad deal for Tyson. (The Government workers won't be able to do this either, separation of church and state.)
My advice? Sell.

By the way, moldy, I wonder if you have considered the dangers of voting in the workplace. What if the majority were Christian and they voted that no special choices be allowed for the Muslim religion regarding accommodations?

Hey, seek, it is interesting that the slime-ball bigot didn't even have the guts to use his real moniker, not to mention his name.

Hi Fred,

I have no idea what strategy would cost the Tyson plant more. I know nothing about operational management. I assume the management and the union took all that into consideration during negotiations.
