Geesh - happened across this for TFR. What's next in nanny-state-landia, taking college classes for them, too? From Connecticut:
Parents of those obtaining a learner’s permit must attend two hours of instruction on teen-driving laws before their teen takes his or her driving test.

I wonder if John McSame has a house in Connecticut?? Oh wait, he DOESN'T KNOW!!!
Way to keep in touch, old timer!

Imagine that. An effort to reduce teen traffic fatalities.
What'll they think of next. Speed limits? Drunk driving laws?
Put the bong away. You're losing it.

How exactly does a mandatory 2 hour 'class' for PARENTS have anything to do with reducing teen driving fatalities? Nothing more than mindless bureacratic meddling and probably a precurser to suing parents if their children break any 'teen driving laws' so the state can get more money off law abiding citizens.

I was way ahead of the nanny stater's.
Took my kids out on the back roads of N.C. when they about twelve years old and let them drive.
By the time they were 16 and old enough to get a learners permit they already knew how to power slide through a curve. Both got an A in Drivers Ed and on their driving test.

Think about it you nitwit. Might it help a teen driver if the parent knew the traffic laws as it pertains to teen drivers. You know, kind of like a law that the teen driver needs to be accompanied by a licensed parent or guardian during the learning process.
And I'm sure your against the republican sponsored sobriety checkpoints where you need to stop and prove your innocence for no reason other than you are out driving.
Dark, dark days for America with the right wingers still taken seriously by 25% of the population.

I for one salute my leaders of the Constitution State. To think what heartache and carnage might have been avoided if Laura Bush's parents had attended such a class. Yes, patriots - what if???
Also, when you heroes finish counting the old man's houses, please let me know. I'd say the over is 8.
Semper Fi!

The Sock Puppet takes a cheap shot at Laura Bush here and Cindy McCain on one of the other threads.
Nothing meaningful to add to the discussion just keeping up the troll tradition of the one line zingers and reciting the favorite Daily Koz talking points!
Yea, the house is doing fine thanks! I'm sure there are plenty of marines out there that would like to meet a loser like you and your alter ego Chris in the back of a good old redneck bar to share stories of your love of country and respect of their service that helps keep your sorry ass safe here at home.
And the return of Harpo brings out:
"Put the bong away"
followed with the ever well thought out and endearing
"Think about it you nitwit"
You have a serious preoccupation with drug use and posting when your drunk!
Sock Puppet needs a psychiatrist to figure out just who the hell he is and you need drug intervention!
But please both of you continue to share your hatred with us all we need to have a good laugh and you two never fail to disappoint!

Bringing in the parents into driver's ed isn't a bad idea, really. Parents should be the first to really teach their kids how to handle heavy traffic and sub-optimal driving conditions. It can help encourage accountability between parents and children as well, to say nothing of perhaps giving a bit of a refresher (needed or not) to parents whose current knowledge of the "rules of the road" just might be a tad rusty.

Congratulations on leading America yet again. I wouldn't even bother cutting the grass if I were you.
And thanks for sharing your angry, vaguely gay military hero story. I'm thinking that these warriors could use the storyline in an upcoming production.

I know I would need a refresher to be able to answer some of the written questions on a driver's license exam with 100% certainty.(how many feet away from a fire hydrant, for example). It certainly cannot be anything but positive for people to attend a program such as this with their offspring. It is also an opportunity to share an experience with them without its being an "I'm outta here" event.

NO, PARENTS KNOWING THE TRAFFIC THE LAWS WILL HAVE NO EFFECT ON TEEN FATALITIES. TEENS ALREADY KNOW ITS ILLEGAL TO SPEED, RUN STOP LIGHTS AND DRINK AND DRIVE, JUST LIKE PARENTS DO. SO, FAR, THIS HASN'T STOPPED TEEN FATALITIES SO I DOUBT 2 HOURS HEARING ABOUT HOW THE LEARNERS PERMIT PROCESS WORKS WILL HAVE ANY EFFECT.
And I'm sure your against the republican sponsored sobriety checkpoints where you need to stop and prove your innocence for no reason other than you are out driving.
INDEED I AM AGAINST ROADBLOCKS OF THAT NATURE AS WELL AS NO KNOCK SEARCH WARRANTS, BEING STRIP SEARCHED AT THE AIRPORT AND HAVING POLICE OR OTHER 'OFFICIALS' RIFFLE THROUGH MY BELONGINGS BECAUSE I HAPPEN TO BE ON A SUBWAY OR A PLANE. PROBABLE CAUSE IS A GOOD THING.

"Bringing in the parents into driver's ed isn't a bad idea, really." Perhaps, seek, but should it be mandatory? If the state government wants to experiment with citizens, the citizens should be paid for their time.
