A high-placed executive who would appear to be positioned to benefit from the move toward Hybrid car technology has come out and slammed US policy on the subject. She feels we're not being realistic about the limitations and work needed on the technology.
As an aside, some are speculating that Hybrids and Electric cars are a stop gap measure as we move toward the real future - Hydrogen. In TFR headlines, I linked a NY Times item on the Hydrogen Car Tour. I hope to be at the DC tour stop tomorrow, take lots of pics and also have an interview lined up and believe I'll be getting a chance to drive one of the prototypes.
If all goes well, I'll have that report up at TFR on Friday morning.

Here's a perfect example (keep with it until the end) of it doesn't matter so much what you drive as how you drive it:

This might be the future:

That VW in Draegn's link looks pretty slick, but its strength is only as a personal commuter. It would discourage the teens from trying to make out in that car due to its tandem layout, but kids these days are quite creative when it comes to that sort of thing.
But for schlepping the kids to their soccer match, or moving bulky objects, there will still be a need for mini-vans, sedans, and the dreaded SUV.
A good compromise seems to be that rash of ugliness yet bristling with utility, that Scion boxy-looking car that everyone seems to be buying these days.
