With upwards of 70% of Americans convinced increased domestic oil production may at least help bring down gasoline prices, the Congress became a calamity today as ham-fisted Democrats, led by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, squashed debate to cut and run on five-week paid vacations at home and even abroad in some cases - with all travel and gasoline expenses footed by American taxpayers, many of whom might just be staying home themselves this summer as a result of rising fuel prices.
With a party beholden to extreme environmentalist, who have stifled nuclear generation and increases in domestic oil production and refining for decades, the Democrats are in denial if they think the Republicans will not pull out all the stops to place the current gasoline situation squarely in their laps where it belongs.
Meanwhile over in the Senate, Democrats refused to support emergency measures for relief even if gasoline rose to the ridiculous price of $10 a gallon.
House Speaker Pelosi has as much as admitted that they fear debate as it will allow Republicans to place blame for the energy situation on Democrats:
“But Pelosi, who has opposed offshore drilling throughout her two decades in Congress, insists opening new areas to drilling won't lower gas prices in the short term. She believes a vote would only help the GOP blame Democrats for high gas prices.”
While over in the Senate, Senator Richard Burr, R-NC, made it clear the Democrats do not want the extreme positions of their prospective nominee exposed to scrutiny on the Energy issue by allowing debate on this critical issue. The needs of American taxpayers can wait, sorry, it's the political season, when Democrats do their best, if not their only real work.
From Colorado to Kansas, down to Kentucky and over to Louisiana, Democrats are on the defensive over gasoline and Energy issues and they might not get enough mileage in the air conditioned limousines with which they flee Congress for a paid vacation to escape the wrath of voters at this critical juncture brought about by rising fuel costs.

Dan, it seems like some Republicans have stayed in the House and are demanding that President Bush convene a special session. Let's get on the phones and start calling the White House for some support. We finally, finally see the Republicans coming out of the doldrums and showing some leadership. Why the hell haven't they done this before now? Of course, it's never too late to do the right thing. Hell, I can get excited about something like this.
Call your Congressman, demand a vote on drilling.

Templar is a fool. Templar knows the truth about drilling and he is just not sane any longer.
The oil companies have approved leases for 65,000 square MILES of fields - including off shore. They are ready to be drilled RIGHT NOW. Why is Templar not asking why they don't drill where they have already approved leases? Why not ask this simple question? because the oil companies are doing a land grab, not an oil drilling strategy, that is why.
Also, I know Templar is a Low Information Voter (it's just a fact), but I wonder if templar knows it will take 10 years to deliver one drop of oil from the leases - according to the US Government)? I wonder if he knows the price of gas would be impossible to speculate accurately because it will take ten years for the oil to find its way into a pump near you?
Templar is playing you all for the very same fool he is being played for by the GOP. Why would you stand by and be lied to? Why not do you own research and figure it out without a right side shill telling you lies?
This is your planet too. What are you going to do about? get lied to, or find your self respect and tell templar to fu(k off.
I hope I wasn't too harsh with you templar, but you are a fool and a shill for industries that are destroying the same planet you are standing on.

Jimbo, any energy policy that doesn't include increased drilling for oil among the other sources is stupid. Oil is not destroying the world. Get over your pompous self. We need to find feasible alternatives as soon as we can. In the meantime, drill now -- offshore and in ANWR.

If we continue to listen to idiots like jimbo we will all be in the same shape the United States House of Representatives is in, no electricity, no lights, no microphones and no civilization.
And jimbo, quote one lie I had in my comment. I challenge you to be a man and point out one lie. Just one.

Brother Knight,
I'm thinking it's time to amend the "Top 10 Moonbat Talking Points" to add the latest troll rant.
Our Bimbo friend informs us that:
"it will take 10 years to deliver one drop of oil from the leases" and who could forget one of San Fran Nans favorites,
"The oil companies have approved leases for 65,000 square MILES of fields - including off shore. They are ready to be drilled RIGHT NOW"
We might have to start a whole new "Top 10 Moonbat Energy Talking Points"
Maybe we should thank Bimbo for his use of the biggest cliches and they would have to be #'s 1 and 2 on the "Top 10 Moonbat Energy Talking Point" list.
I'm suprised he didn't use my choice for the #3 Moonbat Energy Talking Point "You can't drill your way out of this"
Barry himself provided #4 with his "Keeping your tires properly inflated will save the same amount of oil that any new drilling would provide"
#5 "New drilling won't do anything to the price of gas today"
Come on folks lets keep the list up to date with your own ideas. Lord knows I've only touched the surface with these first five.
George Soros has done a great job with his minions. They just keep using the same verbal diarrhea going until they actually get someone to believe them.

Jimbo, like San Fran Nan.... are now oil wildcatter experts. They just KNOW there is tons of oil in those 65,000 square miles of fields, so why would you listen to evil - world destroying - profit making (GASP!!!!!) - oil company experts whose job it is to get oil out of the ground??? National Geologist San Fran Nan won't have it! lol
The ten years comment is pure unadulterated BS, a sad and desperate argument thrown out by folk with delusions of grandeur who think they are "saving the planet". But thats too generous really, most of the global warming crowd don't really believe they are saving the planet... they play PRETEND like they are saving the planet - because its a CONVENIENT LIE that will make more people accept the new laws and controls they want to institute over peoples lives. A world ending type of crisis makes it sting a little less as they slowly steal American freedom... but of course its all for the sheeple's good you understand! Oil reserves have and CAN be brought online in less than two years. But even if you buy the big lie Jimbo is selling about it taking ten years... if Clinton could have pull his cigar out of Monica Lewinski a little earlier and not vetoed drilling in ANWR in 1998, we STILL wouldn't be in the mess would we Jimbo?
Hey Jimbo if you really think CO2 is causing global warming... why don't you just shoot yourself in the head, and quit exhaling buddy! Come on and live up to your covert support for terrorists.... show your guts... be a martyr for mother earth dude!! Someone can setup an online site for the new eco terrorist group Al Goreca... and we can post films of Jimbo's fiery explosion in an SUV dealership - putting his money where his mouth is. LOL
But no... Jim and Nan are really just gnashing their teeth that American Oil companies make 11 cents a gallon profit, and just can't wait to add more to the 50 to 60 cents the government takes out of every gallon. We can all just turn Amish (less the belief in God of course, and only the folks not fortunate enough to be in high places within the democratic party who NEED their energy because they are looking out for me and you!)

I don't know if you recall but Bog Oil is on record as not even wanting new refineries. In fact since the 70's they have reduced production voluntarily.

"Why is Templar not asking why they don't drill where they have already approved leases?"
Lease != oil
Only an idiot would drill holes where previous exploration showed there was none.

I heard the thing about the Alaska Pipeline. It would destroy the earth, would take ten years to build and would only supply oil from as little as 6 week to 6 month. It was built in a little over three years and is still suppling oil.
Oh yea, the Earth was not destroyed.

"--- I heard the thing about the Alaska Pipeline. It would destroy the earth, would take ten years to build and would only supply oil from as little as 6 week to 6 month. It was built in a little over three years and is still suppling oil. ---"
That probably comes from the same rumour mill as the taking ten years to build new oil platforms and getting that oil to market as well.
I have a sneaking suspicion that if oil companies are properly motivated (as in $$$) they just might have a field with some worthwhile amount of dinosaur juice in it ready and pumping inside of two or three years. Or perhaps less.
Now if it were the government doing it, what with dickering over contractors and federal labour unions, it could conceivably take ten if not twenty years to get anything out of the dirt.

Seek do you watch "Ice Road Truckers"? For some years the Canadians have been building platforms on ice each winter to explore for oil and gas. They put it up during the freeze and take it down before the thaw, leaving no trace but GPS coordinates......They must be smarter than us if it would take us ten years to punch one hole.

Willie, 1/3 to 1/2 of the time estimated to get oil flowing from ANWR has to do with getting paperwork done, i.e. oil and gas leases, environmental impact statements, court hearing, etc. The Congress could cut out the vast majority of these requirements and cut years off the time. Things could also be done simultaneously, such as drilling and building a pipeline, and that would cut the time as well. We could get the oil flowing a lot faster than what many think.
