Remember the shock and subsequent societal strains after the OJ verdict came in? Black America celebrated, while White America fumed.
Take a look at the process RS McCain calls Mississippification.
Schaller correctly concludes that it is highly unlikely that Obama is going to de-"Mississippify" the vote in the South. To which I would add, or anywhere else.
There is a very good chance that the media, liberals and Blacks will be expecting to wake up to the first Black POTUS one November morning, only to be shocked by the result. Think of it as the OJ verdict in reverse.
Could the supposedly first post-racial candidate trigger the largest racial divide in America since the Civil War?
Also, I can hardly wait to read the charges that the Republicans suppressed the Black vote that will be flying around this one. Won't that be a real surprise? Not!

Thoughtful analysis. The day after election day we will be told that Obama was doomed because of his race. It will not be because of his associates, his Marxism, his flip flops, his lies, the scandals, his nut job wife.
If anyone but McCain were running (I exclude his clones in the GOP like Huckabee, Warner, Specter, etc) thi should be a 45 state blowout.

Most amusing. The non-existent yellowcake WMD-maker has been reported transported.
"The removal of 550 metric tons of "yellowcake" _ the seed material for higher-grade nuclear enrichment _ was a significant step toward closing the books on Saddam's nuclear legacy. It also brought relief to U.S. and Iraqi authorities who had worried the cache would reach insurgents or smugglers crossing to Iran to aid its nuclear ambitions."

And for the bargain price of $1 trillion, 4,100 dead, and 25,000 wounded.
Mission accomplished!

Greetings patriots! I come to you from a well-deserved weekend at the family's summer homestead in the Ocean State! As I made the slow trek back on 95, I saw myself behind a rather old F-150 with North Carolina plates and a Bush/Cheney '04 sticker. As I passed this scarlet-necked troop-supporter and his brood, I had to chuckle at what his gas bill would be to get back to his home sweet trailer home.
Life is funny, patriots. Thank you all for your service and for keeping us FREE. Incidently, that old man is looking GREAT! He's quite the candidate!

Since we still aren't realizing the extent of the

Interesting story in the Wapo:
"In the six-and-a-half years that the U.S. government has been fingerprinting insurgents, detainees and ordinary people in Afghanistan, Iraq and the Horn of Africa, hundreds have turned out to share an unexpected background, FBI and military officials said. They have criminal arrest records in the United States."

Anne, I guess Harpo has introduced himself. He is one of Dan's cutest commenters. You will find he makes for a lot of fun. His most severe case of BDS does, however, limit to a great degree the rhetorical challenges he presents. For example:
"So we've back to where it was in March 2003, no al Qaeda in Iraq. And for the bargain price of $1 trillion..."
No matter how many times it has been pointed out to him that only Congress can provide and approve funds for war efforts, he keeps blaming one man. Really there must be a cure for BDS found soon. The toll it takes is tragic. So is the tool it takes. So is the troll it takes.

Hahaha! This is hilarious, Fred. I mean, we're talking some real "head-in-the-sand" happy talk, here. The Democrats are going to lose in November because they over-budget their convention? A sitting President raised $70 million in fund-raising while the losing Democratic Nominee was raising a third of that every month and was still being outpaced by her rival, and this means the Republicans are going to win the money game?
Laying the budget deficit on the Democrats' doorstep is cute too, given that the only legislation they can successfully pass has to win 60 vote bipartisan support in the Senate (that means no less than 10 GOoPer Senators) and survive a Bush veto. Remind me again what we're "wasting" all that money on again? How many billions in Iraq? How many billions more in the generic military budget? Didn't the GAO just release a report indicating that Pentagon pissed away $295 billion in over runs on military technology?
My goodness, they did!
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/03/31/AR2008033102789_pf.html
Damn those Democrats and their wasteful military spending!! Only John McCain and his legion of lobbyists (lead by Jesse Helms campaign advisor and military contractor lobbyist Charlie Black), can save us from our reckless spending by balancing the budget with cuts to... Social Security! That'll go over great in November.

Hmm...I think the Boob needs to ponder these facts.
1.Huge new natural gas find in north central Arkansas. 99% of the people getting all this money are hillbilly rednecks.
2.Huge new natural gas find in north Louisiana. 90% of the people getting this money are stump-jumping rednecks.
3.Huge new oil find in No. Dakota. 99% of the people getting all this money are red-state rednecks.
4.Oil and gas boom going on in the states of Arkansas, Louisiana, Texas, Oklahoma, Alabama, Mississippi, Wyoming and Colorado. All those rednecks making all that money.
No wonder the liberals are wanting to do away with oil and gas. They don't control it, or the wealth created by it. Greed and jealosy on the part of the liberals is behind quite a bit of their proposals. Hence, the windfall profit tax that was such a failure during Jimmah's reign is back on the Democratic platform.

Dog Vomit? So Erudite
His program in bullet points:
* Reduce Carbon Emissions 80 Percent by 2050
* Invest in a Clean Energy Future
* Support Next Generation Biofuels
* Set America on Path to Oil Independence
* Improve Energy Efficiency 50 Percent by 2030
* Restore U.S. Leadership on Climate Change
And from John McLaughlin:
McLaughlin: Let me…let me go ahead with this exit question and you can fill it in with your own point now.
Exit question: Is it too soon to conclude the following about the Bush/Cheney legacy?
One: They destroyed the GOP Congressional majority.
Two: Tanked the value of the dollar.
Three: Created unprecedented red ink in the federal budget.
Four: Drew us into a quagmire in Iraq.
Five: Left us with a recession and inflation.
Six: Then skedaddled out of town. The question is, is it too soon to conclude that the foregoing constitutes the Bush/Cheney legacy? Zuckerman

1. Reduce carbon emissions by 80% by 2050. There are a couple of things WRONG here, vomit breath. It can't and won't happen, and the Obama boy won't be around in 2050. Where the hell did he get that figure? Must have pulled it out of YOUR ass, for as much sense as it makes.
2. Invest in clean energy. We've been investing in clean energy for years. You dumb asses should know that. That's not new.
3. Support next generation biofuels. That is already being done. Again, nothing new.
4. Improve energy efficiency by 50% by 2030. LOL. He always sets his benchmarks for the far away future. Dream on, boy.
5. Restore US leadership on climate change. The climate is always changing, vomit eater. You global warming freaks never give up. The Democratic plan consists of "Quick, everybody, let's all go back 700 years where we can all gather around the village well and talk politics". You climate change boys are dangerous to civilization.
6. Set American on a path to oil independence. Oh, you've finally decided to drill in ANWR, and open up more of the coasts for drilling. That's the only sensible thing you've said.
Problem is, you didn't even say that. A vote for Obama is a vote for the reincarnation of Jimmah. And liberals are big believers in reincarnation.

1. Obama appears on Faux News. LMAO.
2. Obama, according to the LAT, wants to make a NASCAR appearance. LOL. We may make him a redneck yet.

"Obama boy" Letting your inner racist out today? Nice vocabulary - you must've been a terror on the playground.
Can't say as I care whether Obama goes on Fox or not. I'd go to Nascar if I were him too, especially since there's a ton of Republicans that hate what Bush has done to the country, so there's a huge upside for Obama. Siphon a few % off and it's a landslide. And gee, Obama's leading in Montana right now. Now THAT's funny.
As for Iraq, this is Obama's policy:
"Obama will immediately begin to remove our troops from Iraq. He will remove one to two combat brigades each month, and have all of our combat brigades out of Iraq within 16 months. Obama will make it clear that we will not build any permanent bases in Iraq. He will keep some troops in Iraq to protect our embassy and diplomats; if al Qaeda attempts to build a base within Iraq, he will keep troops in Iraq or elsewhere in the region to carry out targeted strikes on al Qaeda."

"--- As for Iraq, this is Obama's policy: ... ---"
Well now, if you can't see what our favourite Democraticic Manchurian Candidate REALLY thinks, you just might be blind in one eye, and nearsighted out of the other.
He's worse than ol' Mitt "Flippy Flop" Romney. Of course, he'll talk up a gradual withdrawal to make the Koskidz and the moonbat wing of the party (actually, the way the make noise, you'd think they were the fuselage)... to get them to the polls.
But Obambi has to court those bitter, gun-totin' Bible-clingin' ol' white crackas in the Mid West and Great Lakes states in order to seal the deal for '08.
The Blacks (weighing in at 12.5% of the electorate as a solid, monolithic vote for anything the Dems care to puke up as a candidate) and larger part of the Hispanic vote (weighing in at over 25% of the voters) cannot be trumped unless he can get all those disgruntled "Honkies for Hillary" and Union believers and possibly even some disgusted Republicans on board.
In order to do that, he has to play up to the NASCAR aficionados and gun-owners and to what might normally be considered the centre or even centre right of the American political spectrum.
Funny thing is watching all the hyper-progressives, socialists, and academic elitists jump out of their skins a bit when he does "cross the aisle".
Face it - you Kossacks are experiencing what many former FredHeads and Tancredo and Duncan Hunterites, as well as those of us who support the ideals of Ron Paul, Goldwater and Cal Coolidge - the chilling reality check that most of America lies in that murky area and often ill-informed segment that exists between the fringes or Right and Left.

"-- I read the Obama energy plan, and it was nothing more than dog vomit, the same old dog vomit Jimmah Carter gave us in 1980. --"
Haha. That's some in-depth critique. I will see your "Obama's energy plan is dog vomit" and raise you "McCain's fiscal policy is an exploded testicle". Your move.
But, no, seriously. McCain's fiscal policy is horrendous, as it seems to actually inflate spending with the assumption that nearly every other government function - from food and drug administration to infrastructure building to basic oversight administration - gets cut.
http://obsidianwings.blogs.com/obsidian_wings/2008/07/lie-to-me-baby.html
I mean, it is seriously laughable because it actually anticipates somewhere in the range of $700 billion in additional spending per year, with only the "victory in Iraq and Afghanistan" to cut costs.
Oh, but I'm talking policy again. I forgot that we were only discussing politics from a 3rd grader perspective. Let me see if I can dumb it down for you. John McCain has cooties. Eh? Better? Convinced yet? How about if I said he smells like old people's poo?

Links, plz! When did America become the new Mecca, again? Besides, we all know that those energy resources won't be going to any rednecks. The land rights will be sold to large energy companies and major business that are run out of New York, LA, Chicago, Houston, and Dubai. Maybe one of those is "redneck" country, and if you start calling Houston hill-billyish... well... you've either never been to Houston or never been to the rest of Texas.
But yes, I'm sure its all one grand liberal conspiracy to take money away from poor people sitting on a mountain of money.

"--- No, getting out of Iraq is what the majority of the country wants. Poll after poll after poll shows that. ---"
Maybe so. To be honest, I'd not mind seeing us quit that field of battle -- for likely different reasons than you might -- and tend to our own fissures and fractures and wounds (inflicted in no small manner by the negligence of the 108th - 110th Congresses).
Regardless of what those small-sampled polls might say, it is noteworthy that Obama is listening to the consensus of the people who yet still believe that we should stay and finish what we started: to secure Iraq until such time as she can defend herself against external aggressors and internal troublemakers.
As for that business of cutting back our CO2 emissions by 80% by 2050... who on earth in our generation is going to be around then and in much of a position to call shenanigans on it? Likely Obama will be long since senile by then, if he is still skulking about in his 90's.
He really should set more realistic and accountable goals. Lessee... 80% in 42 years? I'll be generous and say that in a term of four years, Obama could reduce our CO2 emissions by 8%. That leaves plenty of room for reasonableness and accountability, and setting up a viable cap-and-trade market (I'd love to get in on the ground floor of any ETFs, or likely ETNs based on that market) as well as not having to account for an additional several dozen million more Americans who may or may not exist in the distant future.
But no, that kind of shorter term planning that can be built upon and improved upon in succeeding generations is just too logical. Instead, let us woo the voters with an empty and unattainable promise of reducing emissions by 80% in 42 years.
Sure sounds real nice, but how do we know that will account for the project 10 billion people that may be around then? Half of them with cars, we would hope... unless the tyrannical goal is to strip everyone except that top 100,000 souls of the "Democratic" ruling class of all wealth, honour and dignity, and forced into mud huts for the sake of Mother Earth.
Seriously? I think a meteor would come slap us back into the stone age before that happened. At least then, we'd know for sure that CO2 emissions would be close to nil, as we scrap about to survive the "nuclear winter" for the next 100 years following such a meteor strike.
Or better yet, may the Lord Jesus would return before then to rule as King with a rod of iron, to disabuse any earthly potentates of their notions of such tyranny.

Not sure which is more depressing -- the fact that some woman decides to sell herself for $100 worth of gas, or that she was charged with "doing business without an occupational license."
Assuming harlotry is against NC law, wouldn't it go without saying that there is no way that she could get a license to perform that particular transaction?
Or worse, that the NC police has that charge as a "featured extra" to wring some more revenue out of captured hookers?
Interesting little law that is.

"Regardless of what those small-sampled polls might say, it is noteworthy that Obama is listening to the consensus of the people who yet still believe that we should stay and finish what we started: to secure Iraq until such time as she can defend herself against external aggressors and internal troublemakers."
1. Do you understand how polling works? Because your comment about small sample size implies you don't
2. The consensus among the public is to get out of Iraq. That's what it means when asked:
from http://www.pollingreport.com/iraq.htm
"Do you favor or oppose the U.S. war in Iraq?"
68% are against it.
"If you had to choose, would you rather see the next president keep the same number of troops in Iraq that are currently stationed there, or would you rather see the next president remove most U.S. troops in Iraq within a few months of taking office?"
64% say remove most troops
And on and on.
There is no consensus - majority - of people that want us to stay and finish the job.
Again - the Public wants the US out of Iraq. That's the CONSENSUS, MAINSTREAM, MAJORITY position.

OMG! An Islamic beast from the mountains of Peru( a Lefty, no doubt) knows about land and mineral rights in redneck land. Let me clue you in, spitter. The person who owns the land and minerals gets a percentage of the cut. Now, it's true, they don't get a huge percentage, it's usually in the 1/8 to 1/4 range, but that adds up to big bucks when you consider the price of oil and natural gas. Plus, the landowner gets lease money, and damages, and other goodies. You boys are just jealous, cause you aren't in the money. LOL. I guess you boys are having a hard time filling the old tank, huh?

OMG, more silliness from the Left.
1. The Democratic mayor of San Francisco has changed his mind about shielding drug-dealing illegal aliens from prosecution. The city has been flying drug dealers to So. America for the past few years, all at the taxpayer's expense. The drug dealers return, to be caught again in many instances, and flown back to So. America. All at the taxpayer's expense.
Quite the liberal hero you have there, progressives.

Well, if you want to talk about wasted money, lets talk about real bucks, not some penny-ante operation:
How the US sent $12bn in cash to Iraq. And watched it vanish
The US flew nearly $12bn in shrink-wrapped $100 bills into Iraq, then distributed the cash with no proper control over who was receiving it and how it was being spent.

The Pentagon cannot fully account for $19.2 billion worth of equipment provided to Iraqi security forces, government auditors said Tuesday.

Nearly $9 billion of money spent on Iraqi reconstruction is unaccounted for because of inefficiencies and bad management, according to a watchdog report published Sunday.

Last September in a phone interview, Ms. Bilmes estimated the war's total price tag as easily exceeding $2 trillion. In a book published last month, she and Joseph Stiglitz, a Nobel Prize-winning economist from Columbia University, New York, estimated the total long-run cost at $3 trillion in 2007 valued dollars.

Oh, that's a right clever poll you have there.
1,026 adults nationwide. MoE ± 3...
So that means 1,026 adults, most likely chosen from a major coastal urban area (we really cannot be *certain* of that, but it does seem likely, especially if you wanted to bias a poll one way or another) with about 30 of them possibly being out of skew one way or the other.
Real nice sample indeed. I'm sure that if we rang up 1,026 students at Cal-Berkely, they might answer very differently from 1,026 people from Oklahoma City. Not to mention that 1,026 people are hardly representative of the 300 millions who make up the population of this great Republic from sea to shining sea.

Or maybe they called 1,026 residents of Salt Lake City, and they all hate the war too.
It's actually multiple polls - all with the same result - the CONSENSUS, MAINSTREAM, MAJORITY opinion is to get out of Iraq.
And I thought you were against the war?
