It is quite funny, Wahoo, to observe libs, excuse me, progs, discover something others have named 'the business cycle'.

Me TomTom calculated about 1200 from here to TC. Average speed 60 = 20 hours? Not speeding, officer. Yes, I'm armed, but I have a right to be AND am licensed.

4bucks closing 600 of their coffee stores. So what? How many thousand do they have? One on every corner. And another one across the street. I never bought into the idea of a 4 dollar cup of coffee. McDonalds has good coffee and it is 50 cents(with free refills)for seniors at the one I go to.
Honda Civic was the best selling car in the USA for the month of May 2008. Wonder why. I read in the paper this morning some auto dealers are refusing to take SUVs as trade ins. The chickens are coming home to roost. Get your bikes and motorscooters out and also hit the bricks on shanks mare. Walking is the new freedom.

Why not fly? Four airports to hit from here to TC. Panama City to Memphis to Detroit to TC, for example. And I enjoy seeing parts of the country in between that I have never seen before.

"'the business cycle'."

Nah Fred a lot of folks really are hurting cyclic downturns aside and people should have seen it coming.' You mean you can't spend more than you make? Import more than you export?' Yeah some of the people who are in trouble should've been smarter but it's hard to blame someone who puts their trust in "authority". I mean the government is going to keep your lender from letting you get a loan you can't afford...right? Like back in the 70s when farmers were told to plant wheat "from fence post to fence post" and then we started having the farm aid concerts. I'm afraid it's going to get far worse for some people before it gets any better.

"4bucks closing 600 of their coffee stores. So what?"

Maybe some of the small local operations that they forced out will come back.......Why is it so hard to have sympathy for corporations?

"...a lot of folks really are hurting..." Why I believe I heard that pop hit song sung by a fellow named Olobama or something. What is a lot? What is hurting?

I am hurting because my home market value has gone from $435 to $350 since 2004? Is that what you mean? But how am I "hurt" by that? I have to live somewhere, do I not. So I'll live in my home, not sell, not suffer.

My mutual fund has lost 18% this year? Have I lost 18% by investing? No. The fund is up 176% since I bought it in 1997. (Olobamo was singing this song of false loss too during a speech he made to his stary-eyed worshipful recently. He was telling them that investing social security money in the stock market is bad for their financial security, but he left out the part about how intelligent investing would make money in the long run.)

Hey, Fred,

Where'd you go in Michigan?

Bla bla bla. Osama this, facts that. My Prius is better than you and your family.

I can dig my own trench and shit in it if I want too. I can also grow my own food, and make gunpowder. How many of you libs can do that?

C'mon over and we will talk about it over a beer.

What's that? No? Your prissy-Prius cant make it up my driveway?

Well sheeeit. I'll send my boy down with the horse to get ya.

God I hate you osama basterds.

Tell e'm Willie and Fred, they cant make do with what they got then they are worthless. Better off dead.

"-- Oh no! They should've had a strong union to keep this from happening...no, wait. OK, in GMs case, maybe just maybe they shouldve been building the vehicles people want. Shit! I have one.....Maybe vehicles the 'average' person wants. --"

Democrat: Hey, lets raise CAFE standards. It will save us money on oil, reduce green house gases, and make American cars more attractive than their foreign counterparts.

Republican: NOES! YOU WILL DESTROY THE ECONOMY! CAPITALISM!

Democrat: Gee, the Big Three Automakers are handing out rather large bonuses despite posting record losses. It almost looks like the CEOs are raiding their own companies and bankrupting them from the inside out.

Republican: I BLAME UNIONS! WHY DO YOU HATE RICH PEOPLE? CAPITALISM!

Democrat: Starbucks just closed 600 stores due to a drought in business. Looks like the economy is suffering.

Republican: Maybe local coffee companies with higher start-up costs and overhead will move into these unprofitable areas to do business. People are still driving cars, so the economy must be strong. Stock Markets? Unemployment? Inflation? They are no match for my first-hand impression of a truck stop in Kentucky. Woo, capitalism!

"-- I can dig my own trench and shit in it if I want too. I can also grow my own food, and make gunpowder. How many of you libs can do that? --"

Wow. I don't think I've ever heard anyone bragging about his ability to shit in a trench. But you win this round, Jim. While I can create gunpowder, cultivate a garden, and dig ditches, my ability to squat over a pit and drop a steaming #2 is seriously deficient. I guess that's why I'll be voting Obama '08. Cause I like using a flush toilet.

"God I hate you osama basterds. "

It's bastards, you inbred. No wonder Mexicans are taking your jobs. Your kind is utterly expendable.

Pookie the LLama is your bulb shaped head really so far up your own ass that you don't know when you're being agreed with? Or is it that your comprehension skills are such that you can only understand your own prose?

Damn peddle your bike downtown and buy a sense of humor/irony. You're so damned hateful that it's no wonder you have so much time to play computer games.

"-- Pookie the LLama is your bulb shaped head really so far up your own ass that you don't know when you're being agreed with? Or is it that your comprehension skills are such that you can only understand your own prose? --"

I honestly don't know what is up with your anal fixation, Will, but you don't have to feel so repressed. No one here will judge you. Except Seek. And Fred. TK'll probably just ask for your number. :-p

Either way, I'm not quite sure how "I blame unions and 'them'" really means you agree with me. You agree we should have regulated the auto industry back in the 90s? You agree we shouldn't have handed out giant tax credits to people buying Hummers? That cutting taxes on rich people when middle-class wages were stagnant and CEOs were raiding their own treasuries for every dime not glued to the floor was a bad idea?

I'm not seeing so much of that. Mostly, its a big head-in-the-sand homage to blind capitalism. And anal jokes. Which, apparently, only get more funny the more often you use them. :-p

Here's some news for you, pookie, you having your head up your ass is not an anal fixation of Willie's. And saying, "nah...nah...nah...you're gay" is hardly prose, well, not to anyone other than a stupid liberal, that is. Anyway, you and chris should take your anal fixations, which is apparently what YOU have, considering your remarks to Willie, to Stamford, and do whatever you queer boys do. You two are the perfect couple. I'll even loan...no...I'll buy you a ticket, just as long as you agree never to show your sorry ass in Texas again.

Speaking of queer - how's that PRIVATE school-educated lesbian doing? Still dribbling and sweating with the 'girls'?? You sure know how to rear em, cowboy!

Funny thing with chris/bob/whatever it calls itself these days...

So much hate in this young man/woman/thing.

It took umbrage at someone making light of a mentally-challenged child, but it feels ever so free to disparage other people's children.

While it would be altogether too easy to sin by responding in kind to it's rascally and knavish behaviour, chris/bob/it is an excellent example of God's grace: that God would lower Himself, through His Only-Begotten Son, to die as a Servant and as a criminal on a cross for our sins, even for such a disgusting and reprehensible creature as chris/bob/it.

But while we may take offense at what a horrible, despicable jackanape, a coxcomb, a scoundrel, and an otherwise wretched example of humanity chris/bob is, we must remember that it is also one of Adam's fallen race, who Christ died for.

Such were some of us at one time or another, lost in our sins. Let those of us who name the Name of the Saviour pray for chris/bob's eyes to be opened, that God may save him/her from the grasp of the Evil one.

Thank you for your support, Lord-lover. I will keep you and Chuck Baldwin in my prayers.

Here is a riddle: What is the difference between saving a Senator $300 a month and bringing him each month $300 tax-free cash in a paper bag. Answer....None.

A note on the Starbucks closures:

Since these stores typically are marketing toward the "urban professional" more than any other demographic, they tend to be overly concentrated in major urban "downtown" areas.

Consider NYC, where there are at least three Barnes & Noble bookstores each with a Starbucks coffee shop inside of them, and that full size Starbucks shops are within walking distance of all of those stores; also consider the mini-Starbucks available in some of the corporate centres as well as minor competition from lesser known coffee shops, as well as the industrial grade coffee sludge they serve up at the corner delis in Manhattan for a buck per cup. No kidding: a few years back when we were trying to locate a particular yakiniku restaurant, we saw no less than three Starbucks shops within a 5x5 block radius in Manhattan.

The premium coffee market has become over saturated (and notwithstanding folks like myself who have their own specialty coffee milling/brewing equipment that has long since paid for itself) ... and so as demand falls off with people choosing to put an extra gallon in their tanks as opposed to a Venti Macchiato in their gut, SB will have to cut back on all those stores that are within 5 blocks of each other.

Good riddance to Starbucks in NYC! Now, if you want good coffee...

http://www.themudtruck.com/

re Starbucks, I read that they said they are facing increased competition from Dunkin'Donuts and McDonald's.
I tried Starbucks once, it's like Jackie Mason says, it tastes like it is burned. It is awful coffee. I drink Illy.

Re: Dunkin' Donuts -- some of the better things come from surprising places. I've always like DD coffee, much cheaper and faster service.

As for the Mud truck, well, that just plain looks interesting. I may just have to check it out when I am in the neighbourhood.

Aand, if you are checking out the Mud Truck, you can get the best coffee beans (and the best selection and prices)in NY nearby at

http://www.portorico.com/store/

Ahh, common ground...

*rolles eyes*

So clearly Dunkin' Donuts and McD's are chewing up all of Starbuck's market share. We should expect both these franchises to announce and explosion in employment and storefronts, eh?

I do so love the "head in the sand" mentality. Car sales have also plummeted. I suppose we'll be hearing about how everyone's out riding their Huffys. After all, its not like credit is crunched or wages are low. Nope. People are just shopping at different dealerships.

God damn, who was the con-artist that convinced America that wingnuts knew jack diddley about economics?

ue Jul 1, 7:55 PM ET

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Starbucks Corp (SBUX.O) said on Tuesday it plans to close 600 underperforming U.S. stores and cut up to 12,000 full- and part-time positions, as it copes with an economic downturn and increasing competition.

The coffee seller, bracing for its first full-year profit decline since 2000, has been grappling with the slowing U.S. economy and consumer spending at the same time that major competitors like McDonald's Corp (MCD.N) have begun attacking its core business.

Starbucks plans to close the company-operated stores by the end of March 2009. The related job cuts would reduce the company's U.S. workforce by about 8 percent.

Common grounds indeed, if I may pun.

That shop (Porto Rico) also has good prices on teas and some herbals for a bit cheaper than what I have been getting. I might be heading downtown next weekend on some other business, and a lunch in the Village and some coffee/tea shopping might be on the do-list.

They also have that Civet Cat/Kopi Luwak coffee, though I can't say as I am in a particular hurry to try that out. :)

"-- July 3 (Bloomberg) -- U.S. employers cut jobs in June for a sixth consecutive month as soaring fuel prices and a slowing economy forced companies to reduce costs.

Payrolls fell by 62,000, close to economists' median forecast, after a 62,000 drop in May that was greater than initially reported, the Labor Department said today in Washington. The jobless rate remained at 5.5 percent after jumping in May by the most in two decades. --"

But the economy is doing fine. I just drove through down town San Antonio and saw some family loading a new flat screen TV into their monster pick-up truck. McCain '08.

Another victory in the fight against Islamic terrorists: "(07-02) 18:56 PDT SAN FRANCISCO -- A federal judge in San Francisco dismissed a lawsuit Wednesday that sought to prove President Bush acted illegally in 2001 when he ordered the wiretapping of phone calls between Americans and suspected foreign terrorists without court approval.

Chief U.S. District Judge Vaughn Walker said an Islamic charity on the government's terrorist list could not use a crucial classified document - an accidentally released memo indicating the charity and its lawyers had been wiretapped - to show that it had been harmed by the surveillance program and thus had the right to challenge it in court..."

Defense by a thousand stabs. It shouldn't have to be this way. We shouldn't have to battle the libs, sorry, progs, every step of the way in defending ourselves.

I think that the libruls are starting to come around and embrace President Bush.

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,372303,00.html

Quite the honor!

Yeah, the cat vomit coffee doesn't hold much appeal here either, especially for the price.

I've heard a lot about this outrageously priced stuff of late

http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/business/20080312-1049-panama-coffee-.html

I wonder if if lives up to the hype????

"-- Defense by a thousand stabs. It shouldn't have to be this way. We shouldn't have to battle the libs, sorry, progs, every step of the way in defending ourselves. --"

Get thicker diapers.

From Chris:

"-- A renegade voter movement to rename a San Francisco sewage plant after President Bush is flush with support in the liberal West Coast city. --"

Haha. Renegade voters! Renegade voters! Someone please protect us from the renegade voters! Epic lulz.

"-- Howard Epstein, chairman of the local GOP, told the San Francisco Chronicle the proposal is “loony bin direct democracy.” He said he’ll “use all means” to defeat it. --"

So many lulz, I would have thought I was reading the Onion.

I'm beginning to think the long-term brain damage brought on by untreated syphilis is beginning to make itself known in the comments of the legalllama.

"So much hate in this young man/woman/thing."

Yes, you tell that thing, seek.

We wouldn't put up with this crap in my town, as these guys would be run out and strung up as the queres they are.

They might no how to spell and all, but we have Christ as our saviour. We should pray for the change to come sooner and rid us of these heathens.

But, Ill tell you what, there ain't gonna be no Hussain as a president. Billary already suggested the ways in which this won't happen. It was just tragic what happened to RFK.

Besides, there are no true Christians who are going to vote for a Muslim.

"--- But, Ill tell you what, there ain't gonna be no Hussain as a president. Billary already suggested the ways in which this won't happen. It was just tragic what happened to RFK. ---"

Y'know... between the three similar discussions about the likelihood of an unfortunate event befalling Obama by way of the Clintons' hands from different people at work and now your comment, one begs the question of how many other Americans are thinking the exact same thing.

Quite disturbing, this line of thought is, if there is any credibility to it.

But regardless of Sen. Obama's actual intentions, Jesus said to leave the judgment and vengeance part up to Him. I'd much more be comfortable letting God handle that sort of thing than man, not to mention the untold damage it would have on our politics.

Believe it or not, I pray also for Obama's salvation as well, just as Paul exhorts us:

"-----
1 I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;

2 For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.

3 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;

4 Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.
-----"
(1 Timothy 2:1-4, KJV)

"-- But, Ill tell you what, there ain't gonna be no Hussain as a president. Billary already suggested the ways in which this won't happen. It was just tragic what happened to RFK. --"

Really? You really want to go down that dark road? Cause taking pot shots at the Obamesiah will really swing popular support to the GOP. Besides, Bill Clinton managed to make it through a governorship in Arkansas and a solid 8 years of Presidency without catching a bullet.

"-- Besides, there are no true Christians who are going to vote for a Muslim. --"

SPOOF! SPOOOOOOOF!

Nice spoof, that one. On the frames showing the kids with the white shirts, red neckerchiefs and blue pants/skirts, those are Komsomol uniforms.

Original source of that pic is here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Young_Pioneer_organization_of_the_Soviet_Union (3rd pic down on the right)

Pardon, that is the Young Pioneers, a Communist Party scouting group that served as a feeder into the Komsomol, itself the youth wing of the Communist Party.

I wonder if Jim and the rest of the hilljacks in his lovely town are more afeared of Muslims or toothbrushes?? Get hooked on phonics, Jim. It can't hurt!

I have pondered and now believe that Jim is a fabrication of one of the libs, sorry, progs who share their hatreds with us here. Jim is what they "feel" their enemy would say. Spoof indeed.

The editors of the NYT are "correcting" Obama. They are chastizing his campaign. They say he needs to show "Change we can believe in." Hahahahah

Our troops want to come home, and come home now.

"BAGHDAD – How are you spending your 4th of July holiday? While most Americans probably slept, 1,215 Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, and Marines raised their right hands and committed to a combined 5,500 years of additional service during the largest reenlistment ceremony in the history of the American military."

Well, happy birthday, Americans. Even you of the "loyal" opposition. I'm off to celebrate the anniversary of a world-changing event.

Fuck you Fred, just because you are a lib in disguise dont mean I am. I am saying exactly what I know anyway, libs embodie everything that is wrong with america. They walk around with a diploma covering their eyes, and think they are better.

And you are just like them, just because I dont write perfectly you call me a fucking lib? Ponder this Fred: kiss my ass.

You 'embodie' corrupt genetics and too much trailer living.

You mean conservatives have gone and closed all the Starbucks....wah..wah..wah..whine..whine. Where am I going to get my latte? And watch Pinkie and the Brain, and plan to take over the World...and brag about my great knowledge of economics. Like taking over oil companies...and putting price controls on gasoline, and making the automakers use that super secret technology they've been hiding from us for years, like the carburetors which allows a car to get 300 miles a gallon.

And free health care for everybody in the world, and even in the US, and none of us have to do anything other than chill. Except be lawyers. And everything will just be perfect, and blah...and blah. And Gitmo, don't forget all that torture. And wiretapping of foreign terrorists, cause if you don't wiretap them, they won't hurt you, they will like you, and cumbaya..and free hippie love..and all. And no damn drilling for oil, cause the sun can run your car, I just know it can, cause I saw it in Mother Jones. And no coal, or nuclear, or nothing. Cause I know everything will just magically appear just as soon as I say so. Or at least if Obama says so.
