I haven't had anything new to say about the John Edwards / Rielle Hunter affair. Memeorandum item on it here. Initially I did some work on it here and here. My reason for laying off now has to do with his wife's illness.
Edwards needs to do the right thing here; hopefully he is doing it now. He should tell his wife what's up ... they should release some statement ... and Edwards needs to leave the national political stage now - and for good.
At this point, if a Dem President even appoints this dirt bag to something, there will be hell to pay for it. It's just too despicable, especially given his holier than thou rhetoric and use of his wife and also her illness in his campaign. The man is dirt.
As an aside on the Enquirer, when I was doing the Holloway story, more than one mainstream journalist told me the Enquirer was all over it in Aruba. Their thoughts were, when The Enquirer does an attention getting item with these types of consequences - they work harder than most and make sure to get it right.
I talked to a few of their people when they were after some Holloway-related pictures I had access to. They acted professionally is all I can say about that. They weren't mine to sell anyway. So, I never even considered it.

What is it with these Viagra overdosing Dems? Marriage vows be damned. If they aren't staining dresses or having three ways with their wives they are driving girl friends off of bridges.

LOLS!
Ok, well, if we're going off of National Enquirer Headlines as some sort of definitive proof of things...

George Bush needs to admit he's fallen off the wagon and apologize to his wife. Laura needs to get some anger management therapy and divorce council quickly or she is in serious risk of losing her marriage. And Bat Boy deserves a father. A real father. Why won't the father of Bat Boy come forward and acknowledge his son?
*sob* Why? Bat Boy just wants to be loved!

Wasn't the Bat Boy franchise a product of the "World Weekly News" and not the Enquirer?

IslamoLlama, Name your source(s) in the White House or live knowing you are thought to be a whopper of a liar. Your choice but then when did it bother a democrat or Islamist to lie, it's bred and born into them? Right now Hussein O is up to more than 80 'documented' lies in his short political (Presidential run) career. He can lie about his lies but the records will eat him alive. I think we should start impeachment proceding's against him now. No way he should be in the Senate ripping off the taxpayers, 143 days on the senate floor. What has he cost the taxpayers, a million dollars+ for each day worked? That record should get anyone fired, or better yet, tried and executed. But then we seldom execute the mentally ill (a rule that will fall by the wayside when the rope at midnight becomes the means of justice, again) and that lets the democrats off the hook.

BobInStamford, check your family history and verify that no one has ever had an accident, murdered someone, or been a druggie. Bet your history is not too clean.
My family history has been well researched and for a fact one great uncle shot the hell out of several people (some dead, some wounded) and another great uncle shot (dead) one of his enemies, and both of my great grandfathers served the South. This was 80 to 100+ years ago.
Doesn't bother me. Times and people change.

Perhaps he should throw himself under Obama's bus before Barry has to say anything.

I hope Edwards has the integrity to retire from public life and do right by the baby and his family. However those two seemingly mutually exclusive goals can be accomplished.
Posted by: Ralph | Saturday, July 26, 2008 at 12:39 AM
Hey Islamofacist
Those were not the enquirer. Perhaps you can tell the difference. Kos clearly can't.
Besides that though there is the matter of evidence. What are they saying and what do they have to support it. It's called critical judgement. Do you have any? If you are the product of our public schools lately you likely do not.
Posted by: Ralph | Saturday, July 26, 2008 at 12:46 AM
Clearly the party of Lincoln doesn't mind druggies. Your esteemed current leader, Rush Limbaugh and McSame's pill thieving wife are evidence of that.
The surge WORKED!!! Mission Accomplished!!

America Held Hostage, Day 1: When will Dan call for the resignations of Larry Craig and David Vitter? When will he demand that Newt Gingrich voluntarily give up all his political aspirations?

"having three ways with their wives"
Er... Jack Ryan is a Republican. You must be confused by one of Fox News's "accidental" party mislabelings.

The Enquirer can't decide if it wants to be a tabloid or do serious investigative reporting. They're plainly the equal of any major respectable rag on hard investigations when they choose to be. That just happens to be a low single digit percentage of their column inches.

"The SURGE worked."
Why, yes, it did. You and Barack Obama are the only two people on the planet who won't admit it. He, for political reasons, you, because of mental illness.

If by "Surge" you mean the financial payoffs to various groups, then yes "that" worked. Once that stops all bets are off. Are your proposing we continue paying people to not kill each other into eternity? If so I'd love to get in on some of that action.

How much, what groups, for what purpose?

"The Lincoln Group, a Washington-based public relations company, was told early in 2005 by the Pentagon to identify religious leaders who could help produce messages that would persuade Sunnis in violence-ridden Anbar Province to participate in national elections and reject the insurgency, according to a former employee."
http://www.nytimes.com/2006/01/02/politics/02propaganda.html
We conducted psychological warfare through propaganda???? Horrors. That's akin to putting the Spanish boot on our prisoners. However, there is something the NYT forgot to do. Show that these "messages" were untrue. Of course we used psy-war techniques, dopey. Why wouldn't we.
Posted by: Fred Beloit | Saturday, July 26, 2008 at 04:05 PM
Stop the presses. Fred has again responded to - wait for it - NOT the point of substance addressed, but rather some other straw issue! That point being that the "success" of the Surge can largely be attributed to the fact that the military is PAYING OFF third parties to fight and/or not fight certain other third parties, and to employ psy-op tactics where the military deems them necessary.
The question posited was, how can this "success" sustain itself when the basis of said "success" is bribery? Moreover, how can it even be called a "success" at all?

"U.S. sponsorship of Sunni groups worries Iraq's government"
By Leila Fadel | McClatchy Newspapers
The Iraqi government should be more worried about OB's plans for leaving the Iraqis to the tender mercies of a nuclear Iran is something this Irish writer doesn't mention...oh she doesn't sound Irish? Nevermind. The "McClatchy Newspapers" investment in defeat makes Pinch's investment look like peanuts. Read this article for yourself, folks. Basically it is just "good news could possibly, maybe turn into bad news" psuedo journalism.

Well, the best refutation of this story, you sly dog, is that the story was predicting dire consequences in NOVEMBER 2007. Non of these dire consequences have arisen. Why not?

Totally says: "That point being that the "success" of the Surge can largely be attributed to the fact that the military is PAYING OFF third parties to fight and/or not fight certain other third parties, and to employ psy-op tactics where the military deems them necessary."
You don't seem to know much about the military, Totally. Are you aware that we "pay off" our own military to fight and/or not to fight. Are you aware that psy-warfare is a common tactic of almost every war ever fought? Ask Victor Hanson, an expert in the History of the warfare of the Ancient Greeks, among other things. You are of course entitled to believe that the surge wasn't responsible for our victories in Iraq. It is stupid to believe that, but you have your rights.
Posted by: Fred Beloit | Saturday, July 26, 2008 at 04:42 PM
You liberals just can't stand for us to win in Iraq, can you? You have put so much political capital in a US loss that you would rather see us lose, even when it's quite obvious to anyone with a brain that the Surge worked, just as the military had predicted. But you libs just continue to deny your lying eyes, don't you?
Now, we're not winning, we're bribing people not to fight. Kinda like what Jimmah Carter did when he offered aid to Egypt and Israel at the Camp David Peace Accords. You jerks never cease to amaze.

i wouldn't believe anything i read in the national enquirer. having said that, if the reports from other sources are true, edwards has some explaining to do. i feel sorry for his wife, damn it's hard to fight back when you are ill. if it's not true, i'd sue.
Posted by: tally | Saturday, July 26, 2008 at 07:39 PM
"Edwards has some explaining to do"
Tarting it up and even knocking the tart up is expected from politicians. It part of their sense of entitlement.
Its this getting caught in such an unseemly manner that needs explaining. Edwards is supposed to be a smart guy who should be able to manage something a tad smoother than this.
Posted by: PA | Saturday, July 26, 2008 at 08:43 PM
"Edwards Needs To Get Honorable..."
Using Edwards and honorable in the same sentence, like clean, safe and nuclear.......should be against international law if not a cardinal sin.
National Enquirer aside (some source) Johnny, mistresses and the new love child are not new news...Tis also rumored that wifey has just turned a blind eye for a long time....What would you do to live in a 28000 square foot palace?

No. The truly funny thing about that little statement is how it completely ignores Bob Dole pimping the stuff for years after he lost to Clinton in '96. I think that's the very definition of "fall from grace".
