I'm telling you, Obama is turning out to be a real lightweight. He could end up being nothing more than proof of the failure of Affirmative Action. Unfortunately, the Republican nominee is so bad, Obama might just win this thing.
The NewsBuckit points to Obama's latest hypocrisy.

With candidates this weak, it is a sure bet that most people will stay home.
It is truly too bad that most people cannot see that there are good third party candidates - conservative third party candidates to choose from.

No one should be concerned about Jimmah Obama's suggestion. All it is is an attempt to buy votes for the next election. Political business as usual. Wonder where this 50 bil will come from? Rev Wright's congregation perhaps?

Strange. If Islamobama Hussien Barack-America-like-a-terrorist is such a mediocre candidate, where is he getting all his fund raising dollars from?
http://thehill.com/campaign-2008/obama-could-raise-100-million-in-june-fundraisers-say-2008-06-09.html
Maybe Renzo is secretly funneling him cash under the guise of millions of Americans from across the country. How long till the DoJ investigates this clearly criminal abuse of the political process? Or maybe the millions of dollars are pouring in from OSAMA BIN LADEN?!
All I can say is that this can only be good for Hillary.

You do realize that the suspension of the gas tax issue and the tax rebate issue are totally different issues right? And that it is not inconsistent to advocate one and not the other right? And that the results of one would be wholly inapposite from the other right? Right? You understand the economic impact of each proposal right? Right?

You know Lame-O you can't make chicken salad out of chicken shit!
The "Rock Star" candidate can raise all of the money he wants but the ability of this YoYo to change his mind or direction is staggering.
He claimed he was for using public campaign funding when he started running then realized he spoke too soon and changed his mind.
Iran is too small to be threat ... oops! I meant that Iran is a "grave" threat, you took that other thing I said "out of context"(see #10). I will meet with the world's nut jobs with no preconditions, ... oops! I meant "but with preparations", again you took that other thing I said "out of context".
The policy of change obviously doesn't apply to using gimicks. If the gas tax is "sucking up" what is another round of "stimulus" money?
How about if Barry were to introduce legislation to open up drilling in Anwar and off of the coast, how about nuclear energy. We have three times the known reserves of Saudi Arabia in the Rockies locked up in oil shale.
If the goal is energy independance we aren't going to get there with "Change" and "Hope", you know - "Chope".
It is going to take someone willing to tell their party bosses to take a hike and go against the tide and piss some people off.
Unfortunately for the left that man is John McCain not Barry.

I am certain they don't understand. The right wing mind only understands one concept. If a democrat is proposing it then it must be communist.
The right wingers here are still circulating the e mail that Obama is a Muslim.
And these are the folks who call themselves Christians.

While your ignorance of the issues answers the question, "Who would be stupid enough to pull the lever for another GOP hack in 2008?", it still doesn't address the original question. Where is Barack Obama getting all his money from?
I mean, he's the affirmative action candidate, right? His popular support is anemic, right? No one in Peoria is voting for him, right? Then where is all his money coming from?
I'd love to see you guys follow the money on this. Clearly, the tens of millions of dollars Obama has already raised must come from some sinister or nefarious source. The man has absolutely no national appeal, so its not like he's just receiving millions of dollars in grass roots donations. The Obama campaign is dead in the water, depressing the voters and killing any Independent support, with only tree-hugging hippies and a cancer ridden Ted Kennedy to buttress him up. The only reason he's not doing worse in the polls rests with John McCain for not being a strong enough Republican candidate (like dear sweet Mittens Romney, who'd be beating the burka off his terror-loving opponent if only he'd been given the chance).
There's no way that Obama has any popular support. His money must be coming exclusively from George Soros. And since no citizen can contribute more than $2300 individually, that means George Soros is breaking election campaign finance laws. Clearly illegal. Clearly amoral. And just the sort of breaking story that would really put the stake in the Obampire once and for all.
So what are you Army of Davids doing, sitting around and licking Cheetos dust off your fingers. Get cracking! There's an election to be won. A free world to be saved. A liberal army to be vanquished. A terrorist army of Osama Bin Ladens just over the horizon that are just begging for a good old fashioned carpet nuking. Now is your chance to shine, brave Americans!

Those don't look right, Fred. I've got different numbers over here.
http://opensecrets.org/pres08/contrib.php?cycle=2008&cid=N00006424
http://www.opensecrets.org/pres08/contrib.php?cycle=2008&cid=N00009638
McCain and Obama respectively.
And while its always fun to see where money is coming in by business or industry, I think the demographics approach is much more informative.
http://opensecrets.org/pres08/donordemCID.php?cycle=2008&cid=N00006424
http://www.opensecrets.org/pres08/donordemCID.php?cycle=2008&cid=N00009638
While Obama does lead in every donation range, you'll notice that he leads significantly in the $200 - $500 range. In fact, Obama has 4 times as many small dollar donations as McCain. He has two and half as many contributors.
So where is the lack of popular appeal? Where is this dearth of popular support? I will concede that if Obama is unpopular then John McCain is more unpopular. But I fail to see what indication is being held forward that either candidate is performing sub par. Certainly the McCain campaign hasn't been abandoned by the Republican base. The polls show both candidates are neck and neck in the popular count. And record voter registration and primary turn out seems to indicate that if this country feels anything, political apathy ain't it.
So where does Dan get this foggy notion that the Presidential Election is sagging from a lack of public interest or support? Where's his evidence? Where's the beef?

http://www.dailyreckoning.com/rpt/OilShale.html
"Estimated U.S. oil shale reserves total an astonishing 1.5 trillion barrels of oil - or more than five times the
stated reserves of Saudi Arabia."
Obama pledged to use public funding and has since backed off:

His flip/flop about meeting with the nutjobs:

I really don't expect that any of these links will have any effect on your veiw of life. Why let facts muddy up the moonbat mind.
The central point is not about him raising money from little Billy breaking open his piggy bank to support the "annointed one". It is the fact that this guy says anything to appease the crowd he's talking to at any given moment.
You and others suffer from some kind of psycological transference where you want to have all of your hopes and dreams come true and use this guy as your conduit. The problem is he is a flawed, inexperienced and unknown Manchurian Candidate that will suckup to the crowd. He will stand there and pat you on the back with one hand and steal your wallet with the other!

The fine print:
"This table lists the top donors to this candidate in the 2008 election cycle. The organizations themselves did not donate , rather the money came from the organization's PAC, its individual members or employees or owners, and those individuals' immediate families. Organization totals include subsidiaries and affiliates.
Because of contribution limits, organizations that bundle together many individual contributions are often among the top donors to presidential candidates. These contributions can come from the organization's members or employees (and their families). The organization may support one candidate, or hedge its bets by supporting multiple candidates. Groups with national networks of donors - like EMILY's List and Club for Growth - make for particularly big bundlers."

SacTownMan,
I've been on thread after thread on Dan's blog over the past couple of years trying to explain to these people how the energy industry works, to no avail. They think you can just snap your fingers and boom...solar energy power plants appear, or wind turbines appear, or geothermal is everywhere. I have tried to explain to them that infrastructure does not exist for solar and wind, and that it will take years to get wind and solar energy up to speed, a minimum of 20-30 years at the least.
I have pointed out many times that we must develope the resources we have, such as oil and gas, to get us through this period. I tried to explain that we have 130,000,000 vehicles that run on oil products, yet they say solar...solar...electric...electric...as if these vehicles could be replaced in a year or less. They are totally disconected from reality, and it is useless to even try to explain anything to them. As salesmen and college boys and accountants they know everything there is to know about the energy business.

templar knight,
I understand your position and it makes sense to me.
And both sides have been asleep for 30 years.
To me the no brainer is force, yes force, the auto makers into more efficient fuel standards.
Really pissed me off when W and the GOP gave tax incentives to encourage gas guzzlers back in 2002. Remember you could write the entire vehicle off in one year if it was over 6,000 lbs.
Some real forward thinking there. I'm sure no one could have anticipated we could have a problem with our oil supply.

Is John McSame A Hypocrite?
John McCain on the US presence in Lebanon back in 1983:
The fundamental question is "What is the United States' interest in Lebanon? It is said we are there to keep the peace. I ask, what peace? It is said we are there to aid the government. I ask, what government? It is said we are there to stabilize the region. I ask, how can the US presence stabilize the region?...
The longer we stay in Lebanon, the harder it will be for us to leave. We will be trapped by the case we make for having our troops there in the first place.
What can we expect if we withdraw from Lebanon? The same as will happen if we stay. I acknowledge that the level of fighting will increase if we leave. I regretfully acknowledge that many innocent civilians will be hurt. But I firmly believe this will happen in any event.

Senate Republicans today blocked a proposal to eliminate tax breaks for the nation's biggest oil companies and tax their windfall profits, rejecting Democratic claims that the measure would help ease consumer anger over $4-a-gallon gasoline.
The Senate fell nine votes short of the 60 votes required to proceed to debate on the measure, which would have wiped out $17 billion in tax breaks over 10 years and created a new levy on "unreasonable" profits collected by the five largest U.S. oil companies.
The package also would have instructed the Justice Department to pursue members of OPEC for alleged price fixing and required oil traders to put up more cash on futures exchanges to address speculation, which many observers believe is contributing to the unprecedented run-up in world crude oil prices.
"Today we had a chance to deal with the issue of high gasoline prices, and the Republican senators sent a resounding no," Sen. Charles E. Schumer (D-N.Y.) said during a news conference after the vote.
Also today, Senate Republicans on a 50-44 vote blocked consideration of legislation that would extend tax breaks for wind, solar and other alternative energy sources.

"-- Senate Republicans today blocked a proposal to eliminate tax breaks for the nation's biggest oil companies and tax their windfall profits, rejecting Democratic claims that the measure would help ease consumer anger over $4-a-gallon gasoline. --"
Capitalism, jharp. The only reason gasoline is $4 / gallon is because of market forces. Oil companies don't want gas to cost this much, but that's just the reality of supply and demand.
The $10 billion in profits Exxon made last quarter doesn't have anything to do with price gouging. If you were to tax that money, you'd just force Exxon to raise the price of gas until it was making $10 billion a quarter again. That's how the market works. Exxon can't make less than $10 billion a quarter in profits, what with gasoline being an inelastic good. Ergo, they would be required to raise prices.
Why would you punish Exxon just for existing in a market that magically hands them the largest profits ever received by a corporation? That seems down right anti-capitalistic.
Posted by: IslamoLlama | Tuesday, June 10, 2008 at 05:42 PM
Jharp, it also helps to think of things this way.
Repealing tax breaks for oil companies = raising taxes and increasing the price of gas for everyone.
Offering tax breaks to solar, wind, and tidal power companies = government handouts and pork barrel spending.
Also helpful to consider oil lobbyists as friendly advocates for economically friendly power, while alternative energy lobbyists are Al Gore sponsored money whores who only want to turn a buck on the back of honest hard-working America.
Btw, thanks guys. This kool-aid tastes great. What did you put in it?

Man. Good thing the Congress wasn't solidly Republican between 2002 and 2006, during the height of wasteful spending. And good thing the President doesn't have veto power. No sir. President Bush was entirely powerless to stop Bridges to Nowhere and curdle pork barrel spending in Republican districts. Hands were tied. TAKE A COURSE IN CIVICS, STOOPID LIE-BRULS!
It was the evil Democrat Minority that railroaded through pork project after boondoggle, ran up hundreds of billions in deficit spending, and paid Blackwater mercs five to ten times what a US serviceman earned. This segways nicely with the cries of shock and horror from the right when Reid and Pelosi tried to cut war funding.
Just remember, kids. The GOP is powerless. It's always the Democrats' fault.

Pretty amazing that George Bush and the GOP fucked things up so badly that a black man with the names Hussein Obama is going to be our next President.

"To me the no-brainer is force, yes force..."
Uh-huh, and you tell me how forcing the auto makers into better fuel standards will have any effect on what is going on right now. I don't know how to make it any clearer to you people, it will take decades to replace 130,000,000 vehicles. And that will still not solve a single problem, as immigration will eat up whatever might be accomplished by better fuel efficiency. You see, jharp, more people, even if we save 20%, which is almost beyond comprehension, would still cause us to use more fuel. Do the Democrats now have a platform to control immigration? Didn't think so, and until and unless you deal with that problem, no amount of savings will solve the problems we have. We will continue to use more energy.
Posted by: shockwave | Tuesday, June 10, 2008 at 09:16 PM
Shockewave,
It better to keep quiet and let people think you are a moron rather than post and remove all doubt.
"Uh-huh, and you tell me how forcing the auto makers into better fuel standards will have any effect on what is going on right now."
And tell me how allowing more domestic production will help right now. We have our oil man templar, whom I believe, telling it takes a decade to put the infrastructure in place to exploit our domestic supplies.
"I don't know how to make it any clearer to you people, it will take decades to replace 130,000,000 vehicles."
Decades, huh? We are making hybrids now. That's now you dumbass.
I say in one decade, the same amount of time to set up to use our domestic reserves, we could easily replace 130,000,000 vehicles.
You are a fool.

Wow, you're not as optimistic as I thought you'd be.
My projections for a worst-case scenario election show the Senate at 78D-20R-2I and the House at 386D-47R-2I.
A best case scenario renders out more evenly with a 55D-43R-2I Senate, and a 224D-211R and McCain in the WH.
Neither scenario is especially palatable.

(I was like you in polisci class....Savior Faire) But you're here to help. So lemme get this straight. When that lady who's 3rd in line to be the prez stood up before the nation and told us all the wnderful things the new congress was going to do in the "first hundred days". Did she know about these veto things and cloture and 60 majorities and such? Seems pretty basic to me, but maybe she isn't smart as you. So if she *did* know and knowingly misstated facts would it be a lie? No, Aunt Nancy would never lie to us.......Now what about that line item thingy Clinton wanted, what happened to it and is it a good thing? How many people does it take to filibuster? I just dont want anyone in Obie's way when he's raising my taxes. Finally, is that Tex Avery rooster ( that'd be Foghorn Leghorn)REALLY named for Sam Irvin? You really are the smartest little girl in the world Pookie.

"I say in a decade we could easily replace 130,000,000 vehicles."
With what? You are truly stupid. Don't you realize that the vast majority of vehicles that are now for sale use gasoline or oil products, you nitwit? Don't you have the brains to know that it takes time for the price of something with brand new technology to come down? The price is beyond the means of the average person. Maybe all the reasonably priced electric cars are in neverland.
Oh, you think Peter Pan makes autos, I forgot. Yeah, force Peter and Tinka Bell to make affordable electric cars. That pixie dust will work just fine. You ought to sober up before you comment on this blog, jharpie.

Speaking of civics class, Islamocow, a 49-49-2 split in the Senate means that the Democrats can effectively block any bill they so choose, and prevent its passage. Now, your point about Fred attending civics class would be what? That you need to sit right beside him in that class?

Swing by the Congressional Records and note how much legislation has been passed in the House, but filibustered, tabled, or killed in the Senate. It's nice to think that Pelosi's Majority is a massive failure because the GOP has done such a good job of obstruction. Even better to lay the blame at the feet of Nancy Pelosi. After all, if legislation gets blocked in the Senate after Pelosi got it passed in the House, how does that not make her a giant liar?
I mean, she should have known better. She should have come to the American people and prepared us for minimal gains in the face of adversity. How cruel and thoughtless of her. The only thing for me to do is cast my vote for filibustering, obstructionist, pro-war, tax-cut crazy Republicans in the fall. I mean, sure the GOP's policies have given us poisoned foods in our grocery stores, record deficits from ill-planned wars, and a dollar that's lost 40% of its value against the Euro. But Nancy Pelosi lied to me. So my choice is clear.

Were we to cut funding in Iraq, our dear leader threatened not to withdraw troops in response. This is criminal behavior and reckless irresponsibility. It's also more than likely a bluff. I don't think for a second that the Democratic Party has been chicken shit when it comes to staring down the President on the Iraq War. They've been more concerned with backlash that would result if they cut funding than they are concerned with actually seeing Bush's debacle come to an end. In that sense, you're absolutely right. The grass roots left feels betrayed and hurt by Pelosi and Reid and their political maneuvering.
Of course, come November they have two options. Vote in larger Democrat Majorities. Or stay home and let the GOP continue to fuck over the country. Given those two very stark options, we'll go with chicken shit Democrats over shit stain Republicans any day of the week.
You'll also note that ultra-liberal far-left Marxist radical Barack Obama has been in line with Ted Kennedy and John Kerry on the anti-war front of the US Senate. The man we plan to put in the White House is far to the left of the abysmally rated US Congress. He's no Zell Miller, and we don't expect him to governor like one.
I just don't see how your little arguments are attempts to accomplish anything? Are you just trying to make yourselves feel better because McCain is a pro-immigration muddling moderate with pathetic speaking skills and a tired GOP message that died a tired death back in 2006? Or are you hoping to drag me down to your level by distorting reality until I'm as sorry and miserable about the nation's political future as you are? Perhaps its a game of gotcha, combined with self-justification for not voting Democrat when the Republicans have presented such bad options over the last 4 years.
I just don't really see the end game here. Still, its interesting to watch you play.

"I say in a decade we could easily replace 130,000,000 vehicles."
With what?
With hybrids.
"You are truly stupid. Don't you realize that the vast majority of vehicles that are now for sale use gasoline or oil products, you nitwit?"
Yeah, I'm aware. That's why I said ten years.
"Don't you have the brains to know that it takes time for the price of something with brand new technology to come down?"
Yeah, I'm aware. And it's not new technology. It's existing technology.
So you tell me, brain surgeon, how long would it take for us dramtically reduce consumption?
I'd like to throw you an insult but your own post insults you plenty.

You must be the one taking crazy pills. Do not by any means take Amy's advise by avoiding rehab.
Secondly, Barack is actually accurate about replenishing the economy. History Note: The Depression of the 1930s was stimulated by the New Deal, we all have reservations about the new deal now because it's been 70 year's with very little reformation. But the fact of the matter is that we are in a recession, and folks are holding on to their pocket books for necessities or charging the heck out of the plastic. Therefore job/hiring stability is in jeopardy so of course the economy requires a boost.
