Yes, it has changed and you can thank liberals for it.

And add the end of slavery and the right of women to vote.

And for the intellectually challenged I'm aware Lincoln was a republican.

Please note I said liberals.

Funny how the guy who supports that racist asshat George "Macaca" Allen is so easily 'chilled'.

"Today in US History, 1925: John Scopes was arrested in Dayton, Tennessee for teaching Darwin’s theory of evolution to his high school biology class"

Conservatives in action.

Darwin hated teh Jeebus. He actually believed that the earth was older than the 3,219 years that the Bible says.

What the neo-liberals above seem to be unaware of is that, by today's standards, all of the so-called liberals they are invoking would be somewhere from far-right to center right and, consequently, conservative.

They don't even know their own tradition and history. How sad and uninformed. Liberals today are a vapid and mostly, if not completely useless group.

So allowing women equal rights isn't liberal?

How about allowing homosexuals equal rights. Not liberal?

So conservatives are in favor of gay marriage?

Go figure. I had no idea.

"---

Somehow, I do not think that Lincoln or even the ultra-liberal FDR might have smiled upon gay marriage favorably.

And yes, teaching the wicked moral relativist dogma of Darwinism should be a crime, for all of the evil baggage that comes with it: relegating mankind down to the level of being mere animals bound only by their basest instincts and valuing life even less - calling unborn children "unwanted blobs of tissue"... the endgame for this sort of debasement of the sanctity of human life and it Creator certainly leads to the Maoist killing fields which trade life as a cheap and negligible commodity.

And no, the "LGBT Lifestyle™" should not receive validation for the 1-2% of the population who would try to force their perversion upon us, and especially our youth. It should be properly confined in a closet of shame as sin, and defined as sexual deviancy from God's plan for marriage between man and woman.

Here, jharp, you attempt to mix the classical liberalism of those who actually sought *liberty* for people to do as they please, with the lawlessness of those who abuse liberty and mistake it for licentiousness and destructive mores which work to destroy, and not edify our society.

As Riehl said on the previous post:

Two days ago black Muslims dressed in burkas robbed a bank and killed a police officer in Philadelphia.

Modern Liberalism in action.

hi seeker,

Don't want to get too personal here as you seem to be a decent fellow. But if you choose to use your Bible to deny equal rights I strongly feel you can shove your Bible right up your arse.

"And yes, teaching the wicked moral relativist dogma of Darwinism should be a crime,"

I 'pray' that you took one of those freestyle cruises. I feel bad for any innocents who would have to spend a week of vacation dinners listening to your crazyass jesusbabble.

"Don't want to get too personal...I strongly feel you can shove your Bible up your arse."

Well, that's getting pretty personal, I'd say.

And chris/boob, anyone having to listen to your bullshit on a cruise would do the right thing and throw your sorry ass overboard. I'd pull for a shark to get you, but drowning would serve the same purpose, although wouldn't be as satisfying. Oh, and thanks for all the info, Bible scholar that you are.

Actually, since you are such a chump, you would have to ask your wife if it was ok if you threw me overboard. I doubt you do much on your own.

Actually, if it were up to me, I'd shut your mouth up quick, punk, so no one would have to listen to your bullshit, and it wouldn't involve throwing your butt overboard. One solid punch in that piehole you call a mouth would shut you up, if you even had the guts to say anything, which I'm sure you wouldn't. So you'd be safe from me, gutless little bastard that you are.

I'm sorry, Dan, but I'm sick of the little bastard. I apologize to all.

Templar,
Me too. No need to apologize.

Hey Templar, It is a well known liberal tactic to monitor moderate or conservative websites and attempt to bait people into lashing out. If you notice the first couple of posters will usually be the most vocal and obnoxious liberal moonbats. They will then post over and over and focus on trying to drive away others with their lame rehashed talking points and profanity laced diatribes. If they hang out at the standard lib sites they just keep patting each other on the back and remind each other that "Bush lied, troops died", "McCain wants to stay in Iraq for a hundred years", "9/11 was an inside job", blah blah blah....

Seek,
What is the world coming to? I used to comment to vegans that carrots didn't like being pulled out of the ground. Now we have this - The Silent Scream of the Asparagus http://www.weeklystandard.com/Content/Public/Articles/000/000/015/065njdoe.asp?ZoomFont=YES

"actually arrested for the “crime” of marrying the wrong kind of person."

Yeah, that could never happen today.

"Yes, it has changed and you can thank liberals for it."

Yes, that right.

Liberals like Bull Conner, Lester Maddox, George Wallace, Robert Byrd, Huey Long, Orval Faubus, FDR, Jimmy Burns, Hugo Black, Ernest Hollings, Jesse Jackson, Cragg Hines, Al Sharpton, Lee Brown, Mary Frances Berry, Billy McKinney, J. William Fulbright, Albert Gore Sr., Sam Ervin, Richard Russell, and the list could go on and on.

You might like to think, and some may actually believe, that the libs brought civil rights to this country but if you are intellectually honest at all then a minimal amount of research will show the error of your ways.

Oh heavens, it would appear that the part-time oil-baron and private-school supporter has gone off the deep end. Perhaps it's time to ask the wife's permission to have a bit of alone time. You'll need to rest up for your big shopping trip with 'the girls'. Are you allowed to have any free time in NYC or will it all be Bendels & Barneys?? I, for one, envy you. Really.

For jharp:

Your problem would not be with me, but with the Creator.

He is the One who established that a family is a man, a woman, and the children that they bring forth as a result of their marriage and the godly knowledge of each other as mates.

When we break from God's ways... all manner of evil can result.

As it is, God denies no one their rights (in fact, He is the source of our liberties). But when our "rights" are "wrongs", we shall pay a penalty for our deviation from His will.

This is true for Christians (who bring themselves under God's hand of discipline when they stray) and for the unregenerate, who face God's wrath if they continue to disobey and reject His Son.

Therefore, it is the duty of a God-fearing government (that is, a government composed of people who know, respect, and seek to keep God's commandments) to restrain the actions of the wicked.

If we fail to do that (as we have been, and especially so since the 1960s) we as a nation, bring ourselves under God's judgment.

"Your problem would not be with me, but with the Creator."

No, I have a problem with people like you who use the written words of men to deny equal rights to a fellow American.

Keep in mind, seeker, that you are in the minority. There are more non Christians than there are Christians in this world.

I respect your right to worship as you wish but detest you using the Bible to discriminate.

boob, when I apologized to all, that included you. No matter your politics, I don't wish in serious harm to come to you.

"--- Keep in mind, seeker, that you are in the minority. There are more non Christians than there are Christians in this world. ---"

"One plus God is a majority", or so the saying goes.

Sadly this is true: even when accounting for the 1.2Bn souls who could be umbrellaed together as "christians", whether Catholic, Protestant, Mormon, Evangelical, Fundamentalist, or otherwise, there are nearly as many Muslims and certainly as many Buddhists and other religions.

However, a religion (or even religious convictions) do not make one right. Only the Creator is righteous, and His word is truth, and is preserved through the power of His Son, who is called the Word of God, and our Redeemer King.

Therefore, because His words are Faithful and True, it behooves us to obey Him, and I must also deny that they are merely the written words of mere men (though God uses mere men to do His will and His work).

"-----
The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times. (Psalm 12:6, KJV)

-----

Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him. (Proverbs 30:5, KJV)

-----

For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost. (2 Peter 1:21, KJV)

-----

1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

2 The same was in the beginning with God.

3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men. (John 1:1-4, KJV)

-----

For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one. (1 John 5:7, KJV)

-----

And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life. (1 John 5:20, KJV)
-----"

Pleased be assured that regardless of what you or I may *think*, God's Word is absolute... and is absolutely true. In short, whenever it s a question of right or wrong, God is always right, and we are bound to be wrong when we stray from God's word.

I'd like to think that even here in America that Christians have some effective influence due to our numbers, (for the time being, Christians and Christian-minded folk are a majority in the USA) but this also is on the wane as Hollywood-sponsored godlessness, unbelief and hatred for God's ways becomes the norm for this nation.

However, as I said, the Bible-believing, Bible obedient Christian must resist evil, and where possible, do his part in our participatory, representative Republic to oppose any attempt by a corrupt state to turn God's law aside that it may embrace wickedness.

Evil is to be punished and restrained, and not sanctioned.

"Evil is to be punished and restrained, and not sanctioned."

So, please tell me seeker, is imprisoning and torturing a man without charges and bombing a country into the stone ages as evil as having affection for someone of the same sex?

jharp is still rewriting history. Democrats fought to keep the blacks as slaves. They established the KKK to try and force blacks to toe the line. Democrats fought the civil rights act tooth and nail until overridden by the republicans. KKK Kleagle Byrd (D) still serves in the Senate. The court system still hasn't changed or has gotten worse, the liberal judges do all kinds of crazy things in the name of liberalism, which is surely a mental illness. 90% of the blacks today are slaves to the liberal welfare system and the democrats dare not let it die or there goes 20 million votes. Add the dead voters to the 20 million welfare votes and very few working Americans vote for them.

for jharp:

Torture is definitely wrong. As is imprisoning citizens w/o charges.

Bombing nations with whom we are at a constitutionally declared war with should be done in a manner so as to limit the destruction done to noncombatants, i.a.w. Geneva conventions.

There are definitely flaws - especially where sinful and flawed people who conduct the war (focusing particularly on leadership) employs relativist reasoning toward the accomplishment of GWOT goals.

This is not to say that we should do evil in order that good may come; the Bible teaches us otherwise.

seeker isn't it funny how all those books say they have the one true God and/or faith? Why should I take your word over Mohammed's or anyone else's?

"90% of the blacks today are slaves to the liberal welfare system"

90% of blacks are on welfare? Hmm... but it's the liberals, not you, who are the racists?

got it.

Speaking of mixed marriages, C. Hitchens in Slate wonders whether Ms. Obama may be behind Barack's association with Wright. He also makes this point concerning Princeton and the high performance standards it demands of students.

"I direct your attention to Mrs. Obama's 1985 thesis at Princeton University. Its title (rather limited in scope, given the author and the campus) is "Princeton-Educated Blacks and the Black Community." To describe it as hard to read would be a mistake; the thesis cannot be "read" at all, in the strict sense of the verb. This is because it wasn't written in any known language."

Gee, if I had been granted admission to Princeton, forgive me this flight of fancy if you can, I could have written a thesis with a title like this, "Princeton-Educated Punks from Chicago and the Chicago Punk Community". They do say, don't they, that writers should write about what they know about.

LOL declares the question: "Why should I take your word over Mohammed's or anyone else's?"

I must agree with LOL, seek. It is widely recognized that Islam is the religion of peace. Ask Harpo, chris, Moe, or CAIR or Hamas; they'll tell you.

Tell me, Harpo, is torturing people with outlandish false charges just as bad as waterboarding? We haven't bombed any countries into the stone age, now have we, Harpo? Whom have we bombed into the stone age?

True, Democraticic President Truman gave the OK to use the A-bomb on two of Japan's cities. But in the long-run Japan with some help from us recovered and even surpassed its history. Well, not its military history.

"--- seeker isn't it funny how all those books say they have the one true God and/or faith? Why should I take your word over Mohammed's or anyone else's? ---"

LOL:

Well you see, that is where faith comes in.

But as Jesus said of Himself, if you are looking for someone to believe in, look at the fruit - the productive work - of His works. His ministry.

Healing the sick.

Raising the dead.

Giving sight to the blind.

Feeding the hungry.

And most of all, sacrificing His life for all of our sins, and having the power through God th Father to rise again to defeat death.

What did Mohammed or any other figure do along those lines?

Last I checked, Mohammed, though one might say is a product of his time and his culture (6th century Arabia) ... was not a man of peace by any stretch of the imagination.

Again, look at their works and compare them, and ask yourself again who would be the best example, and a prophet worth heeding.

"And for the intellectually challenged I'm aware Lincoln was a republican."

Actually Harpie you can take comfort in the truth about the end of slavery. Lincoln was dead as a hammer when slavery ended. It was a demonrat president and a repugnican congress who ended slavery.

After a long day of supporting the troops, I was driving home last night and, while stuck in traffic, was behind a crappy Econoline van. It had the requisite 'W04" sticker on on side and another that said "Proud of My Conservative Values". I wondered how proud the patriot-driver was of the fact that he drove around in a shitty van that got 12 miles to the gallon. At least he can sleep at night knowing that no A-rab was going to steal his precious means of transportation.

You heroes inspire me. Thank you for your service!!

"--- Lincoln was dead as a hammer when slavery ended. ---"

Aye, but it was Lincoln who was a principle "change agent", along with the other abolitionists who pressed the issue much to the ire of the slaveholding Democrats. Not that the Whigs were that much better, either.

"-- No matter your politics, I don't wish in serious harm to come to you. --"

Unless you're one of those gays, or atheists, or S[a]tan worshipping Muslims. Or, you know, you get inside shotgun range.

"-- So, please tell me seeker, is imprisoning and torturing a man without charges and bombing a country into the stone ages as evil as having affection for someone of the same sex? --"

Hey, God smote Sodom and Gamora, not to mention leveling Jericho. But you don't see him running around boofing people up the rear end, do you jharp?

Hold that thought on Lincoln: he might have had racist thoughts after all...

http://www.chuckbaldwinlive.com/rebel_flag.html

(pertinent quote is about halfway down this rather long article)

"---
Listen to what Lincoln said in a speech in Charleston, Illinois, 1858. Lincoln said, "I am not now nor have ever been in favor of bringing about in any way the social or the political equality of a White and Black races. I am not now, nor ever have been in favor of making voters or jurors of Negroes, nor of qualifying them to hold office, nor of intermarriages with white people. There is a physical difference between the white and black races, which will forever forbid the two races from living together on social or political equality. There must be a position of superior and inferior and I am in favor of assigning the superior position to the white man." - Abraham Lincoln.
---"

Another quote from the same article:

"---
Do you realize the South, before the War, was extremely wealthy? And the South before the War funded probably 75 to 80% of all the taxes. But the North wanted a 40% tariff. The south said no. The most we will ever agree to is a 10% tariff. And what Lincoln and the radical republicans were doing was this: They were saying we would give you the thirteenth amendment. We will let you keep your slaves if that is what you want. You just let us keep our tariffs. In other words, the North was willing to sell the blacks out for money, for higher taxes! They could care less.

You see, Hapgood's book, _Abraham_Lincoln,_The_Man_of_The_People_, on page 273, quotes Abraham Lincoln as saying, "If I could save the Union without freeing any of the slaves I would do it." Abraham Lincoln later said that slaves are property and if freed they should be paid for. Later on Lincoln said, "I have no purpose directly or indirectly to interfere with the institution of slavery in the states where it exists. I believe I have no lawful right to do so and I have no inclination to do so." Now here Lincoln is acknowledging that he has no lawful right to interfere with slavery. Slavery, by the way, was constitutional. All thirteen colonies agreed on it and by the way, in 1776, all thirteen colonies held slaves, not just the South, all of them! Lincoln said, "I have no lawful right to interfere nor," he says, "do I have an inclination to do so." In a letter to Alexander Stevens who happened to be later the Vice President of the Confederacy, Lincoln wrote and said this, "Do the people of the South really entertain fear that a Republican administration would directly or indirectly interfere with their slaves, or with them about their slaves? If they do, I wish to assure you that once, as a friend, and still I hope not as an enemy, that there is no cause for such fears. The South would be in no more danger in this respect than it was in the days of Washington." So once again, Lincoln is saying it's not over slavery.
---"

Personally, I'm a bigger fan of the "MLK was a Republican" wingnuts. Guys who will doggedly stand by and declare that King would have voted for Nixon and Reagen if he'd lived past '68 despite being spied on by Hoover's FBI, accused of being a communist by the National Review, and having his affirmative action and reparations ideas regularly used as a bogey-man of radical angry blackness by future Republican leaders.

The White Flight of the 70s and 80s never happened for the modern wingnut crowd. That Texas flipped from Dixiecrat Democrat to Redneck Republican - along with Mississippi and Alabama and Georgia and Florida - just proves how the modern GOP is way more racial friendly than those evil ACLU NAACP Voting Rights Act income redistribution modern day Democrats.

The fact that 92% of black people vote Democrat just proves how good the Democrats are at lying to black people. The fact that voter registration purges by GOP office holders target largely black neighborhoods is a pure coincidence.

For Moe:

"--- Hey, God smote Sodom and Gamora, not to mention leveling Jericho. ---"

And the attempted rape of Lot's guests and Lot himself by the citizens of Sodom and Gomorrah was only the icing on the cake , and not the cake itself.

God did not smite the Cities of the Plain because all the 'mos were hanging out there. He did so as a judgment upon them for several hundred years of selfishly closing up their hearts against the poor and defenseless, for their arrogant pride of live, and their wicked idolatry wherein they exalted themselves and the works of their hands above God.

In short, we might not be very surprised to find that ancient Sodom and Gomorrah (as well as the other cities that were destroyed, five in all) were quite like modern America, where secular humanism is assaulting faith, and seeks to exalt frail, sinful human experience against the everlasting and righteous God.

This vaunted "human wisdom" leads to abstracting away absolutes such as murdering infants and unborn babies as either "sacrifices for the greater good" (population control/earth fertility) or considering unborn children as "useless parasites, "blobs of flesh", or "unwanted trash". It also "allows" perversions and destructive deviances such as homosexuality and polyamory and heterosexual debauchery to flourish. And in the end, it results in a godless devaluation of life in all its ways, as some folks become "less human" than others, or are found to be disposable, as those who have the rulership decide that they are accountable to no one but themselves.

The homosexual rapists were a tiny, tiny fraction of the many symptoms which lead to those cities' judgments from God.

Jericho likewise, as well as the other Canaanite cities that were delivered up to the Israelites were under God's judgment... and remain as the only case for God's holy War. By which I mean that the directive to slay the wicked in the manner of the ancient Israelites is a not a standing order for today's Christians, but is a closed, fulfilled, and historical matter left in God's word to inform us of how God views sin, and the certain and terrible consequences of His judgments should we neglect to heed Him.

jharp, forget it. You'll never crack the elitst skull of an individual who can always find some phrase or passage in a book to justify his belief that others should not be afforded equal process. Such has been the case for all of human history. You see it doesn't matter what anyone *thinks* because *God* has already decreed X, Y, and Z!! Just ask the Taliban.

Me? "elitst" (sic) ?

But THC is right on one thing: What God says is final!

"--- For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven. (Psalm 119:89, KJV) ---"

"--- Thy word is true from the beginning: and every one of thy righteous judgments endureth for ever.(Psalm 119:160, KJV) ---"

Unlike the Taliban, we aren't trying to _kill_ homosexuals. We just disapprove of that sinful lifestyle, and to the degree that such a lifestyle is destructive, it should be prevented from being on an equal par with what God has established:

"---
4 And he answered and said to them, Have you not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female,

5 And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh?
---" (Matthew 19:4-5 KJV)

And let us not forget that we Christians aren't the ones trying to exterminate the Black race in America:

http://www.worldnetdaily.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=57526

Now that is some elitism from our lefty friends for sure.
