It troubles me greatly that the Left's response to any figure they don't like is now to monitor and parse their speech in an attempt to shut them down.
Apparently the New Left is having another 1984 moment. It seems the assassinations of a Civil Rights leader, a sitting president and his brother never happened. It's now a political death sentence to even mention them in passing.
How is one supposed to enjoy political blogging when this is the nonsense that leads the news cycle?
Though she has now apologized for that very strange and tasteless comment to the Argus-Leader, this was not the first time she's said it. This from her interview with TIME Managing Editor Richard Stengel, published March 6:
TIME: Can you envision a point at which--if the race stays this close--Democratic Party elders would step in and say, "This is now hurting the party and whoever will be the nominee in the fall"?
CLINTON: No, I really can't. I think people have short memories. Primary contests used to last a lot longer. We all remember the great tragedy of Bobby Kennedy being assassinated in June in L.A. My husband didn't wrap up the nomination in 1992 until June. Having a primary contest go through June is nothing particularly unusual.
Hillary would get the nod by default were Obama assassinated, whether she was still in, or not. She wasn't invoking it as a potential means of winning. And I don't think it resonates as a "fear" tactic. The dynamics are wrong as people loath to even think about it. I think she was pointing out that RFK was still running in June, as will she be, apparently, and nothing more.
For a nation that supposedly prides itself on freedom of expression, this new Left of ours is increasingly strident in its opposition to it. I guess they're just getting in touch with their totalitarian roots.
Here's a dose of reality - I wouldn't be surprised if over the years, throngs of politically involved people have had a thought, one they likely turned into a joke, however black - "Hey, maybe we'll get lucky and so and so will get assassinated and what's his name will get a shot?"
It doesn't even rise above coffee klatch quality as far as remarks go. But, don't even use the word in public ... the Left will want your head.
Screw them. It's too many tendencies like this that cause me great concern as far as the new Left ever getting control of this country.

Yoda,
"A gave you the link to the DOE report on govt coal usage restrictions (LPMEOH Methanol obviously being a coal process). That you've chosen not to avail yourself of this report isn't my problem."
If you want to share ideas I am all for it.
However, I won't go the trouble of reading a 97 page government report that has nothing to do with my original post about a question you asked me.
What are you thinking? Really?

"By the way my "pint o piss" remark was in reference to ANWR and I stand by it."
Problem is...I didn't say anything about ANWR
No shit. I was the one who did.
And I didn't say anything about methanol. You did, and somehow tied it to my "pint o' piss" remark.
Put the bong away and sober up and I'd like to hear why you think methanol isn't being exploited.

Exclusive to the New York Daily News - Hillary explains it all
http://www.nydailynews.com/news/politics/2008/05/25/2008-05-25_hillary_why_i_continue_to_run.html
"This past Friday, during a meeting with a newspaper editorial board, I was asked about whether I was going to continue in the presidential race.
I made clear that I was - and that I thought the urgency to end the 2008 primary process was unprecedented. I pointed out, as I have before, that both my husband's primary campaign, and Sen. Robert Kennedy's, had continued into June.
Almost immediately, some took my comments entirely out of context and interpreted them to mean something completely different - and completely unthinkable.
I want to set the record straight: I was making the simple point that given our history, the length of this year's primary contest is nothing unusual. Both the executive editor of the newspaper where I made the remarks, and Sen. Kennedy's son, Bobby Kennedy Jr., put out statements confirming that this was the clear meaning of my remarks. Bobby stated, "I understand how highly charged the atmosphere is, but I think it is a mistake for people to take offense."

Will Media Report Obama's Gaffe About When Hugo Chavez Came to Power?
Photo of Noel Sheppard.
By Noel Sheppard | May 25, 2008 - 15:14 ET
Democrat presidential candidate Barack Obama made another gaffe on the campaign trail Friday when he suggested at a luncheon hosted by the Cuban American National Foundation that Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez came to power while George W. Bush was in the White House.
Chavez was first elected president in 1998, and reelected in 2000, both occurring while Bill Clinton was serving his second term.
This was not the only gaffe Obama made in Florida Friday, for at another campaign stop, the junior senator from Illinois several times referred to the city of Sunrise as "Sunshine." This comes a week after calling Sioux Falls, South Dakota, "Sioux City," and two weeks after saying that America has 57 states.
Will Obama-loving media ever cover these gaffes?

Clinton in trouble with her black constituents in New York
http://www.latimes.com/news/printedition/asection/la-na-clintonblacks25-2008may25,0,4753203.story
Many of the officials back the presidential bid of Illinois Sen. Barack Obama, Clinton's rival for the Democratic nomination, though they say they have long supported the Clintons, defending him in the past and supporting her Senate run.
Their sentiments reflect the peculiar arc of the 2008 campaign. Black voters were once central to the Clinton family's political identity and base of support. But that relationship has been strained by the emergence of a charismatic African American candidate who has been propelled by black voters.
"The Clintons have their die-hard fans who would never abandon them," said Eric Adams, a state senator who represents Brooklyn. "But there are those New Yorkers who feel there was a lot of insult, slight and disrespect toward an African American candidate, and it translated as a slight to the African American community."
Clinton's campaign declined to comment. In New York, she still enjoys the support of some high-profile black leaders. U.S. Rep. Charles Rangel has endorsed Clinton, as has the state's first black governor, David Paterson. But both men have been critical of her recently.
Rangel told reporters this month that her claim she has the support of white voters was "the dumbest thing she could ever have said." Clinton later agreed with that.
Paterson recently told a radio show he saw "desperation" in Clinton's effort to count in her favor disputed delegates from Michigan and Florida. Clinton's dwindling chance of winning the nomination includes snagging as many Florida and Michigan delegates as possible.
As the campaign unfolded, both Clintons made comments that some black leaders deemed dismissive of Obama. There was Bill Clinton's suggestion that Obama's victory in South Carolina carried no more weight than Jesse Jackson's success there in the 1980s. Other sore points were Hillary Clinton's claim that she enjoys the support of "hard-working Americans, white Americans" and the credit she gave to President Lyndon Johnson -- rather than the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. -- on civil rights legislation.
"There has been a consistent pattern of comments made by both Sen. Clinton and President Clinton from January until this moment that are deeply troubling to the African American community," said Assemblyman Hakeem Jeffries, whose district is in Brooklyn. "That will require meaningful reconciliation and discussion when Sen. Clinton returns to New York."

Maxine Waters showing her socialist/communist ways
http://www.rachellucas.com/
A video that will give you shivers…
…but not in a good way, that’s a holy promise. Democrat Rep. Maxine Waters during a House hearing with oil executives - about 1 minute 9 seconds in:
Link: sevenload.com
Via Hot Air, who provides this transcript:
“And guess what this member* would be all about? This member would be all about socializing — er, uh. [Pauses for several moments] …. would be about … [pause] … basically … taking over, and the government running all of your companies.”
The asterisk is theirs, and the footnote is that some commenters are hearing “liberal” instead of member. They need to dump the asterisk and the footnote because that crazy bitch is definitely saying “liberal,” very obviously the second time she says it. Which isn’t even close to the scariest thing about it, which makes it all that much scarier.
Allahpundit points out that not only is a catastrophically stupid idea she has there, but that the proper term is “nationalization,” for what it’s worth. It’s okay to be just as horrified, though, right?

"--- "Microsoft's net profit margin is 30.4%! Since I'm using Windows software on my computer, does that make me the victim of "price-gouging" by Microsoft?" ---"
Only when I'm at work, using my work PC. But then, that would be the company's PC, and their "gouging" by the evil M$ minions.
At home, I use either my iTouch or my Linux box usually.
Of course, gas is entirely another thing, as I really cannot avoid using gas, unless I want to try to ride a bike (and risk getting killed in areas with very poor traffic design and crazy NY drivers, and of course, NY winters not being particularly bike friendly quickly puts the kibosh on that).
So unless and until prices get so high that auto manufacturers start making more PHEV (electric/hybrid) cars, better sidewalks/bike paths, and mass transit, I'll be forking over ever larger parts of my formerly disposable income to feed my tiny Japanese commuter car.
And before BiS starts mewling about my car choices, if I wanted to make car payments, I could easily, but I'd rather drop that kind of money into my non-dollar denominated investment portfolio.
And yes, jharp: much of the gas price crisis is derived from the utterly crappy value of the dollar (as well as commodities speculation and hedge fund shenanigans).

From a John Bolton piece in the WSJ:
"Negotiation is not a policy. It is a technique. Saying that one favors negotiation with, say, Iran, has no more intellectual content than saying one favors using a spoon. For what? Under what circumstances? With what objectives? On these specifics, Mr. Obama has been consistently sketchy."
This is the same Obama story as with the unequivocal support of Hope and Change. But there is good change and bad change. Nationalizing the oil industry can only be a Bad Change. Lower taxes and smaller government can be good change. There is optimism and there is hope. Optimism is active, it associates with action. People who open businesses are said to be optimistic. Hope is passive and is not associated intrinsically in any way with action. Hope is the activity of the dreamer in his rocking chair.
Most of all, though, being in favor of "negotiating" in a vacuum and being in favor of hope and change is not a policy, a philosophy, a theory, a system. It is a wool blanket to throw over the heads of emotional voters. Dems, you are being badly suckered.

Posted by: jharp | Monday, May 26, 2008 at 12:30 PM
Telling a nation - says Iran - you won't negotiate them until they meet some criteria is certainly a policy. Negotiating can't be separated out as some "technique" - it's part and parcel of the policy.
Looks like we agree on Free Speech, Fred. It's not a Democratic or Republican issue. Both party's have abused free speech rights and all Americans should look to defend those rights regardless of who's in power and who you did or did not vote for.

Actually, Obama's demise would be too melodramatic and lionize him even more than he's already being deified as a "Black Messiah" (ironically) by the godless far left, the Dems, and all of Obama's frenzied followers and
"Obamamoonies." Hell, they may even become convinced he can raise himself from the dead! I wish him a long life - to let him make an ass of himself.
Obama's demise would only make him into another Martin Luther King "Martyr", and we would wind up having to have an "Obama National Holiday" in February!
Just think, if Martin Luther King had not been assasinated and made into a "National Icon" even as he was sliding back into relative irrelevance and obscurity as one of many voices in the Civil Rights Movement back in 1968, he may well have been now nothing more than another aging, Civil Rights Movement, "Welfare Pimp of Eternal Black Victimization"... like his comrades, so called "Reverends" Jesse Jackson, and Al Sharpton, and not the lionized
"American Hero" they have made of him.
I am Pro-Life, but I hate to admit if ever there was a time that an abortion would have served "The Uses of Life", would have been if Obama's Atheist, rebellious, Jungle-Fever-strucked mother, would have had "access" to one. I'm sure if that had been the case, Obama would not be with us today.
Ah! To think of all the trouble and chagrin we may have saved ourselves... not to metion the loomning misery we would have spared America and the world!

Was Clinton right to do this?
The Clinton administration ordered that either the protestors be controlled, or the government would cancel the WTO meeting. Seattle mayor Paul Schell declared a State of Emergency and ordered a curfew in downtown Seattle, among other measures. The National Guard and the Washington State Patrol were also called in to help maintain order. Police were ordered to clear downtown crowds, and forced their retreat to Belltown and lower Capitol Hill. During this forced retreat many businesses were vandalized by 'anarchist' protestors.

Lala,
Was Clinton right to do this?
Yes, I'd say he was. And I hope everyone sees the difference in two clearly different situations.
The morning of November 30 was a different story. Protestors in the street forced the delay of the WTO opening ceremonies. Further problems developed when youthful, out-of-control, self-proclaimed 'anarchists' joined the more serious WTO-focused protestors. By early afternoon, the unprepared Seattle Police Department (SPD) ran low on tear gas, bus service was suspended downtown, and many businesses closed their doors. Yes, these free speech problems are troubling:

Obama campaign officials then summoned police to arrest Vicki Andrews, 63, Grand Rapids, MI; Diane Haugesag, 48, Minneapolis, MN; David Hovde, 37, Evanston, IL; Kathy Kelly, 55, Chicago, IL; Dan Pearson, 26, Chicago, IL; Tom Roddy, 76, Evanston, IL; Brian Terrell, 50, Maloy, IA; and John Tuzcu, 23, Des Moines, IA.
All eight were charged with trespassing and transported to the Polk County Jail to be held overnight for arraignment on Jan. 3, the Iowa activists having declined the opportunity to be released immediately in solidarity with activists from other states who are typically held overnight.

http://thereaganwing.wordpress.com/2007/12/08/pro-lifer-attacked-with-club-threatened-with-arrest-during-clinton-protest/
FORT MADISON, Iowa, Dec. 8 /CNW/ — Pro-lifers with graphic signs were attacked by a man wielding a club during a protest at a Hillary Clinton campaign stop in Fort Madison, Iowa, on Friday, yet responding police threatened to arrest the pro-lifers if they did not immediately leave the public sidewalk. The incident was captured on video.
Police were parked across the street from where Dan Holman of Missionaries to the Pre-Born was standing on a public sidewalk on December 7, when a man in a pickup truck got out of his vehicle and approached Holman with a club, shouting at him to get off his property. Holman was attacked and struck with the club.
“The man continued to try and assault me in the presence of three Fort Madison police officers,” Holman told Operation Rescue. “Rather than arresting the attacker the police threatened to arrest me! The police acknowledged that I was on a public right of way but said our presence posed a traffic hazard.”

I agree Lala. The people at Obama's office shouldn't have been arrested. Same for Mr. Holman.
If you're really for free speech, you've got to be for it when you don't agree with what's being said.
So I assume you also agree that people wearing anti-war t-shirts or having anti-war bumper stickers shouldn't be arrested simply for that.

People can wear whatever they want and say whatever they want as far as I am concerned, but when they are doing it on private property the owner has the right to ask them to leave. You may not believe that a mall is private property but it is.

Protest Pens and Mass Arrests: Where Do We Go From Here?
By Kersten Swinyard | Dec 15, 2004 Print
I approached the pen through a gauntlet of fencing—chain-link, nylon netting and concrete pylons. The protest zone at the Democratic National Convention in Boston was a policed corner of new asphalt within sight, but not sound, of the Fleet Center, Democrat Central for four days in late July.
Coiled barbed wire dangled from overhead freeway supports. Six-foot-tall chain-link fences extended above double rows of concrete highway barriers. Nearly opaque nylon netting made it tough to see out, but more importantly, it made it impossible to throw liquid at DNC delegates.

Having had an exceptional Father myself, I know of several black men it would have been an Honor to have called Father - Alberto Garcia (you wouldn't know him), and "nappy-haired" Thomas Sowell himself amongst others!
Check him out: http://www.tsowell.com/
This is not so much abour race , as about "ideologies"! Exploiting "race" and "class" differences (which would be absurd in today's world since all those with the money, seem to be the ones with the less "class"!)in order to advance the nearly defunct Marxist agenda!
No one should talk about Marxism, Leninism, Communism, Socialism, or all the other permutations of Marxism, without first having lived through it!!!
Obama is an ideological "Marxist"! In these troubled times, we can't afford, out of "White Guilt" or sheer naivete and stupidity, to make of the United States of America another "Cuba"...following this false "Black Orpheus Messiah who will 'magically' set the wolrd aright"!
By the way, about your "handle", "Worst President Ever", it's not only disingenuous, but inaccurate. Jimmy "Let's Betray Iran and the Shah" Carter is the worst president ever...and he still strives to cause as much affliction on the world, in his naivete, as he can! God save us all from Jimmy Carter - TRAITOR!
On their Post "Jimmy Carter - America's Worst President And Traitorous Former President" they have told it like it is - in black and white (no pun intended). Check it out.
Maybe you should have a reality check and see this interesting piece in Hyscience:
http://www.hyscience.com/archives/2008/05/jimmy_carter_am_1.php
This brings up a good point, in the comments, as to whether, compared to Carter, Pelosi, Reid and the Dems, Benedict Arnold was more of a Patriot and should, by today's standards, be restituted to the Pantheon of American Revolutionary Heroes:
"After all, Arnold - as the Dems often use as an excuse for their treasonous actions nowadays - only wanted what he "thought best" for the Colonies and his decision to side with the Red Coats was just a matter of "difference of opinion." And we have to admit, Arnold got to be a Major General because of his bravery, and was not a wimpy weasel... like Carter."
"So, why don't we redeem Benedict Arnold, and place traitorous Carter in his place?"
Althor
I like this guy Althor. He doesn't "mince words!
Here is another "politically incorrect" comment by Althor that will make your "commie" blood boil:
"Obama's Ten Commandments"
It would even seem the Media, in effect, is adhering to the following unwritten, "Ten Commandments" practiced by devoted Obama Acolytes, and the Obamamoonies:
1. "Obama is the Lord your Messiah You shall not have any others before him - screw Hillary."
2. "Thou shall not take the name of Obama your Messiah in vain by ever mentioning his middle name 'Hussein.'"
3. "Remember to keep the Obama Rallies Holy and faint and swoon in ecstasy - with religious fervor."
4. "Thou shall honor Obama's communist Kenyan Father, whoring white-trash mother, Rev. Wright, Bill Ayers, and all his mentors - God Damn America!"
5. "Thou shall not kill Islamofacists and Terrorists."
6. "White women shall only breed with blacks - a white woman pairing with a white male is abhorrent and racist. It is 'Adultery' of the 'Browning of America'"
7. "Thou shall overtax and steal from the rich and the hardworking to fund Welfare and subsidize the poor
"victimized negroes" living in the 'Hood' in the 'Projects' and the 'Ghettoes.' Remember that for them to work a job would be 'slavery' and thou must pay for their crime-ridden lifestyles and support their addictions - Remember, your Lord Obama once 'snorted.'"
8. "Thou shall not say the truth about Obama or question his patriotism, experince, integrity, or Marxist affiliations in any way."
9. "Thou shall covet your neighbor's goods and 'Nationalize'
all Private Enterprise - as Messiah Obama learned from the 'Great Prophet,' Karl Marx!"
10. "Thou shall revere Obama's wife ('Hail! Michelle Full of Disgrace, Obama be with you...') no matter how anti-American, resented, and uncouth the bitch is; and "covet" her swarthy beauty (ugliness?), even though physically - as well as in her vitriolic Marxist rhetoric, gesticulating, and mannerisms - she resembles Hugo Chavez wearing a wig."
Of course, those "infidels" that do not follow the above commandments and vote for McCain, will be doomed to "Hell" and cast out into that broad expanse of "nothingness" between the two "Latte-Sipping Blue Coasts" : A third "Bush Term." Oh no! Just the thought! Aghhh.... Save us Obama! Save us!
Althor :)
This Althor guy makes a great point!

I have to disagree somewhat with the whole argument concerning interracial marriages (in fact, I think that there would be a lot *less* animus between the so-called "races" if people were more willing to consider interracial marriage).
For God says:
"-----
26 And [God] hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation;
27 That they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far from every one of us:
28 For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring.
29 Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man's device.
-----"
(Acts 17:26-29, KJV)
Therefore, as we are all offspring of Adam and Eve, we do better, if we can view one another as extended family.
The only division that truly matters is the spiritual division between believers [in Christ] and unbelievers.
That said, I do tire of all the continued race-baiting from both sides of this seemingly uniquely American phenomenon where blacks play Perpetual Victim to the benefit of White Guilt, and condescension (mostly) on the part of liberal white elites looking to court minority votes, and not caring a whit for the fortunes or well being of their victims/constituents.
The other side of this is the ever increasing expectation by government (either GOP or Democrat) that "We, the People" are essential far too stupid to take care of ourselves, and must be held by the tender hand for everything in a patronizing, if not paternalistic manner.

Great! Recently they were trying to give "legal rights" to a chimpanzee in Austria, and being that chimps share 98% of their DNA with us, what is next? Inter-species marriages?
DISCLAIMER: "Any similarity between certain black individuals and other primates is purely coincidental" (99% of the DNA perhaps?) :)

"--- Great! Recently they were trying to give "legal rights" to a chimpanzee in Austria, and being that chimps share 98% of their DNA with us, what is next? Inter-species marriages? ---"
Dunno about that. Given the opportunity and enough immoral permissiveness which is becoming the hallmark of our culture in these last days, a sinful and wicked people would probably accept "inter-species" marriage and "animals rights" on a par with human rights.
For it is written:
"----
21 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,
23 And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.
24 Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:
25 Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.
-----"
(Romans 1:21-25, KJV)
Because we are fast becoming a nation which neither worships nor gives thanks to God, God is letting us "have our way", which includes Earth/Gaia worship, witchcraft, mainstreaming homosexuality, and bestiality.
But to say that interracial marriage = bestiality is a bit preposterous, and certainly racist.
Between the different people groups ("races") there is only a difference of 0.2% in the DNA base pairs of any two humans.
The differences between Chimps and Humans are an entire order of magnitude at 2%.
To suggest the blacks are "genetically closer" to chimps is racist and incorrect, a lie of the devil, and can only even begin to approach the test for validity if you accept atheistic evolution and reject God's redemption for ALL mankind.
It is dangerous ground we tread when we begin to "believe" that some people are more or less closer to being beasts than mankind, and it is the same thinking that sent millions to their deaths in Nazi extermination camps.
