Us 72%ers are troubled that you idiots have screwed up this country to the point we're at now. No bin Laden, no WMDs - just a lot of debt and a floundering economy. You patriots have done a heckuva job! The party ends 11/8.

Even though I dislike McCain I'm going to vote for him just so I can enjoy screwing with BobinStamford's head.

BS, President Bush is serving two terms and you failed to impeach.

Heh.

Agreed -- the speech-stifling impulse of the left is the story behind the story not only of this campaign but of our political times. That and the credulus conservatives going along with the stupid "outrage" meme. (I've always considered Mary Katherine Ham an overrated lightweight and now it's confirmed.) Moreover, I find it more plausible Clinton was referring to herself not Obama, trying to preemptively martyr herself as the surging candidate in the mold of Bobby tragically cut short of his/her mission.

"President Bush is serving two terms and you failed to impeach."

The victories keep rolling in. You must be very proud of your leader. Now go buy some $4 gas, patriot!!!

Memeorandum was clogged with this story this AM. No discussion of any real issue no matter how important has been given the coverage of Hill's gaffe. I would like to call it "overkill", but I don't want to become part of the story. Meanwhile in Congress the Rebops have joined the Bops in raping the taxpayers. Now why in the world is approval of Congress so far down the drain?

And the BDS victims keep taking their eye off the ball. What a shame, eh, Boob?

Bobby Kennedy's son did not take offense at what Clinton said so why should any one else?

BTW my favorite writer, Mark Steyn, is going before the Canadian Human Rights Commission's kangaroo court soon.

"Us 72%ers are troubled that you idiots have screwed up this country..."

You XX%ers, Boob, are the ones responsible for our gasoline woes. You remember, perhaps, Anwar and the cold coast of Alaska, "is barren and bare, no seed-time nor harvest was ever known there; and the birds here sing sweetly on mountain and dale, but there is nie a birdie ta sing ta the whale." No drilling, no peace.

Unless Americans decide to embrace liberty and freedom as our forefathers did in 1776, we are doomed to be slaves to the Left's wishes, competing for minimal wages in the globalist cesspool, with Mama Gummint telling us what to do.

And before anyone gets too antsy about that above statement, no, I am not necessarily arguing for armed revolution [utterly futile] or for secession [unlikely and taboo by decree, thanks to Lincoln]... rather, it is time for a change in our basic political paradigm.

Unfortunately, it seems that a great many Americans are thankful for their tax stimulus rebate checks, and failing to recognize that such checks would not be necessarily if we were bold enough to keep our representatives on a short chain, and the federal government properly weakened, and our zaibatsu/military-industrial complex less in the driver's seat of that government.

The left-right discourse has lost, and the GOP/Democratic dialectics have failed our Republic.

Vote for Constitutionalists, if you love your freedoms.

Hmm...let me see, the "great" President Clinton vetoed a bill passed by Congress in 1995 that would have opened up ANWR for drilling. It takes about ten years for an oil field to make full potential, so we would have around 1.5-2 million barrels of oil per day now online. There would be no oil shortage. Bill Clinton, by virtue of that veto, is personally responsible for this mess we have today, namely $4 gasoline. Bob, you ought to at least study recent history before making your stupid statements.

I wholly support succession and wish the noble people of Redneckistan my very best. Think of a place where the earth is flat and cooling, abortion and dentistry are illegal and Dale Earnhardt is on the dollar bill! Sounds like 'heaven'.

templar,

"It takes about ten years for an oil field to make full potential, so we would have around 1.5-2 million barrels of oil per day now online."

You know as well as I do that ANWR drilling doesn't amount to a pint of piss.

Though it might make up for some of the lost production in Iraq due to Bush's invasion.

You interested in why oil prices are outta sight?

Take a look at the value of the U.S. dollar.

"You interested in why oil prices are outta sight?"

Look at how congress has tied the hands and feet of domestic producers.

Yoda,

"You interested in why oil prices are outta sight?"

Look at how congress has tied the hands and feet of domestic producers.

I have looked at it and it doesn't amount to a pint of piss.

Have you taken a look at the fall of the dollar?

Please do. It's in all of our best interests to have educated voters.

November 30, 2004.

It has since gotten worse. Much worse.

"Oil producers sell their products in dollars. These dollars are used to purchase other goods in international markets. As the dollar lost its value starting in 2002, oil producers could afford to buy less in international markets with their dollars. To compensate for this loss of buying power, they may have raised the dollar price for oil. As a result, while oil prices in dollars rose by 162 percent from their low point in January 2002, they climbed by less than half that rate measured in euros, 77 percent. At that rate, oil prices would have only risen to $34 per barrel in October 2004, instead of the actual $52, without changes in the dollar’s value."

"I wholly support succession..."

Hopefully they will teach their children to spell and the difference between "succession" and "secession" there. YAY for Ivy League eddycayshun!!!

I love you guys. Criticizing speech = OMGZ Teh LEFT HATES FREE SPEEEECHHHS!!!!

Quick, I heard that Rachel Ray wore an Arafat rag in Dunkin Donuts spot. Someone get on that!

"it doesn't amount to a pint of piss."

Let's see, the oil man says drilling anwar would have helped.....The guy who imports high quality 'Asian' goods, says it's a pint o' piss...... I think we should jump on the importer's wagon since he's sure to know more than the oil guy. There is value to his poor USD argument however, of course the capitalist didn't seem to take into account competition for that same oil by his 'Asian' manufacturer friends also causing a rise in prices.

Willie,

Do the math.

Saudi Arabia could solve the problem but refuses to increase output.

Why do you suppose that is?

I think it's time for George Bush to go hold hands with the Saudi prince again and jawbone him into producing more oil.

Wasn't that one of his campaign promises?

So Hilda makes an unfortunate statement and people get excited. These candidates must be feeling the long march for pity sake. She meant nothing but a history lesson and her reason for not dropping out of the race. You really have to give her credit for hanging in there...though the supplication for a VP post is a bit....sad.

Thoughts and prayers for Teddy the K.........Imagine what would've have been said here if it were a repugnican senator given such a diagnosis.

Willie,

Aren't you going to ask about my fishing trip?

Willie, thank you for your objective approach. Regardless of what jharp says, oil would be lower today if we had an extra 1.5-2m bopd. How much lower is subject to debate, but suffice it to say that it would make a difference in balance of payments of $60-80 billion per year, if nothing else. That's a hell of a lot more than a pint of piss, jharp.

And did you catch any fish, jharp? Or are you only gonna talk about oil prices?

"Do the math."

There's no math to do my friend. We have PLENTY of our own oil, Chavez oil can only be refined in the US (still true TK?)and Canada and Mexico have loads. The US for dozens of years has made themselves more and more dependant on mid-east oil. Can't really blame "BIG OIL" though because those countries do things to attract their business while the US taxes and regulates them right off shore. Gwana be even worse when Obie starts taxing their 'windfall' profits forcing even more companies to leave the country. But then, you make your living from ex-pat companies, yes?

"Aren't you going to ask about my fishing trip?"

Harpie, I apologize for the slip o' memory. I've been up to doing stuff and not checked in for a bit. It was Michigan, muskies and such right?

"But then, you make your living from ex-pat companies, yes?"

Yes, I do. Unfortunately that is what sells. I'd love to do it for U.S companies and actually did at one time.

The fishing sucked. Couldn't even go out two days as weather sucked even worse. Folks are struggling up there. Gas was $4.26.

And price of oil debate is a good one that I can't do tonight. I'll catch up and try to add to it later.

Correction.

It's really not accurate to call them expats. They are simply foreign companies.

Sorry your trip didn't go well. Weather is not good here either and the area is crowded with touristas. Gas doesn't seem to be hurting it much though the local draw is mostly in-state folks until school is out. Speaking of weather, I heard that Pookie the LLama spoke kindly to someone and caused a hail storm in Austin. Peeples thought hell was freezing over.

We can gnash fuel prices but we just as well prepare for even worse. I do feel for those folks who dont make much to start with and now have to fight such a gross added expense. It would help a little to drop the 48 cent per gallon I pay in taxes.

On oil and the lefty moonbats, between the Bakken Formation, the Green River Formation, Alaska and our three coasts we have more oil than the Saudis just the greennuts won't let us touch it while China is drilling 50 miles off Key West and I doubt they have any environmental hangups.
On Hillary and assasination, if Barack were to make her his VP, he would need to hire a food taster.

"On Hillary and assasination, if Barack were to make her his VP, he would need to hire a food taster."

LOL, Hilda worries me too, can't be trusted. Susan George looked a lot nicer with Ken Norton in Mandingo I think.

Open letter to Congressjerk Boyd(D) and Seniletor Marinez(R)

Dear Distinguished Congressjerks:

Perhaps it may have come to the attention of one of your lower-level staff members that there has been a slight but somewhat noticeable increase in the price of oil, and I guess gasoline too. We need to make it possible for drilling and refining to begin as soon as possible in remote areas both liquid and solid.

Therefore I ask you to immediately legalize drilling in the Gulf of Mexico over the line-of-sight from a 35-story condo and anywhere at all on Alaska's North Coast. Your timely attention to this matter will be very much appreciated and will gain you my votes in the next election.

BTW, no drilling, no peace.

Your Obedient Master,
Fred Beloit, Bay County, FL

Republicans are SO much stronger supporters of Free Speech, just as long as your speech agress with them:

A couple arrested at a rally after refusing to cover T-shirts that bore anti-President Bush slogans settled their lawsuit against the federal government for $80,000, the American Civil Liberties Union announced Thursday.

***
Capitol Police dropped a charge of unlawful conduct against antiwar activist Cindy Sheehan on Wednesday and apologized for ejecting her and a congressman’s wife from President Bush’s State of the Union address for wearing T-shirts with war messages.

***
A lawyer was arrested late Monday and charged with trespassing at a public mall in the state of New York after refusing to take off a T-shirt advocating peace that he had just purchased at the mall.

***
An 80-year-old church deacon was removed from the Smith Haven Mall yesterday in a wheelchair and arrested by police for refusing to remove a T-shirt protesting the Iraq War.

***
The Secret Service in Washington last week sent agents to Denver to probe allegations by three area Democrats that they were ousted from Bush's March 21 event. The three did not stage any protest at the rally and were later told by the Secret Service they were removed because an anti-Bush bumper sticker was displayed on their vehicle.

You know, Mr. Ever, that it is customary to credit sites that you copy from. You Dems are certainly rude and plagiaristic.

Mr. Ever, you are all for free speech if you can steal it.

Fred,
The two mall incidents were on private property and the management of the malls wanted the people removed because they were afraid of trouble developing, which is just what the protesters wanted.

Here's one of the articles, better than that little paragraph taken out of context

http://www.boston.com/news/nation/washington/articles/2005/04/24/secret_service_eyes_volunteer_who_tossed_3_from_bush_event/

Dear Fred,

Your glorious stretch of the Redneck Riviera voted 72.5% in 2004 for that stammering fool that you call your leader. As such, you and your kind has no say in a post-Bush world. Hide your guns and save your money. Thank you for your service.

Sincerely,

Teh Congress

No Fred, TypePad won't let me post the links. But with a little practice with Google, you can find all the articles.

And no one infringed Hillary's free speech rights. She wasn't arrested, detained, or censored, unlike the Bush / War protestors. Her words were protested, which is still a right.

Here's more, no links since TypePad won't accept the post with the links in it:

An antiwar speech by Cindy Sheehan, the mother of an American soldier killed in Iraq, was cut short yesterday after the organizer of the event was arrested and police officers confiscated his audio equipment.

****
More than a dozen members of an antiwar veterans group were arrested yesterday as they protested the exclusion of their message from Boston’s Veterans Day parade.

****
When Bush went to the Pittsburgh area on Labor Day 2002, 65-year-old retired steel worker Bill Neel was there to greet him with a sign proclaiming, "The Bush family must surely love the poor, they made so many of us."

The local police, at the Secret Service's behest, set up a "designated free-speech zone" on a baseball field surrounded by a chain-link fence a third of a mile from the location of Bush's speech.

***
Hawver said he was arrested after holding up a sign that said "Stop War" during Bush's speech. He said a Kansas Republican Party representative instructed two men to arrest and remove him from the gathering.

***
A secret FBI intelligence unit helped detain a group of war protesters in a downtown Washington parking garage in April 2002 and interrogated some of them on videotape about their political and religious beliefs, newly uncovered documents and interviews show.

Thanks Lala.

Mr. Ever says: "Here's more, no links since TypePad won't accept the post with the links in it:"

Goooooollllllyyyyyyyy, More evidence of Bush oppression. I link with TypePad all the time with no problems, Mr. Ever. Bush is censoring you. That Bush sure is one dumb evil genius.

Or just maybe nobody likes a prose gonef.

"An antiwar speech by Cindy Sheehan, the mother of an American soldier killed in Iraq, was cut short yesterday after the organizer of the event was arrested and police officers confiscated his audio equipment."

Now this is really odd, Mr. Ever. I have seen this woman on television, on youtube, in the newspapers, all over the media spouting her drivel. Who arrested her "producer"? Some branch of the federal police?

But it is up to you, not me, to source your comments. Do your own homework. I've got nitwits like the Boob to deal with. Or you could just be like him. Say nothing new. Just repeat the same ole same ole.

No Fred, TypePad has a threshold for the number of links it allows in a post after which it thinks the post is potentially spam, and the forum's moderator has to approve the post before it's published. With soooo many examples of suppression of Free Speech rights by the Bush Administration, it's impossible to add a link for every article and have it go through.

So Fred, are you for Free Speech? Or against it?

Dear Mr. (Selwyn) Duke,

I can empathize with Mr. Sampson. I've been through the same sort of ordeal. After retiring from the U.S. Navy, I accepted a position with Chicago's Museum of Science and Industry as its Manager of Safety (I'm a safety engineer). After four years there, a female (black-militant) employee noticed my tie bar (Celtic knot-work with the emblem of my Celtic family - despite my Iberian surname, gained by being adopted, my genetic heritage is Scot/Irish) and asked me what it was. Stupidly, I responded, ‘This? Oh, it's just my clan badge [referring to the Scottish clan from which he was descended].'

I'll leave it to you to guess what ensued. I'll tell you this: by the next morning, the rumor that I had been ‘outed' as a Klansman had spread, like wildfire, through the ranks of the museum's black employees (~ 60%). Two security officers frog-marched me out of a class I had been teaching (with every black person in the room glaring at me, with utter loathing!) and escorted me to my boss's office -- there to be grilled by him. Later in the day, I was called back in and fired from my position.

"I have looked at it and it doesn't amount to a pint of piss."

So why is it again that we're not cranking out Methanol for $.60/gal (or about $1.20 for a gallon of gasoline equivalent power) using the LPMEOH process which the DOE says works fine and has already been pilot tested? Refresh my memory. Please be specific.

By my math, that $1.20 production cost for a gasoline gallon equivalent is about half the cost of equivalent ethanol and doesn't contain a massive govt subsidy either.

To begin your education on how odious restrictions are, I suggest starting here: http://fossil.energy.gov/epact/epact437_final_rpt.pdf

Table ES-1 clearly shows how little the Federal govt has made available in just the Powder River basis for coal mining (close to 80% of the land bearing coal has impediments of some sort or another and hasn't been developed thusfar)

Why don't we lift the restrictions on ethanol from Brazil?

"So why is it again that we're not cranking out Methanol for $.60/gal (or about $1.20 for a gallon of gasoline equivalent power) using the LPMEOH process which the DOE says works fine and has already been pilot tested? Refresh my memory. Please be specific."

I don't know. Why don't you tell me?

Could it be the oil companies are profiting immensely with the status quo and wish to preserve the situation?

I tend to follow the money to draw conclusions and it rarely fails me.

Yoda,

By the way my "pint o piss" remark was in reference to ANWR and I stand by it.

If that is what you meant by refresh my memory.

I'm for,Ever.

"By the way my "pint o piss" remark was in reference to ANWR and I stand by it."

Problem is...I didn't say anything about ANWR

"I don't know. Why don't you tell me?"

A gave you the link to the DOE report on govt coal usage restrictions (LPMEOH Methanol obviously being a coal process). That you've chosen not to avail yourself of this report isn't my problem.

Profit is an incentive to investment.

Please read that sentence until you understand it. Investment is essential to economic growth, and nobody would invest without the hope of profit.

* Exxon-Mobil's net 2007 profit margin: 10%.
* Starbucks' net 2007 profit margin: 7.1%.

Which is more important to the "wider economy" -- petroleum production and distribution, or mocha lattes?

* Exxon-Mobil has 106,400 employees worldwide.
* Starbucks has 194,807 employees worldwide.

So Starbucks has 83% more employees than Exxon-Mobil. Given that Exxon-Mobil is No. 2 on the Fortune 500 list and Starbucks is No. 277, what does this tell you about differences in the economic output of the average employee of the two companies?

Exxon is the more productive enterprise; its product is more valuable; its capital investment is larger. It is, therefore, more profitable -- and I certainly hope it continues to be profitable. If Exxon ever loses money, we're doomed.

The world's largest petroleum refiner is only clearing 10 cents on the dollar of its revenues, which scarcely justifies the demonization they get from the economic ignoramuses in the media and on Capitol Hill.

Microsoft's net profit margin is 30.4%! Since I'm using Windows software on my computer, does that make me the victim of "price-gouging" by Microsoft? Do you hear Nancy Pelosi, Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama denouncing Bill Gates for "profiteering" at the expense of hard-working middle-class computer users? Are Bill Gates' salary and his company's profits denounced as "obscene"?

The BBC reporter's fixation on "the profits of the oil companies" -- which he juxtaposes against "the wider economy" -- exposes him as an economic ignoramus.
Posted by Robert Stacy McCain

gasoline prices are much worse since the democrats took over the house and senate.

"Microsoft's net profit margin is 30.4%! Since I'm using Windows software on my computer, does that make me the victim of "price-gouging" by Microsoft?"

Microsoft's profit margin has nothing to do with it but yes, you are getting a fucking by Microsoft and judging by your post you aren't smart enough to realize it.
