TARPON SPRINGS, Fla. - Florida authorities confirmed that Deborah Jeane Palfrey, convicted of running a high-end prostitution ring in Washington, is dead in a suspected suicide, NBC News reported.

The body of the 52-year-old woman was found in a shed near her mother's mobile home Thursday morning in Tarpon Springs, about 20 miles northwest of Tampa. Police said in a statement that she left a suicide note, but they did not disclose its contents or how she killed herself.

Since I live near DC and have followed this case closely in the papers here and on TV I will suggest that she took her own life rather than go back to prison. Did you know she had been behind bars before for the same but the jury was not told about that. But she was found guilty again and the judge granted her bail. He said something along the lines Miss Palfrey knows there are penalties for trying to run away. I guess she really didn't want to go back to prison.

The Senator shrugged off the blow while the GOP took a deep sigh of relief (thank god this one isn't gay!) and the madam didn't earn herself an inch of leyway. If she had other high profile names in her little black book, I imagine she'd have leveraged them by now.

In Spitzer's case? He wasn't paying $2k/hour for sex, he was paying it for confidentiality. A married millionaire governor can afford to front a little extra for discretion.

Also, I don't know what bar scenes you've been hitting up, Willie, but most attractive girls aren't quite that easy. The amount of money you'll spend on clothes and clubs and drinks can conceivably set you back as far as you'd pay just buying a night outright. And guys like Spitzer aren't exactly male models.

You know prostitution has always flourished in state capitols and in the nation's capitol. Deborah Jeane Palfrey sent out a newsletter to her "girls" saying "Congress is back in session. That is always good for business". She also complained Monday Night Football was ruining business on that night.

Both women committed suicide by hanging themselves. I wonder what the statistics are of women killing themselves in this manner. I would think that a woman would be more than likely to take pills or use the gas stove. I think women, strangely, are concerned about what they will look like in death.

That is a universal theory Lala. In the vast majority of female suicides, they 'appear' to go to great links to a) preserve their looks and b) Not to "inconvience" others too much, thus doing the deed in a tub or outside. Poison/overdose are the prefered methods with asphyxiation next. Women who shoot or slash themselves seldom shoot themselves in the head or slash their throats.
