My God. It's buried off the lede in this story. But just imagine the talk that went on between the Republican recruiting types. "He'd be great!" "Yes, I know him. And he's Hispanic, we couldn't do any better as regards a Senatorial candidate for New Jersey."
And their first choice, now gone for, hopefully, a better candidate, was this guy:
The party’s recruiting woes once looked like it would hit New Jersey as well. Before Crowley’s announcement, the top GOP candidate, former Goya Foods executive Andrew Unanue, faced a blizzard of bad publicity that looked like it could sink his campaign.
He announced his candidacy from the ski mecca of Vail, Colo., and hasn’t even returned to the Garden State since his decision to run. And subsequent news reports showed he doesn’t live in New Jersey, and was ousted from his corporate position at Goya Foods because he allegedly arrived drunk on the job.
Which Republican Einstein vetted Unanue? Was he, or she fired? And was this Republicans simply emphasizing race over everything else in hopes of competing for a seat? Pathetic. I'd say I hope they do better with Crowley, who does look impressive. But seeing things like this doesn't exactly breed faith in the Party's apparatus. Geez.
But with Crowley now in the race, New Jersey Republicans again can feel hopeful that – despite the past recruiting embarrassments – they may have a chance at making this a competitive race after all.

I've always thought pretty dam dumb.
Not the leaders though, the followers.

If it's anything like Illinois, there may be several officials within the state GOP and "affiliates" making a mint off of keeping our state blue. It isn't stupidity just good ole' Illinois corruption. The elephants here are restless and our state party convention in early June should be a pretty lively affair. Or, we'll get more of the same old song and dance which will help return people like Durbin to the Senate. ONE LESS DICK IN WASHINGTON is a good motto. Hopefully, the rest of the party is ready to fight.

New Jersey residents are angry. At Dems endless corruption scandals and at Corzine for raising every tax in existence. US Attorney Chris Cristie has already arrested 128 corrupt politicians, mostly Dems. The right candidate could possibly win. In 2004 Kerry had 1.9 Million and Bush 1.6 Million votes in NJ. McCain is a more moderate " Tom Kean" type Republican and he can win New Jersey.

They vetted him alright...they figured "hey, he's not smoking pole" what's a little drunkeness at work?
Posted by: TheSpartan | Saturday, April 05, 2008 at 09:17 AM
Good question, Dan. Here is another one. Why would an allegedly smart Dem continue to make up outrageous stories and lies?
Like mother:
"Over the last five weeks, Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton of New York has featured in her campaign stump speeches the story of a health care horror: an uninsured pregnant woman who lost her baby and died herself after being denied care by an Ohio hospital because she could not come up with a $100 fee."
BUT:
"Except, it turns out, it didn't happen--at least, apparently, not the way Clinton said it did. There was indeed a tragedy last August in Athens, Ohio, in which a woman, Trina Bachtel, gave birth to a stillborn baby and subsequently died herself. But the New York Times reports this morning that the hospital involved says Bachtel had coverage, and received treatment. [The link to the NYT no longer work. The NYT has removed the story from unregistered access. FB]
Like daughter (from Don Suber's blog):
"Question: How many lies did Chelsea tell in West Virginia yesterday?
Answer: I counted 5, of course there were only 5 direct quotes in the story, so there may have been more. 1. As a former governor, her father was better prepared than her mom is. 2. Her mom has not outlined how “she’ll” pay for anything other than vague references to raising taxes on the rich. 3. Fed spending more than doubled to pay for No Child Left Behind mandates. 4. It is not “way past time” for a woman in the White House as only now is a pool of female senators and governors entering the scene. 5. And not a single Democratic candidate holds a candle to George Walker Bush. He had actual executive experience, unlike her mom and that other guy."

Fred,
You are a kook. That was some damaging lie, if one at all, by Senator Clinton.
Why do get so worked up over something as meaningless as Clinton's remarks and ignore King George lies that destroy freedom.
Bush, April 2004:
Transcript:
Secondly, there are such things as roving wiretaps. Now, by the way, any time you hear the United States government talking about wiretap, it requires — a wiretap requires a court order. Nothing has changed, by the way. When we’re talking about chasing down terrorists, we’re talking about getting a court order before we do so. It’s important for our fellow citizens to understand, when you think Patriot Act, constitutional guarantees are in place when it comes to doing what is necessary to protect our homeland, because we value the Constitution.

The NYT story on the lies Dem candidates tell is once again linkable. Here is another quote: "A Clinton spokesman, Mo Elleithee, said candidates would frequently retell stories relayed to them, vetting them when possible. “In this case, we did try but were not able to fully vet it,” Mr. Elleithee said. “If the hospital claims it did not happen that way, we respect that.”
See, Harpo, you utter child in the wilderness, thsy are using the "they all do it" defense, which is a first cousin of your favorite villain the "two wrongs don't make a right" denial.

King George? Didn't we get rid of him in the 1780s or so? No, I'm not talking about King George. I'm talking about elections not hereditary monarchies. This present election, it seems, will pit McCain against either a liar or a hate-America, racist slick orator from Harvard Law. Focus on the present, for heaven's sake, dopey. I must admit though that these latter two never talk much about their real opponent, McCain. They seem to like to live in the past, like you Harpo.
I like you, Harpo. You don't make any assertions that you haven't vetted where possible. It is just unfortunate I suppose that it is not possible to vet most of your assertions. What the hell; go with them anyway.

Curious, jharp, what exactly do you wish for people to "follow"? I'm always wanting to hear this line of thinking, since the left's history has been so discredited and that the leaders of the left still have any credibility left is beyond common sense.
Then again, you've indoctrinated people at most school levels that you're churning out little drones that will be perfect for your little utopian society where people can't think for themselves.

How many more laws/mandates/regulations is enough for your side jharp?
I don't think of it that way at all. There's some I'd like to get rid of and some I'd like to see enacted.
Good example of one I'd enact is no taxpayer dollars for sports stadiums.

Yep, and enforcing those laws requires the removal of all illegal aliens. That's what the law says. Of course, the "I'm for whatever is the best solution" says you don't want the law enforced.
Now, here's the deal. You are either for us being a nation of laws, or you're not, you can't have it both ways.

Settle down templar. I do want the law enforced. Just who is it that hasn't been. I'm sure it's no one with a R behind their name.
"Now, here's the deal. You are either for us being a nation of laws, or you're not, you can't have it both ways."

OK, just so long as you are consistent. Not that Democrats or Republicans have been supporting immigration laws. San Francisco has been cheating the Feds out of millions of dollars claiming it has used the money to support immigration laws, while in fact it is a sanctuary city that has refused to support immigration laws. What a country we live in. It looks like Democrats break the law all the time, too.

Got up this morning, drank lots of coffee, ate breakfast, and hit the yard. Spread weed and feed on the front lawn, watered it in, and mowed the sucker after it dried. Came in, ate a late lunch, checked the computer and I've been watching the basketball games. Not great fun working in the yard, but I love the results.

Yeah, I'd love to see Congress held to a higher standard, but that only happens when voters keep them there. When you have guys like Williams and Vitter getting re-elected even after they've violated some rather basic tenants of good government, you have to question what the hell their electorate are even thinking?

NEWSFLASH
The AsP learned today that the United States has fallen from second to sixth place in the Index of Top Ten Countries Wearing Appropriate Police, Security, and National Security Uniforms (ITTCWAPSNS). This is the lowest rating received by the U.S. in seven months, two weeks, two days, six hours, twelve minutes, and nine seconds.
Sources have told AsP there may be no bottom to this uniform slippage. Sen. Harry Reid, in a joint press conference with House leader Nancy Pelosi, this afternoon blamed the Bush administration for lack of attention to "this area of important pride and morale for our country".
The Uniforms Council of Council Bluffs, Iowa, who are the keepers of the ITTCWAPSNS Index, released it yesterday. AsP has obtained a copy:
1) Chad
2) Jamaica
3) North Korea
4) Iceland
5) United Kingdom
6) United States
7) Myanmar
8) Canada
9) Congo

Washington:
Senators Tom Harkin and Dick Durban held a press briefing yesterday afternoon to explain their desire to draft legislation to create federal standards and a new government agency to ensure local police and security guards are appropriately uniformed.
The new agency would have a headquarters in Council Bluffs, Iowa, and a field office in Detroit, Michigan, and would be named The Federal Uniform Uniforms And Other Uniform Stuff Agency or The Agency of Uniform Uniforms and Uniform Standards and Things Like That. The agency would have broad power to inspect civilian uniforms and their wearers.

Washington:
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi had an especially busy day yesterday beginning with a dawn press conference criticizing the Bush administration for lack of action in the uniform crisis and ending in a late night special session of Congress. The session was called to craft a bill to provide $508,727,000 to local communities from Greenwich to Berkeley to help them meet uniform uniform standards.
Congresswoman Pelosi said: "Since the United States has become one of the poorest nations in this tortured world since the current administration has taken office, it is necessary for your government to assist local police and security guard organizations to provide high-quality uniforms that uniformly help our poor communities afford good uniforms and training and education on how to wear them."

To take second things first: of course the link doesn't work, you moron. Do you suppose I would go to the effort of creating an entire website for the sake of a little satire at the end of a long thread. How stupid are you?
As to your first point: I endorse these sentiments from Chapter 5 of the "First Book of The Great Gargantua" by Master Alcofribas (actually Francois Rabelais):
"Pass it over...Fill it up...Give it to me without water, like that, my friend...Draw me some claret, a brimming glass...I only drink at my own times, like the Pope's mule..."

"I think it's now safe to pry that gun out of Charleton Heston's cold dead hands."
What a wonderful person you are, Boob! Your character is impeccably flawed. But it is good for the World to see how liberals really are, so keep up the great work.
I had the pleasure of meeting Charleton Heston twice in my life, once at the yearly NRA Convention, and once at a dedication of a mural, at which time I had my photo made with him. What an honor that was. And what a show he put on, as he ordered all video cameras turned off, and proceeded to give a speech in that thunderous voice of Moses in the Ten Commandments. The hair stood up on the back of my neck, I'll tell you that.
As an actor, I still consider Ben Hur to be his best work, but Will Penny is one of my favorites as well. He is one of the few actors in Hollywierd I will miss. There is a celebration in Heaven, and sadness on this Earth, but he and I will meet again. I look forward to it. Godspeed, Charleton Heston, a truly great American.

Not that you *really* care to hear the answer, Bob... but here goes anyway:
Mr. Heston won't have need of any hairpieces (nor will anyone else for that matter) as we will have restored, youthful and immortal bodies.
And yes, we will be able to recognize one another in Heaven, as we are made all brothers in Christ through His Resurrection.
There won't be any guns in Heaven, but we will be far to thrilled enjoying the unreserved joy at being with the Lord Jesus Who called us and redeemed us. Guns are only necessary on this earth, where there are bad people who want to take away our rights and our liberty, and where sometimes we must hunt for our food.
In Heaven, all what very little physical needs we might have, will be supplied richly. No bad people, and no need to hunt = no need for guns.
I'm fairly certain we will have other things to occupy ourselves with.
Grilling? I don't reckon we will be grilling much, but there will be foods untasted by human tongue which surpass our understanding.

I wonder if Rush would have known about the Magic Negro if he hadn't read it in the LA Times
quote
The Magic Negro is a figure of postmodern folk culture, coined by snarky 20th century sociologists, to explain a cultural figure who emerged in the wake of Brown vs. Board of Education. "He has no past, he simply appears one day to help the white protagonist," reads the description on Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magical_Negro .
He's there to assuage white "guilt" (i.e., the minimal discomfort they feel) over the role of slavery and racial segregation in American history, while replacing stereotypes of a dangerous, highly sexualized black man with a benign figure for whom interracial sexual congress holds no interest.
