Obama Ad In Texas: Are We Rounding Up Arab-American Families?

Update: Seems official - Out of many, One.

I haven't had time to look into this stuff from John Batchelor implying even more links between Obama and some dubious figures in, or with links to the Middle East. But while formulating a post on how few people of color Obama seems to use in his ads, I came across this one from Texas below. Is this an official Obama ad?

Starting at 12 seconds in ... just how many Arab-American families are being rounded up in America without benefit of an attorney? Apparently enough for Obama to be concerned over his own Civil Liberties, according to him. Has he ever given examples of these families? You'd think they would be in the news.

And the really funny thing is, my wife and I actually had a discussion on this a few weeks ago (in reference to the Japanese-Americans interned during WW2).

We both agreed that it was within reason that the nation do so, and we both agreed that it was largely unfair to those so interned. However, like most adults, we realize that Life isn't always fair. There was a credible threat that there may have been an active fifth-column among west coast Japanese Americans, and the government - for right or for wrong - took action to reduce that threat.

As for my stance on Arab-Americans - if you read what I had said, I said that the thought had crossed my mind. I never elaborated whether or not I had then (or now) supported the detention of Arab- or Persian- or any other Islamic- Americans.

Just a thought that crossed my mind in the time shortly following the 9-11 attack. And, I think you'd either be mistaken, or a liar if you though that a good number of Americans hadn't had that same thought cross their minds either.

TK SOme cat in another thread says that what science has taught us about oil being a fossil fuel is incorrect. He says that dried up oil wells are refilling themselves. You heard anything like this in da biz?

Willie, what I always wonder about is what happens to the empty space when the oil is taken out. Does it fill up with water? Since a lot of oil is under sand would that make the deserts eventually fertile, or will the sand cave into the empty space? And what are volcanoes burning? You can tell I'm not a geologist.

Lala: I have no idea what happens to the holes left by oil wells. I do remember from living in OK that they do someting with salt water. I doubt they fill the hole with it though. Good question! I did some googling on the "abiotic oil genesis" theory (i.e. oil not from dead dinosaurs).

The gist of it is that there are carbon deposits WAAAAYYYY down deep in the earth (to the tune of 15km-45km underground) which are formed and super heated in the Earth's mantle and eventually work their way up (thus *eventually* replenishing the oil pockets at 1.5km-3.0km depth.

Supposedly, the Russkies will win the next phase of the Cold War because they are camping on top of these 40km-deep Siberian gas and oil pockets that considerably dwarf the Saudi fields. They've supposedly got that on tap *now*, and are gleefully watching us (and the rest of the European west) and the Chinese scrap it out over the remaining drops of oil in the desert, after which...

... they will have the only keys to the oil... and they will Rule De Woooooorrrllddddd.....!

Of course, Big Oil wouldn't let the Russkies have all the fun, so while they go about stopping up production to create an artificial shortage and force the middle class into destitution, they'll be digging deeper holes somewhere, I'm sure.

Way to kill two birds with one lump of coal: the liberals get to kill off all those useless eaters, and the oil corporations get to drive up oil profits. It's totally win-win: there will be less wealth in the world of the future, but far less people to have to share it with as well!

Of course, the truth is generally more reassuring than the fiction, in that the Russians really have only bored down about 12km, only to go no further because the drill bits keep failing from the heat.
