Were Obama truly courageous, as well as audacious, he would acknowledge Jeremiah Wright as a significant and accepted representative religious voice within large portions of mostly urban black America. By denying, or re-inventing what Wright represents, he is selling out portions of his black constituency. And he's also abdicating any chance of being the very thing he's professed to want to be - a bridge of sorts.
It's a pity, really. Instead of moral courage, it looks as though we'll continue to see the opposite from Barack Obama when he gives a speech on race and religion tomorrow. Given previous statements and the tease, he will continue to deny Jeremiah Wright's often angry Afro-centrist image and his standing within the black religious community. And all it requires for him to do it is moral cowardice. What a shame. I actually had some hope he was better than that. It looks like I was wrong.
He was pressed there, as he has been at recent appearances, on statements by his former pastor, Jeremiah Wright.
"I am going to be talking about not just Reverend Wright, but the larger issue of race in this campaign," he said.
He added that he would "talk about how some of these issues are perceived from within the black church issue for example," he said.
He also briefly defended Wright from the image that has come through in a handful of repeatedly televised clips from recent Wright sermons.
"The caricature that’s being painted of him is not accurate," he said.

Who painted that caricature? Not me.

Looks like another victory for the patriots! Dick Cheney has secured Iraq, McCain appears to still be breathing and Hussein Obama hates white people and America. Rejoice heroes!!!

Looks like another rant from a Leftist idiot. Actually, it's the same rant over and over again. I do believe Boob has gotten himself stuck in the spin cycle. Don't worry, Boob, a worthy hero will show up and turn off the washer sooner or later. Perhaps it will be your drug-addled alter ego chris. Now there's an anti-flag waving hero for you to rejoice over.

Imagine this, another Obama post.
Stock market on the verge of collapse, fifth largest investment banker poof - gone, billions in retirement savings poof- gone, first ever emergency interest rate reduction on a Sunday, entire banking industry teetering.
And we are concerned about Obama's pastor. It is no wonder we are so screwed.

Doom! Disaster! Disgrace! It's all over except for the hang-wringing.
This must be why Obama picked up a couple extra Superdelegates this week, while Clinton has failed to gain a single new super since February.
It's his Macaca moment! Game over, man! Game over!

If Obama publicly embraced the positions Wright is reported to have preached, the result would be a political flameout of monumental proportions.
It's been amusing to watch all this, because there's no good answer to the situation Obama is in. Even if he came out and publicly and forthrightly condemned Wright's hate speech, people would ask why he only did so once it became a political liability to him.
But we'll find out tomorrow what solution he thinks he's found. Apparently the Obama campaign has announced that he's going to make a major speech "on race, politics, and how we bring our country together at this moment in our history." Should be extremely amusing.

Obama Derangement Syndrome??? (ODS)

Mea culpa is the only way to go. He can say he was a racist like Rev. Wright when he was young and stupid. But now he’s “changed” and wants to bring hope and unity to this country.
Of course, there’s probably a 1% chance of this working. But it's better than the 0% lie through your teeth strategy he has now.

Hey Dan, who would have thought a former President would find the time to post here. You deserve the recognition, though I must say I'm surprised Jimmy can find the time, given his arduous Jew bashing schedule, to post here.
In any event, he makes no more sense than he did when he was POTUS.
Alas Jimmy is wrong about this -in addition to everything else. People patronize particular churches because they like the message being preached -and sometimes are inspired by it. B.O. is no different than the rest of us, though he no doubt wears his mask better than most.

Funny how the economy went south shortly after the Democrat take-over of Congress and it's odd that the economy falls a little further with every Barry Obama victory. Mutually exclusive? Nothing in this world is.
As far as Barry and racism is concerned, a simple read of his blog entries or his two books will show you the black nationalist that is Barry Obama. I posted many times regarding this very thing before the Racist Wright stuff broke. Read Dreams of my Father, please. http://liberalsmash.blogspot.com/2008/03/okay-lets-pretend-were-shocked.html

is any of your readership catholic? are any of them troubled by senator mccain's pursuit and acceptance of the endorsement of reverend hagee who considers the catholic church to be the "great whore of babylon" and all catholics eternally damned? does anyone have a record of everything huckabee said from the pulpit during his years of ministry, did anyone care when he was a candidate?
these questions need to be answered fully before you fall into a bottomless pit of hypocrisy.

I'm a Roman Catholic and I take Mark Twain's position on Heaven. I'm not concerned about what ministers say about Catholicism, it doesn't bother me at all.

A characteristic of a fair minded, serious person is an unwillingness to make dishonest comparisons. Comparing McCain and Hagee to Obama and Wright is like comparing someone who knows a thief, hooker etc (insert your vice personam) and someone who visits with that person once a week and looks to that person for inspiration.
Navarro, you are disingenuously and unintelligently grasping at straws.

The Implosion of Obama will be as spectacular as his rise.
Posted by: Roy Mustang | Monday, March 17, 2008 at 11:46 PM
True, it is unfair to compare Wright to Hagaee. After all, Obama's rejected Wright's comments and he's out of the campaign. McCain's - apparently falling of the straight-talk express - can't seem to find it in him to do the same. Then there's the filth Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson spewed but republicans couldn't find it in them to reject that hate either. Hey, votes count more than principles when it's your last chance to be Prez.
As for the Republican Recession, it could make it an even uglier November for republicans.
And the republican adminstration just tossed $30 billion in to help bailout those rich guys at Bear Stearns. Too bad it wasn't thrown at some poor folk, then all the conservatives on this board would be wringing their hands over socialism. So much for all that "let the market work" BS.
Nah, Carter was a minor leaguer compared to Bush. Pretty much the whole country just wants him to go away.
Ya like what Bush is doing? Argue with this guy about it:
"It's no mystery," said Rep. Thomas M. Davis III (R-Va.). "You have a very unhappy electorate, which is no surprise, with oil at $108 a barrel, stocks down a few thousand points, a war in Iraq with no end in sight and a president who is still very, very unpopular. He's just killed the Republican brand."

There isn't anything to argue about there worst. Difference is some of us can disagree with a president or a party without sounding like whiny children. Some of us know that some things are cyclic and others market driven...out of the control of a president, even a congress. Those of us who aren't always looking to government for solutions that is. Things are sh*tty, yes and not looking to correct soon. You weren't around in the Carter years and anyone who says this economy is anywhere near as crappy is a f88ing liar at minimum and a fool at best. This too will correct itself as soon as the rich quit panicking and positioning. They will of course leave us not near as well off but theirs is coming.

Right. Spoken like a typically dishonest liberal. Obama purports to reject Wright - with the whole country watching and respect for Wright at 8%. You're swift Jimmy.
It's twenty years too late and too patently dishonest. There aren't enough self-loathing dummies for this guy to be elected.
Posted by: Terry Gain | Tuesday, March 18, 2008 at 01:00 AM
Yeah, I was around in the Carter years. Gas lines, 20% inflation, etc. etc.
Incompetence isn't cyclical but it's certainly rampant under Bush. He took a surplus built after years of negotiations between Republicans and Democrats and squandered it. He sold the country on running government like a business, he just didn't mention he was going to bankrupt the business. He took the country to war - always an expensive venture - and cut taxes at the same time. Something no president's ever done.
I'm not looking to government to save me but I do expect it to perform competently. It did under Clinton. But under Bush, it's been one disaster after another. The man could screw up a wet dream.
Yeah, yeah, BSD. Me and the rest of the country.

Actually, I'm very honest. And I have conservative friends to back me up on it.
Lets see: John McCain"
1. Conservatives don't like him. I believe some have referred to him as "Juan McCain". Hmmm, smells like racism to me.
2. McCain essentially is running as Bush III. THAT's really going to work out.
3. McCain says he doesn't really understand economics. Probably not a good thing to say right now
4. McCain is 70+ year old. Yeah, I know, Not fair, but it's a fact.
5. McCain is basically running a status quo campaign when the country is looking for major change.
The Democrats aren't going to run against McCain, they're going to run against Busy, the most unpopular president in the history of the country.
You might want to work on that anger thing - it'll kill yah.

Foolish, was Helicopter Ben for offering to bail out i-banks with taxpayer dollars.
Corporate socialism, as it were, and quite an unforgiveable action on the part of the Fed.
"--- Juan McCain ---"
Being Latino is not a matter of race. Therefore, the slur is not racist, but more accurately, nativist in re: McCain's live of amnesty.

Mr/Ms Ever writes: "Actually, I'm very honest. And I have conservative friends to back me up on it."
Like his fellow trolls, Ever has made a couple of mistakes in a small space. First, Ever is not very honest. Ever is a liar. Second, Ever has no conservative friends. Ever's opinions, like LlamaMoe's and several others who opine here, are very similar to Rev Wright's. That is why they can't understand how poisonous the Rev's opinions are to the Obama campaign. They see this outrageous scandal as no big deal. They learned to hate America in the universities America has provided for them.
Posted by: Fred Beloit | Tuesday, March 18, 2008 at 08:53 AM
Well said, Fred. No respectable, true conservative would have anything to do with that Son of a Bitch. And you're spot on with your observation that Wright's behavior is no big deal to these people. They hate their own race. They've listened to their own propaganda for so long that they believe it, so such statements as one of the Kos dingbats made, "Let an old black man have his anger, and leave him alone" resonates with them. Frankly, I can't stand the lot of the leftist buggers.

"and the "beeners" (LOL is a racist!!!!)"
Uh, no excuse me sir, sir, puhlease excuse me.
It is not actually a racist term, since all latin americans dine on bean dishes (white, black, mestizo) and therefore is technically not racist. It is technically culturalist sir, which we have learned from the War Against Islam is also an acceptable bigotry. Thank you and have a good day.
Posted by: LOL | Tuesday, March 18, 2008 at 12:05 PM
Calling a duck a chicken just because it has feathers and you can eat them both does not make a duck a chicken.
"Culturalist" could well apply, although we are not really in a "war" against Latin Americans. But we would deeply appreciate it if those Latinos moving up here into these United States would kindly assimilate and learn our language, not demand excessive accommodations, obey our laws, and pay the lawful income tax. Aside from that, I've really no issue with them.
The War on Islam (rightly called, FWIW) is a different matter. Herein is also the quandary of defining the war Constitutionally: if we are indeed fighting a defensive war, then one could make a (weak) case that war has already been declared by th enemey on us; all that remains is making a formal counter-declaration.
Posted by: seekeronos | Tuesday, March 18, 2008 at 03:14 PM
The irreplaceable LOL strikes again: "It is technically culturalist sir, which we have learned from the War Against Islam is also an acceptable bigotry."
By the "War Against Islam" one presumes he means the WAR AGAINST TERRORIST ISLAM.
