Children Say The Darnedest Things

It would seem that making any comparisons between a particular cartoon character and a politician needs to be confined to George Bush. Oh, I get it, alright - and appreciate the politically incorrect nature of it.

I certainly don't think adults should be going there, I'm not advocating that. But what do you tell a 12 year old child making this type of, presumably, innocent observation? How do you address it without violating the cardinal liberal rule of not telling a child they are "wrong?" I thought that undermined their self-esteem?

Don't take this post the wrong way. I'm not advocating a world in which, as adults, we should be comparing a black person to a monkey, free of any inhibitions brought on by addressing racism in the culture, especially given our past. But it is interesting seeing what wins whenever liberal truisms collide. I suspect being politically correct would trump individual self-esteem every time when it comes to liberal thinking. The self-esteem thing in children isn't really about individual self-esteem for liberals. It's more about leveling everyone so that no one stands out from a collective mentality that can't tolerate stand-outs, heroes, or all-stars.

ABC News' Tahman Bradley Reports: Conservative talk radio host Rush Limbaugh issued an on-air apology to Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., today after a caller said her daughter thought the Democratic presidential frontrunner looked like the cartoon character Curious George, a monkey.

"--- Freezing up in Buffalo ---"

Not quite that bad. Them Buffaloans are a tad worse of than I, with that Lake Effect weather. The snow we get an hour upriver from NYC ain't a patch on the icy hell they have to deal with each winter. But they have enough tabasco sauce and chicken wings to keep things warm and toasty.

That said, I and the wifey and the wee one shall be taking a week-long cruise in the Bahamas in a few weeks. Good times ahead, indeed.

"Every black "conservative" has been derided by people on the left with the most vile, hateful and racist things that could be said of anyone."

Uh-huh. Cue Rush Limbaugh singing "Barack The Magic Negro".

"[Democrats] all thought"

Nah, we've sparred enough that you should no better than to think I would say "all" about anybody. However, syn is not entirely incorrect, except for the blanket statement thing. Every black "conservative" has been derided by people on the left with the most vile, hateful and racist things that could be said of anyone. To deny this is to either be a fool or a liar, so I know you wont deny it. I somehow dobt that you think it is ok as long as it is about politics. I dont like the cavalier attitude that it's ok on any level. I've seen what it does to people who certainly do not deserve it and frankly instead of arguing about who shot who in '42 we are better off doing all we can to rid ourselves of he stain of hate. Unfortunately, I see most esistance to this idea from folks like yourself, not folks like syn.

"--No, I'm sending you links like you wanted.--"

Well, I was aiming my comment at syn, but if you want to dive in too... Syn implied that "they all thought demeaning a black man was funny stuff" and the only Democrat I found who thought demeaning a black man was funny stuff was another black man who just happens to have been dead for the last six months. So the notion that "[Democrats] all thought" this was perfectly acceptable behavior is somewhat laughable. You've literally got to dig someone out of the ground to prove your point.

"Wait, are you comparing this guy"

No, I'm sending you links like you wanted. You're really off your meds today huh?

Wait, are you comparing this guy:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steve_Gilliard
to Rush Limbaugh?

You could at least pick an example of a Democrat who is still alive when you run off with the "Democrats are racist too!" meme.

And here's another LLama. I guess you need loads of proof that it's ok to make racial jokes as long as the object is a repugnican.

"--Yet when the Democrat Left 'black-faced' Michael Steele they all thought demeaning a black man was funny stuff.--"

Link much?

Curious George is an animal character in a children's book.

Yet when the Democrat Left 'black-faced' Michael Steele they all thought demeaning a black man was funny stuff.

"such as only can be found in Paradise..."

Seeker old pal, your Caribbean soul is trapped up there. Freezing up in Buffalo, stuck in your car while I'm lying here neath the sun and the stars. Been a tad warm today, seventies, but the wind has kept the boat near shore. I think our friend DaBoob would not be near so grumpy with sand in his shoes.

"--- My fellow Parrotheads will please forgive me for mentioning one of Jimmy's best albums and Rush Limbo in teh same sentence. ---"

Only if you fess up a medium-rare cheeseburger or two (medium rare with Muenster would be nice) with lettuce and tomatoes, Heinz 57 and french fried potatoes... such as only can be found in Paradise...

"Sounds like Cindy McCain!!"
If you were married to an old cat viagra couldnt even help, you'd need a little something to get you over too....

Now...now...the MagicMulatto is a unifier, and will take no offense at monkey talk. He wishes, nay, demands, that we all...well...just get along. I have my doubts as to whether chris, LOL, WPE and the majority of the other nutroots could ever get along with anyone other than nutroots. Nobody else could stand their bullshit.

Why isn't this brat stealing mom's prescribed medicine and selling it to kids that still read Curious George like chrissy's kids are?

Stealing prescribed medicine?? Sounds like Cindy McCain!!

"It's getting a bit ridiculous."

Vin, It's gone waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay beyond a bit ridiculous.

This Curious George/Barack Obama look-alike observation by a 12 year old shows just how steeped in political correctness we as a society are. Yes, I am well aware of the boorish and demeaning nature of the cartoons of past which de-humanized and demeaned, but we are well beyond that ugly phase of history now, generally speaking. We can lampoon an individual while simultaneously recognizing that each individual has an inherent human dignity. I ask, what on earth is the matter with caricaturing a notable personality or saying that person X resembles a (insert any animal here), especially politicians, if done in a humorous way? For example, I think that President Hugo Chavez physically resembles a monkey (not to mention acts like a rabid one). Am I not allowed to say that beyond my four walls, let alone on the public airwaves? How much ground are we going to cede to PC? It's getting a bit ridiculous.

""before the salt""

The REAL Wahoo would be very upset!! My fellow Parrotheads will please forgive me for mentioning one of Jimmy's best albums and Rush Limbo in teh same sentence.

"Mr Llama"

Snarky doodle DaLamoLama has areed to allow me the fantasy that she is indeed no more than 22 and female, very likely a student in a state university. Please do not intrude on our other world life wih thoughts that she may be a he who is old enough to have listened to Limbo "before the salt" as it were.

"And if you don't think the entire act was staged - from caller, to scripted Limbaugh diatribe, to "scandal", to loud and obnoxious public apology, to post-apology bemoaning of political correctness - you haven't actually been listening to Limbaugh for the past 20 years."

Why heavens to Betsy and my stars and gardens. Mr Llama has been a Rush listener for twenty years. Oh good night! Well I never. Where do you live, Mr Llama? You may be eligible for our local Rush fan club, whereof I am the Adjutant General (third in command). If you live in or near our little town of Crimson Neck, Florida, I would certainly be glad to accept your application.

Doesn't this just beat all!

.... having trouble finding examples of liberal fury at fellow leftists who made 'porch monkey' commentary about condi & clarence thomas .... maybe they were all just whacked out on their doublestandards heroin that quarter.

because, god knows it's impossible for a liberal to be racist. ask anyone.

"Haven't the left been comparing Bush to a chimp for the last eight years?"

peter: yes they have but see it's the left. You never saw chrissy or LameLLama or the rest of these really offended people say a freekin' thing when Condi Rice was being called Aunt Jemima and worse. Because they have no real moral compass, only what they are told to be "upset" about. You aint seen nothing of leftist racism yet peter, Just let Obama get elected and see what the dems do to him.

Haven't the left been comparing Bush to a chimp for the last eight years?

"Must be homeschooled..."

Could be public schools. After 100 odd years of hearing how we evolved from apes, how's it such a stretch to see a resemblance? Can one be an intra-species bigot?

"Leave it to a Limbaugh listener who has a 12 year old child who watches cartoons geared to the under-5 set."

Yeah it's impossible to for a moder, well educated kid to remember back 6-7 years. Why isn't this brat stealing mom's prescribed medicine and selling it to kids that still read Curious George like chrissy's kids are?

"Mr "Magic Negro"
"That Rush felt the need to "apologize" for yet another of his racist jabs at Barack."

LOLOLOLOLOL Now I apparently dont listen to Limbo nears as much as LameLLama, God they'd have to pay me, but I'd like to see a link to show transcripts wher eLimbo ACTUALLY made a racist comment about Obamarama. C'mon, surely you can find something other than this BS you were led to believe you heard. It's even ok to post the LA Times article where "Magic Negro" actually first appeared.

George Allen approved this message.

Islamo - when do we get to part where you tell us who killed Kennedy? LOL Talk about a conspiracy theory.

"--But what do you tell a 12 year old child making this type of, presumably, innocent observation? How do you address it without violating the cardinal liberal rule of not telling a child they are "wrong?" I thought that undermined their self-esteem?--"

Tell them what you always tell them, Dan. That the Clintons wanted to see you aborted in the womb and Obama is secretly planning to team up with the Miami 7 and blow up the Sears Tower.

That Rush felt the need to "apologize" for yet another of his racist jabs at Barack proves how eager everyone is to get a little of the Obama spotlight, but it doesn't say much about the state of political correctness in this country. At best, we can note that Mr "Magic Negro" and his band of uneducated goons are still just as third-world stupid as we originally presumed. And if you don't think the entire act was staged - from caller, to scripted Limbaugh diatribe, to "scandal", to loud and obnoxious public apology, to post-apology bemoaning of political correctness - you haven't actually been listening to Limbaugh for the past 20 years.

If Rush doesn't know who Curious George is anymore, the hillbilly heroin has taken a far worse toll on his faculties than I thought.

On the plus side, he's just like his hero, Ronnie Rayguns.

Next we'll have the NAACP demanding that both the 12 year old and Rush be flogged for insulting Islam.

Erm, I meant, for implying that the Great Obamassiah looks like a cartoon monkey, and therefore, thinks that black presidential aspirants are racially inferior.

Good grief, is there any common sense left in the land?

Leave it to a Limbaugh listener who has a 12 year old child who watches cartoons geared to the under-5 set. Must be homeschooled...
