I appreciate this.

From the guys who insist on calling him Barack HUSSIEN Obama, and who can't help but interject "Hitler was a popular speaker too!", we have a question regarding the proprietary of comparing current pols to famous historical figures.

If we aren't allowed to compare Barack to the King, can we please, please, please stop trying to compare Bush to Abraham Lincoln? Pretty please?

"can we please, please, please stop trying to compare Bush to Abraham Lincoln? Pretty please?"

LOLOLOLOLOL Savoir faire do please send whoever has hijacked your keyboard away!!! Let's see, Lincoln was a racist who got into two wars, one of genocide, the other against his own people and thousands of innocents died along with twice as many soldiers in 1 hour than have died in five years of Iraq. He turned his back not only to the torture and murder of prisoners, but the prisoners were his own countrymen. Here's one you'll love, suspension of Habeus Corpus among other little dittys like silencing disent. With me so far dear? Because I'm tired of examples. SInce YOU accuse Bush of the same things, I don't understand why the comparison of the two would upset you.

Moe, Bush compared to Lincoln? What makes this raving maniac think a lot of us compare Bush to Lincoln? This moron is becoming a total pain in the neck. Moe, when are you going to stop comparing Bill Clinton to General Custer and Alf Landon to George Washington. When are you going to stop kicking little toddlers in the pants? When will you, please, please, pllllllllleeeeeeezzzzzzz stop mugging nuns. When will you quit contrasting Social Security legislation with the Magna Carta and The Wasteland with the Treaty of Locarno? Huh? Huh? Huh?

Wait, Willie, are you suggesting that we should be happy about all the soldiers and civilians who died while Abraham Lincoln was President? I've heard the "racist" tag hung around Lincoln's neck more than once by both liberals and conservatives, but it seems like the conservatives who love to hang the 1800s notion of race on Lincoln and then lovingly embrace him. Presumably, we are to aspire to 1800s era race relations in the conservative world view.

You've painted Lincoln as some sort of monster, then compared your believed leader to him. It's almost comic. Do you secretly despise Bush as much as so many other do openly? Or do you prefer having an inhuman menace as President?

I don't know too many historians or scholars who regard Lincoln's suspension of Habeus Corpus with pride. Certainly, its not something highlighted in any history book I've ever read as one of his crowning achievements. Yet these are things you hold up as models for future Presidents. Torture, murder, lawlessness, civil war... These are things a President should aspire towards?

Why not go the extra mile and try to link MLK to the communists - as Hoover did? Or call him the affirmative action candidate - as he sought to be? Trash him for working with "known racists" like Kennedy, Johnson, and the '60s Democratic Party, maybe? You can turn any comparison on its ear, and sure enough MLK starts looking like the red-flag waving socialist race-baiter stereotype you regularly try to peg to Obama.

So I guess the only question left is what mainstream America believes. We'll sort this out at the ballot box and - as your Great President so loves to exclaim - let history be the judge.

Wingnuts Compare Bush to Lincoln

There you go. Links galore.

"You've painted Lincoln as some sort of monster,.." Oh no. Who would do such a thing to a President? Why Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi and you, Moe, with you incessant attacks on the current one.

Wow LLama, you really went off on a tangent there. But sometimes I guess the best way to answer a direct question is to confuse the issue. It's a good dodge. It was you dear that asked that "we" stop comparing L to B and I stated that "your" accusations of B were more like the truth of L, thus "your" comparisons were more accurate. No I would not compare them, different times, differnt belief systems, on and on.
Do I "secretly despise Bush"? Can you point to anything I've written that says otherwise? Honestly, no I don't despise the man, I dont know him and only fools despise people they've never met. Dont approve of A LOT of his policies and never have. I go back to Ike and I cannot point to any president I ever agreed w/ 100%, again, that's a fool's behavior.
Now, so we dont bore everyone recovering old ground. Be a good girl and look at a couple of the other threads to see what (I) have said about Dr King before you look like a complete dumbass.

"Wingnuts Compare Bush to Lincoln"

I dont need your links pookie. I am aware that some less than sterling "historians" have compared Bush to Lincoln. That was not the issue of my answer to you. Please stay sober tonight, you've embarassed your self all day.

Kennedy was assassinated, as was Lincoln. Is this a comparison of Kennedy with Lincoln? Or a simple statement of fact to demonstrate Presidents have bee assassinated?

There is something wrong with you and your heroes who call themselves, with good reason, crooks and liars. There is something very wrong in the head.

"-- I dont need your links pookie. I am aware that some less than sterling "historians" have compared Bush to Lincoln. That was not the issue of my answer to you. --"

"-- Moe, Bush compared to Lincoln? What makes this raving maniac think a lot of us compare Bush to Lincoln? This moron is becoming a total pain in the neck. --"

See, this is really cool. You've got one guy calling me "pookie" and questioning my sobriety for posting links I used to address the concerns of another guy who calls me a "raving maniac" and a "moron" for suggesting what the link proves.

When you have no arguments left, it's always a safe bet to throw baseless character attacks till something sticks. I'd say these were tactics that died back in 3rd Grade, but even 3rd Graders would roll their eyes at you.

"-- Wow LLama, you really went off on a tangent there. But sometimes I guess the best way to answer a direct question is to confuse the issue. --"

Who is confusing the issue? You ran off and skewed the events surrounding Lincoln's Presidency to paint him an amoral monster in some sort of delusional justification for Iraq. Dan bemoaned how anyone could compare Obama to MLK. I bemoaned how anyone could compare Bush to Lincoln. You stepped in and tried to rationalize Bush's contempt for human life and the rule of law by claiming that Lincoln was no different. I stepped in and laughed off the comparison, noting that those aspects of the Lincoln Presidency you "highlight" are some of the darkest moments of his administration and some of the heaviest criticisms leveled against him. You listed Lincoln's flaws, then claimed "Bush has those flaws too! So you can't criticize Bush, because Lincoln is universally respected." Might as well call yourself a genius for sexing up your cousin, cause Einstein married his.

Then I noted that - although the right likes to give MLK a great deal of lip service - they generally despise the man's policy and ideology. MLK stood for affirmative action, socialized education and housing and medicine, and a number of other policies conservatives regularly denounce as "socialist" and "anti-free-market". While they hold MLK up because he is respected, they trash Obama for daring to follow in the man's footsteps. Better yet, they denounce people for claiming, "Look how Obama is following in MLK's legacy!" After all, holding a parade and giving a speech for a man some four decades dead is one thing. But actually enacting the domestic policies he championed, that's entirely different.

Uh, don't turn around but, someone hasnt' been taking their meds. Feets don't fail me now!

"someone hasnt' been taking their meds"

I agree. Never have seen DaLameLLama in such a state and has been since this AM. My goodnits, she'll have to be sedated.

Is it possible that DaLameLLama is Ziffy offspring and not the bull shipper from down Texas way? We relly do seem to be reading two slightly different peeples......Savoir Faire and...."Sybil"

Per Moe; "...although the right likes to give MLK a great deal of lip service - they generally despise the man's policy and ideology."

Alas, a typical Leftist lie. The Right like MLK's work on behalf of equal opportunity for all races. But the socialistic element of MLK's beliefs? No. That is one reason we are called Rightists.

MLK dreamed that we would judge NOT by the color of other's skin but by their character. Obama is demanding we judge By the color of other's skin and raise taxes to fund government enforcement of those judges' view of "fairness".
