Via The Corner: People need to stop pretending the obvious didn't happen.
The Times was wrong to run the story they did.
We aren't reading the story the Times planned in December. We're reading filtered junk McCain hired Bennett to finesse, or clean up for him as best he could, probably with some dubious legal threats thrown in, to try and protect a guy I suspect everyone in DC knows the real story on.
Stop pretending McCain is the victim here. He had the best legal help money could buy and there's still plenty enough there to support running the story. The Times watered it down at McCain's insistence, in part because McCain and Keller are on friendly terms - few if any real conservatives would have been given such a break and still come up looking dirty in the end.
If the Fall is doomed to be the Gospel of Obama versus the church of St. John, who the hell are atheists and secularists going to support?

I absolutely agree with this post. There is there there. And I'm just waiting for the other shoe to drop. There will be other allegations, there will be other stories alleging infidelity, and who knows what else. This article is a siren call to all the silent "victims" of McCain and they will soon be heard from. There will be memos leaked disparaging McCain's war record. There will be people coming forward to say what kind of person he really is. So if you want, consider this article the Times ran today the first salvo in a series of "hit pieces."

The GOP is THE vehicle for conservatism in the US, which is why Romney, a far better candidate I expect to see in 2012, if not earlier, fell in line and endorsed McCain.
Talking about a third party makes you sound like one of those pathetic libertarians that don't understand the difference between a MOVEMENT and a PARTY. The former is useful for talking with people you agree with and sometimes siphons enough votes to clear the path for untrammeled socialists. (Think Romney losing enough of the conservative vote to Huckabee to benefit McCain) The latter WINS ELECTIONS and gets to SET THE AGENDA.
Maybe you are right that this "scandal" is the tip of the iceberg, but we don't know that yet. If so, the article itself is an exceedingly weak "tip of the spear". If anything, it may open more people's eyes to the games the MSM plays with their heads every election cycle.
Please read and consider the upside...
