Today, Romney for President Campaign Manager Beth Myers issued the following statement regarding the outcome of West Virginia’s Republican Party convention:
“Unfortunately, this is what Senator McCain’s inside Washington ways look like: he cut a backroom deal with the tax-and-spend candidate he thought could best stop Governor Romney’s campaign of conservative change.

“Governor Romney had enough respect for the Republican voters of West Virginia to make an appeal to them about the future of the party based on issues. This is why he led on today’s first ballot. Sadly, Senator McCain cut a Washington backroom deal in a way that once again underscores his legacy of working against Republicans who are interested in championing conservative policies and rebuilding the party.”

te-he.

Republicans are in an impossible situation. My sociology teacher, 10 years ago, told us about this community that was religiously diverse and with the adherents living closely together. This piqued the curiosity of sociologists. Long story short, one of the observations made which wouldn't surprise a soul was that the Southern Baptists and Mormons hated each other the most and when my teacher said this, he quickly shot a look at the woman next to me, and declared, "And the Southern Baptists started it" and the class laughed. Since the beginning of the semester, and since she learned that this one 40 something year old man in our class was Mormon, she had made vile, nasty remarks under her breath (but just loud enough to be heard) smearing him whenever he spoke, never said anything offensive, just talked about class "stuff". She had also made it known at some point, when learning about revivals in American history, that she was Southern Baptist.

Anyways, if McCain wins, he won't pick Huckabee as his running mate (especially if Obama is the Dem), or if he does, he's a fool. I saw polling pitching hypothetical match-ups with Huckabee against both Dems, and while I think they're mostly meaningless, Huckabee managed to put Utah, Utah!!, and even Colorado and some other conservative state into play that have good sized Mormon populations. I wouldn't think anything of it if it hadn't been so lopsided for Obama in Utah. Hillary didn't fare quite so well; the Utahns do have some limits!

I just don't see McCain, if he's the winner, taking that chance, especially since I've heard many Mormons are saying McCain early on ran on anti-Mormon sentiment. I don't know if that is true, but they absolutely perceive that Huckabee ran basically saying that their existence was an affront to all that was decent and good.

Playing games for tactical benefit is fair and even admirable, but playing games with the expressed will of 41% of the voters? F--- these guys. Be sure to line up and vote for Citizen McKang in November, suckers. --He's so much better than Kodos.

What does one say about a man that had so much honor in his youth once it becomes obvious that he has devolved into a dissembling scumbag that will say or do anything to attain power? McCain is Murtha with a longer descent.

If it comes down to a McCain-Hillary match up in November. I will not vote. This will be my first time in 31 yrs that I will not cast a vote for POTUS.

If it comes down to a McCain-Obama match up in November. I will vote for Obama.

And this is coming from a Republican, 49yr old white female, from Michigan.

I won't like it, but I'd rather have McCain than Obama or Hillary. Who knows where one or the other of these two would take us over the next 4-8 years. I don't like McCain, but it is the difference between the devil and the witch, and the witch, although bad, is preferable to the devil.

"Who knows where one or the other of these two would take us over the next 4-8 years[?]"

Into an endless two-front war in the Middle East? An economic recession? Repeated environmental catastrophes? A collapsing infrastructure?

The horrors of a Clinton or Obama administration truly boggle the mind. Please pass me some kool-aid.

"I don't like McCain, but it is the difference between the devil and the witch, and the witch, although bad, is preferable to the devil."

I thought Clinton was the witch. Or maybe I'm misspelling it.

Putting down McCain and uplifting Romney is not the answer, neither man is a true Conservative.

And it goes to show what the May 15th Prophecy has been saying all along about the condition of the United States

Do a Google search of the May 15th Prophecy and you will see for yourself how 100% it has been

Republicans threatening to vote for Obama who is to the left of Mao Zedong? Coulter promising to support Hillary?

Democrats will win in November and take many more seats in the House and perhaps a Super majority in Senate. They will then appoint 3 Justices who will be to the left of Che Guevera . Then you will regret not supporting John McCain.

Silly posts for sure.

Well, I am a Mormon, Republican woman in Utah, and if McCain is our nominee I WILL vote for the Democratic candidate. I actually think Hillary is more conservative than McCain on some issues.

That said, the Republican Party thinks that conservatives will eventually fall into line and vote for the lesser of the two evils (McCain). I will not.

I will vote Democrat to let my Republican party know that a) they cannot succeed without the conservative base b)McCain does NOT represent my values c) I won't vote party line just because I should and d) the evangelicals need to play nice with the Mormons. Mormons vote for evangelicals. Evangelicals need to stop being so hypocritical.

Utah is gagging at McCain. They will be doubly nauseated if McCain adds Huckabee to the ticket.

I will not vote for McCain, because I want a REAL conservative next time around. The only way to get that point across is if McCain loses in a big way.

Are you having comprehension problems, Lamellama? I am using the devil as the worst possible scenario, which would be a Hillary or Obama win over McCain, and the witch as the lessor of the two evils, which would be McCain. Try to follow along, genius.

oh boohoohoo
Politics ain't beanbag.
Romney needs to butch up. No body likes a whiner, and that's what he looks like here.

Nice try Dennis, but I don't think I will regret it nearly so much as all those newly unemployed polls that served up this trainwreck, or all their enablers that will have to live with the realization that pawning the conservative mantle because of some fleeting polls was the dumbest idea in politics since Nixon tried price controls.

It will take four, maybe eight years to undo this mess. If it's Hillary, the situation will be identical in four years (poisonious business as usual), only Obama will be neutralized by the incumbency of Hillary, and we will be the ones with the message of hope for the future. It will help that her policy initiatives will be self-evident failures by then, and she will have reminded everyone that the divisiveness REALLY started around 1992.

If Obama, (less divisive and doctrinaire) then expect 8 unless he's a total disaster on the scale of Jimmy Carter. I'm not sure how committed he'll be to his ideology once he gets mugged by reality. (His current stances are pretty much a prerequisite to get where he's gotten). I also suspect that he won't be nearly as effective as Hillary at enacting legistlation.

The fiscal/social/natsec conservative wing of the GOP will be able to rebuild with a strong object lesson in why we can safely ignore the wisdom of the people who brought us the "bridge to nowhere", McCain-Feingold, and the Gang of 14. The party should take the opportunity to reexamine it's target audience. We will be better off without the "compassionate with other people's money" crowd that appears to have grown out of the evangelical movement. (One of many recent leftist curiosities: Look at Huckabee and the Jesus hates SUV's people.)

I expect that a majority of people over 30 and less than 60 who work for a living are natural social & fiscal and national security conservatives that run from the party because they DO believe in evolution. And yes, most of them would support overturning Roe and leaving the question of abortion to the states.

I don't much care for having to choose between the "devil and the witch" : both are quite bad.

As an aside, the Bible defines "witchcraft" as the sin of rebellion against God, and this particular sin has destroyed leaders of nations from their place of leadership. (1 Kings 15:23)

In the event of a McCain nomination, I will probably study up on the various independent candidates, especially from the US Constitution Party as much of their platform lines up with my interests... and probably vote for one of them. This will take some of the sting out of not supporting a GOP POTUS nominee for the second time in my voting career (with an exception being Ross Perot in 92. Yeeeeck).

For Mark:

I don't think Jesus hates SUVs.

I think He would rather have someone judge for himself if an SUV is something he needs, or just something to keep around for status.

In the former case, Jesus is well pleased if we bear in mind that the world and all that is in it belongs to Him, and that we are stewards of the things the Lord has blessed us with (be it by the fruits of our labours, or by an outright gift from God).

In the latter case, we (Christians) must take care that we do not let our possessions do not become our idols.

In the end, it is about being accountable to the community and to each other for our own actions, and taking responsibility for the impact we leave, i.e. doing what is right because it is right, not because it is "mandated".

Evolution, Abortion, gay marriage -- those are important issues, but it is not wise to impose a national mandate on these sorts of things. They are best left to the many states to legislate for themselves.

I am a 35 year old republican, if Mccain gets nom which now looks all but inevitable, I will gladly vote for OBama if he gets the dem nod. Why not see what he can do. If he turns out to be a disaster we as republicans get our S*%T together and vote for someone like Romney or Jeb Bush in 2012. If Hillary gets dem nod I'm leaning towards voting for hillary because then we are assured the next four years will be a disaster wherein we as republicans get our S*%T together and vote for someone like Romney or Jeb Bush in 2012.

A vote for Huckabee is a vote for McCain is a vote for a Democrat in November.

I'll probably go third party this year - US Constitution Party - as a protest vote against McCain. After some thought, I cannot in good conscience vote Democratic.

They can ruin this Republic without my support.
