Are they dumb as a box of rocks? You be the judge. Effectively, they are empowering someone else to make a decision they don't like. Talk about being led around by the nose.
"They don't get it," a very tired Romney volunteer told me of her encounters with Huckabee voters. "They hate McCain, but they're voting for Huckabee, and it's the same thing."
Damn shame, too.

No one ever accused people who believe that the earth is 5,000 years old and that the Flinstones is historical fiction to be 'smart'.

It is probably the Mormon wedge.
Sadly, a lot of Christian voters will not yield on this item, even above party loyalty. Christians in particular, in this nation - are not the most politically astute folk - tending to worry first and sometimes only, about socially conservative issues.
Failing to see the full spectrum of issues we conservatives must take a stand on is a dangerous fault, and we should be willing to let a man like Mitt have a fighting chance to save this nation from the certain perils of socialism - God is certainly able to work in Mitt's heart to bring him to repentance and to true faith in Christ... and I'd say even within his Mormonism, he is probably a LOT closer to core Christian values than McCain or the (D) candidates are..

Yeah, smart people know that these people believe the earth is 6,000 years old. Some just THINK they're smart.

Why would Huckleberry supporters turn to Mittens: pro gay, pro abortion, pro gun control? Huckleberry's supporters at least see Huckleberry as an authentic man. Mittens is a flip-flopper who will say anything to get elected, as anyone not dipped in blinding delusion can see. I posit that Huck's supporters DO in fact get it, and what they get is that Mittens is a Fraud who wets his pants whenever McCain or anyone else puts the screws to him. Just because the hallowed conservative establishment sees Mittens as the last white hope for their tax cuts, doesn't mean anyone else is buying it, or that anyone gives a damn about it.

Actually, Creation Science/Young Earth Creationism embraces an age between 6,000 and 10,000 years for the earth.
It's no less incredible than believing that life of great complexity actually evolved upward, against the laws of entropy and thermodynamics from very simple chemicals swirling around in a "primordial soup", any more than life arose from some other pagan god expelling the universe into existence by blowing its nose.
And sorry, Boob - the Flintstones *are* fiction. You should stop watching the Cartoon Network and get out of your apartment in the Projects.
Some fresh air would do your pasty, tubby self some good.

seeker; We aren't appointing a pope or creating a theocracy so maybe it's time to start smacking some bible thumpers around. In truth, the majority of "Christians" that I know are a bit more astute than the flat earthers and Holy Rollers they are painted to be. You're falling for media BS my friend. If you deliberatly seek out an idiot, they are easy to find, so you will.

ROMNEY WINS West Virginia HUGE!

Romney 41%, McCain 16%!
Polls had McCain ahead!

"Ohhh, my mistake." No Chrissy, deliberate ignorance is not a mistake. I'm just saying that if one is going to flaunt their self-importance, they ought to be accurate. Sometimes, BDS just isn't enough.

No offense taken - and I agree. While being scripturally correct is the best thing, backing the right horse who won't bury the nation in a single term is a very close second.
Huckabee (may) be a great preacher, but he was a mediocre governor at best, inept as a matter of course, and would be a waste of a vote for POTUS.
Anyone who cannot see his record for what it was and realize this is pretty close to being a fool.
Posted by: seekeronos | Tuesday, February 05, 2008 at 12:37 PM
Ok,
Update from WV. Apparently you have to get over 50% to get the nod in the state so even though Romney got 41% and beat Huck by 8 and Mccain by 25, they have to keep voting until someone gets over 50%.
This means that the Huck and McCain people could get together and even though Romney won the initial vote by a mile he loses.
What the hell is it that every singe states seesm to have silly rules that favor McCain?
Makes me sick.
Posted by: Bill Mitchell | Tuesday, February 05, 2008 at 12:42 PM
Any other state in the whole damned country, Rommney already nails forst big win, but for some bizarre reason WV has this rulle that NO ONE ELSE HAS and get to keep voting. Geesh.
Posted by: Bill Mitchell | Tuesday, February 05, 2008 at 12:43 PM
Hey Bill, Here's one that should really frost you. WVa was made a state illegally in the first place. Dont fret, it's not so far from 42 to 50% (it's cool to be named after Billy Mitchell)

Message to Huckabee voters:
Mike is a values-oriented family guy. These are great qualities.
BUT you have two problems.
1 Mike can't win. He has failed to rally the republican party outside his evangelical base. There are a lot of evangelicals, but not nearly enough of them to propel a candidate forward.
2 If you vote for Mike now, you WILL hand McCain the nomination.
3 McCain has stated he will not oeverturn Roe v Wade. He will nominate liberal judges to the court. He is opposed to a national Marriage Ammendment, and he did not remain faithful to his first wife.
McCain is not really the guy you want to represent your values, is he? Why not vote for the lesser of two evils in Romney than making an effort to have your voice heard in Mike and then have that voice vanish with McCain?
Evangelical leaders who formerly supported Huckabee are now backing Romney.
Read here: http://fivebrothers.mittromney.com/index.php/blog/taggview
Go to "The Base is Beginning to Rally" and read about Rev. Rob Shenck and Rev. Jesse Lee Peterson. These evangelical supoorters of Mitt are solid pro-life, pro family, and if they have issues with Romney, they would would not be endorsing him.
Posted by: Trista | Tuesday, February 05, 2008 at 12:52 PM
Willie,
My concern is that all of the Mccain supporters will shift to Huckabee and overwhelm Romney. It just makes me mad because in any other states, this would already be a big early and unexpected win for Romney. Now we have to be open to manipulation and skulduggery.
The point is, McCain got only 16%! That's the big national frontrunner right? And why won't the MSM report these early results? Because they don;t favor f***ing John McCain! Grrrrrr!
Posted by: Bill Mitchell | Tuesday, February 05, 2008 at 12:53 PM
That's it. The wicked Robert Byrd and his Krooked Kronies are ensuring abortion-on-demand for all.
Posted by: Chris | Tuesday, February 05, 2008 at 12:56 PM
If I read it correctly, only Huckabee and Mitt will be in the run-off, right?
I do wonder how the McCainiacs will ultimately break... seems kind of contrary that they would go for Huck, but it will be done as a strategic vote against Mitt.
Posted by: seekeronos | Tuesday, February 05, 2008 at 01:02 PM
Oh crud. WV is a caucus.
I wonder when we will ever see the end of these dreadful things with their Byzantine rules.
Posted by: seekeronos | Tuesday, February 05, 2008 at 01:04 PM
"Now we have to be open to manipulation and skulduggery."
C'mon Bill I think with that wide margin it would be hard to manipulate much. Take heart friend, it aint over til it's over. I guess Obama has no real chance. Seems the DNC gets to pick 800 "super delegates" w/in the party. He'd have to have his own super numbers to have a prayer that the nom wont go to Hilda now

Maybe Huck voters realize that if he was leading like McCain, the Romney voters would trash and abandon him the General election too.
Posted by: Roy Mustang | Tuesday, February 05, 2008 at 01:09 PM
"McCain has stated he will not oeverturn Roe v Wade." No president can do that single handedly anyway. Congress isn't going to touch it nor is the court and you'll NEVER get the states to make a majority. So stop using it as an issue. It is not going away, ever.

"--- Maybe Huck voters realize that if he was leading like McCain, the Romney voters would trash and abandon him the General election too. ---"
Now that's purely hypothetical, of course.
Of course, if Huck were leading as he was a few months back... we'd have to be pretty gullible, given all the dumb stuff Huck did as AR guv'na.
Posted by: seekeronos | Tuesday, February 05, 2008 at 01:20 PM
Willie, you know what...the whole Roe v. Wade perspective is not mine, it's the perspective of Huckabee voters. If they were go to McCain over Romney on this issue, then you're right, it's ridiculous. That's all I meant to point out. Many Huckabee voters believe that by nominating conservative judges to the court Roe v Wade could be overturned. IF it were to happen, it won't be at McCain's hands.
Posted by: Trista | Tuesday, February 05, 2008 at 01:55 PM
Roe v Wade (Casey, really) will be vacated with a McCain apointee as the swing vote. The issue will be federalized. McCain will be squishy and broker a compromise with Dems to ban abortions only for contraceptive use.
That means we will still have abortions for rape, incest, and Down Syndrome kids.
Incidence of reported rape will go up. The real question is whether or not President McCain will be squishy in cracking down on the false rape reports for abortions.
And, yes, I can see the future.
Posted by: Roy Mustang | Tuesday, February 05, 2008 at 02:08 PM
There's a simple reason for Huckabee to stay in - if Romney and McCain are close at the end, he can use his delegates to play "kingmaker" and guarantee himself the VP spot.
Doesn't change the fact that he's slimier than weasel shit.
Posted by: ErikTheRed | Tuesday, February 05, 2008 at 02:18 PM
I highly doubt that anything will happen with R.v W. - for the simple fact that most voting Americans are non-Christians, and really don't care that much about the systematic murder of unborn children just so that they can be irresponsible about their sexual practices.
At best, there might be a bit of feather-ruffling over it, but as it has stood the better part of 40 years, it will remain - barring a sudden and sharp shift toward theorepublicanism of a kind that would make the faux-christianity of the Bush'43 term seem like a witches' coven by comparison.
I'll underscore that by saying that the Second Coming of Christ is more likely to restore us back to a true pro-life position than an unlikely alignment of politicians and SCOTUS nominees.
As for any SCOTUS justices deciding to pick nits over a tired old decision, it would require a very large input of public concern and perhaps numerous court cases to percolate up through the Circuit courts to attract the attention of enough Justices to place one of the cases into the Cert Pool.
I think that any serious attempt to overturn R.v W. is a very long shot - including a Constitutional Amendment, which would require 3/4 of the states to ratify it.
In short, Ron Paul has a better chance of getting elected in a landslide win.

"I'll underscore that by saying that the Second Coming of Christ is more likely to restore us back to a true pro-life position than an unlikely alignment of politicians and SCOTUS nominees."
What a nut...
Incidently, Mike 'The Second Coming' Huckleberry just won in the great state of West Virginia. It's God's will, cons!!

Maybe the Huckabee folks withholding their votes for the "lesser" evil are on to something. I must confess that it bothers me when people say that "those votes" belong to Romney, even when those votes represent people who appear unable to see through Huckabee's craven attempt to toady up to McCain by playing blocker.
Some say it is irrational to withhold a vote for McCain in November. I say it is irrational to vote for a democrat in the hopes that he turns into a republican. I also think that bad ideas should get dismantled in the most conspicuous possible way, so blame (a critical component of accountability, which is in turn a prerequisite for change) can be unambiguously assigned to the GOP leadership that gave us 2006 and now seeks to hand us a cult of personality in place of a candidate.
John McCain wants to win the nomination without the conservative vote. I for one am prepared to oblige him for the rest of 2008.
P.S.,
Dan, did you get my quiz via email? I think it would make a good post, but maybe it's too late.

"--- What a nut... ---"
Tell ya what, Chris: you want to talk about "inevitability", the Second Coming of the Lord Jesus Christ is a certain thing.
And as for *you*, "Chris", you WILL surely bow the knee before Him - either by choice in this life, or out of the dreadful, holy terror of the power and majesty in which the Lord Jesus shall be revealed.
"---
10. Be wise now therefore, O ye kings: be instructed, ye judges of the earth.
11. Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling.
12. Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him.
---" (Psalm 2:10-12, KJV)

For Mark:
The news from WV is a setback, but some traction for Huck in a few of the rural Southern states is expected. I think the level of acrimony between Mitt and McCain swayed things to eliminate Mitt (even though he had a 42% vote in the first round of caucusing).
As for the ABM/anti-McCain protest vote... I face this in NY, and will certainly vote for Mitt.
But if McCain gets the 'Nom... I will have a very hard time voting for Hillary or Obama in the general election, even with McCain on the (R) ticket.
In that case, I'll probably go for Dr. Paul if he runs as an independent, or perhaps the US Constitution Party candidate to help assuage my conscience and save myself from voting for an unqualified (D) candidate.
Posted by: seekeronos | Tuesday, February 05, 2008 at 03:03 PM
Also, while I might for Dr. Paul in the general, or the (C) candidate... I'll still pull levers for faithful local and state level (R)s.
If this year brings us an ill omen, we should not give up in the congressional and local contests.

Yeah, he's a nut, chris, and you're a genius for believing that a primordial soup hit by a comet created life, that the universe was created by a big bang(as if there didn't have to be something to bang), and that comets crashing into the Earth created the oceans. Between the two, you're the bigger nut.

"--- The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction. ---" (Proverbs 1:7, KJV)
"--------------------------------------------------
- Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.
- Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
-------------------------------------------"
(Philippians 2:5-11, KJV)
He is very nice, Chris. Jesus loves you - in spite of yourself. But you are a fool if you think you can mock Him and not be held to an account.
"--- Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. ---" (Galatians 6:7, KJV)
He saved you and I - and every other lost sinner born into this world from the penalty due to us for our sins... Chris, we are wicked, evil sinners born into a world of sin, and there is NOTHING we can do to save ourselves. This is why we should fear the Lord: He is able to save and He is able to destroy...
"--- And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. ---" (Matthew 10:28 , KJV)
Therefore, we do well do fear Him, because it is through Jesus alone that we can be saved from an eternity in fiery Hell.
"---
For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour; who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.
For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.
---"
(1 Timothy 2:3-6, KJV)
If you continue to scorn Him and reject His lovingkindess, you shall surely die, and suffer eternal torment.
Yes, you should be *VERY* afraid of God, and fear for your eternal soul... because based upon your words, you are hell-bound.
Unlike George Bush, there is nothing you can do to remove Him from His throne as King of Heaven and Earth.
He is your only ticket out of Hell. I suggest you fear Him, and trust in Him to save your soul, and to be sure that your name is written in the Lord's Book of Life:
"--- And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire. ---"
(Revelation 20:15, KJV)
Tell me, Chris... is your name written in the Book of Life?
Will you escape the eternal torment of Hell?
