I wonder if Ramos has any idea how racist, intolerant, and exclusive is his question? His implication is that all others who speak languages other than English and Spanish would now be required to not only learn English but now Spanish.

How would Ramos react to 121 million Chinese migrating to America who demanded everyone speak their native language, or 121 million Africaners with the multitude of languages they have, so forth and so on.

What is so ignorant about Ramos question is taking place all over Europe where unassimulated immigrants who are becoming majority in the population are demanding the culture and it's laws be changed to accomodate specific cultural (in this case religious) needs.

In any case, any immigrant from whatever country who does have command of the English language will find it almost impossible to move up the ladder of success; they're basically descriminating themselves out of opportunities to build their American dream.

Oh and Wahoo and Weasal before you hit the nativist crap,

I do care about my amigos who have crossed the southern border to become Americans, my question is why are so many(not all mind you) who have come across the border to become Americans are themselves placing all sorts of barriers and limits while acting and behaving as an exclusive group against Americans.

When I lived in Greece I had to learn Greek, which was far better than when I lived in Russia and had to learn Russian(a language very difficult to manage) but this is what I had to do in order to survive in the country I was living.

Why is one specific group(in this case represented by Hispanics) being allowed to descriminate against Americans which is represented in the melting pot of cultures and languages from around the world.

Correction

An immigrant....who does NOT have command of the English language...

On This Day In History:

1847: About 5000 American troops commanded by General Zachary Taylor defeat some 15,000 Mexicans under General Antonio López de Santa Anna near Buena Vista, Mexico.

heh, well one man's shame is another man's culture and heritage.

You can kvetch all you like amigos, its the future and there's not a lot you can do about it, no matter who is in office. Bush and McCain recognize this and don't plan on being the ones to lose the Hispanic vote for Republicans for the next 50 years like Goldwater did for blacks and the Republicans.

Romney would have, due to his rampant pandering and flip-flopping and desire to be the hard right's choice. Which is ironic, seeing as Mormons are very supportive of illegal immigration since a lot of Hispanics are swelling the ranks of the Mormon church and contributing like mad. Utah has a policy of not enforcing federal immigration laws with local officers. Other Mormon conclaves are much the same, and Mormon Temples are sanctuaries for illegals and the Mormons do a lot of missionary work (masquerading as charity and support) in the illegal community and for illegals and their families.

Even though I support fairer and more liberal (in the classic sense) immigration laws, its another good reason to despise Romney for blowing whichever way the wind does. And Romney does blow.

A truly laughable article I read this week was all about Romney biding his time until '12 if McCain loses (or even if he wins) and how he will be the presumptive frontrunner. I think Huckabee will hold that honor, and since Romney can't win in the South and Huck cleans up there, it would be pretty much a repeat of '08, without McCain there to take the independent votes. And since Romney is posing as an extremist conservative, he sure won't get them.

I'd enjoy see him flush another $100M USD of his own money down the shitter, however.

Doc, are you trying to say that the political and religious institutions in America are not really about human rights, liberty, freedom for all God's children but about filling the pews and stuffing the voter's box?

For some time now I have questioned religious instituions regarding several things which do not uphold God's words but are instead preaching Marx's words(Huckabee is one such preacher which represents an example), the Methodist minister endorsing Obama(who voted for partial-birth procedure) is another, Mormon-Methodist-Catholic-Church-of-Christers breaking laws to help law-breakers is another, Episcoplian is all over the place but still has the rituals.

I cannot help but wonder if God is disheartened to witness his little lambs being hypnotized by the serpent's tongue.

I believe that my creator, God, grants my right to freedom and liberty; I do not believe in the classwarfarist, the slave traders, the government's Golden Entitlement Coins, the Eco-imperialist, the Collectivist and their Liberal Materialists.

In case you haven't noticed the Democrat Party has destroyed blacks in America over the last 50 years when they replaced God with the Government; they now need Hispanics to replace all those they have ruined through their Liberal Fascist's "Negro Project".

If you really do care about your Hispanic amigos you would not be treating them as if they're atomized human beings but as individuals whose rights come from GOd and not the government.

uh, how am I "treating" them unlike individuals?

I find the anti-immigrationalists are doing that. I'd guess they are the people who don't actually know or are not related to someone victimized by an unfair immigration system that discriminates against Mexicans.

ROFL blacks are doing better now than at any time in America's history. Sure there are ghettos in some of the big cities, but all major races in the USA have them. There is still much work to be done for sure, but to suggest that somehow the party that embraced "separate but equal" 50 years ago would have been the prescient ones is ridiculous.

To suggest blacks have given up God is highly ignorant as well.

How easy is it for an American to get a visa to live and work in Mexico? And, if he/she gets one, how long before citizenship is available?

"Not everyone accepted the Brown v. Board of Education decision. In Virginia, Senator Harry F. Byrd, Sr.(D)organized the Massive Resistance movement that included the closing of schools rather than desegregating them. See, for example, The Southern Manifesto. For more implications of the Brown decision, see Desegregation.

In 1957, Arkansas Governor Orval Faubus (D) called out his state's National Guard to block black students' entry to Little Rock High School. President Dwight Eisenhower responded by deploying elements of the 101st Airborne Division from Fort Campbell, Kentucky to Arkansas and by federalizing Faubus' National Guard.

In 1963, Alabama Gov. George Wallace (D) personally blocked the door to Foster Auditorium at the University of Alabama to prevent the enrollment of two black students. This became the infamous "Stand at the Schoolhouse Door," where Wallace personally backed his"segregation now, segregation tomorrow, segregation forever." policy he stated in his 1963 inaugural address.[23] He moved aside only when confronted by federal marshals and Deputy Attorney General Nicholas Katzenbach."

And then we have this:

In the Senate, Minority Leader Everett Dirksen had little trouble rounding up the votes of most Republicans, and former presidential candidate Richard Nixon also lobbied hard for the bill.

Senate Majority Leader Michael Mansfield and Senator Hubert Humphrey led the Democrat drive for passage, while the chief opponents were Democrat Senators Sam Ervin, of later Watergate fame, Albert Gore Sr., and Robert Byrd.

Senator Byrd, a former Klansman whom Democrats still call "the conscience of the Senate", filibustered against the civil rights bill for fourteen straight hours before the final vote.

The House of Representatives passed the bill by 289 to 126, a vote in which 79% of Republicans and 63% of Democrats voted yes. The Senate vote was 73 to 27, with 21 Democrats and only 6 Republicans voting no. President Johnson signed the new Civil Rights Act into law on July 2, 1964.

Overall, there was little overt resistance to the 1964 Civil Rights Act.

The struggle was not yet over, however, as most southern state governments remained under the control of segregationist Democrats.

It was a Republican federal judge who desegregated many public facilities in the South.

Appointed by President Eisenhower in 1955, Frank Johnson had overturned Montgomery, Alabama's infamous "blacks in the back of the bus" law in his very first decision.

During the 1960s, Judge Johnson continued to advance civil rights despite opposition from George Wallace, Lester Maddox, and other Democrat Governors.

Those colored folk should be THANKFUL for Republicans. Sadly, the Broken Old Man voted against giving them a holiday. Maybe they wont remember that in November.

"--- To suggest blacks have given up God is highly ignorant as well. ---"

Now that depends upon which god one accounts to be the true God.

A great many blacks are finding "religion" - in prisons as they bow the knee in idolatrous worship to the false moon "god", Allah.

And they shall be a very dangerous lot to contend with if and when they are released back into mainstream society, where a good number of them are finding refuge in radical Islamist enclaves such as Islamberg, NY.

"---------
Although Islamberg may have a hard time competing with Disney World as a vacation Mecca, at least it doesn't have to pay taxes. It is a branch of Muslims of the Americas Inc., a nonprofit "charitable organization" linked to Jamaat ul-Fuqra — a radical Islamic group that actively recruits potential terrorists in our prison system, which is where most of the residents of Islamberg come from.

Similar facilities are springing up all around the country. They allow the homegrown terrorists who discover Islam in jail to go through boot camp without having to be shipped to Pakistan, as was done in the past. The Beltway Sniper John Allen Muhammad and the Shoe Bomber Richard Reid have both been linked to Jamaat ul-Fuqra. But apparently that's no reason to put it on the US Terror Watch List — or even ask it to pay taxes.

As for the original idea of this post, I think we all should have the *choice* to learn Spanish (or any other second language) if we so desire... but we should not be forced to learn it as a nation in order to accommodate the newcomers.

Just like I'd be expected to learn the local language in any country I moved to for a long enough time.

The only reason English enjoys international currency is because we are riding on the coattails of the British Empire from the previous century, which did a right splendid job of conquering and making the language "numero uno" in the world.

Much as French enjoyed its time in the sun from Charlemagne until the Renaissance, and Latin during the time of the Imperium Romanum, and Koine Greek in the ancient world before it.

Perhaps a day will come when Spanish supplants English as the "Lingua Mundi" -- but I think the 1200 Mn. speakers of Mandarin Chinese put the 500 Mn. speakers of Spanish to something less than a major plurality.

Seek - BTW I have 8 more countries that have English as their official language between the Atlantic and Pacific (WH), in case Lame-o ever shows up again.

rofl "moon god" you are such a bigot

syn sez: "Oh and Wahoo and Weasal before you hit the nativist crap."

Willie Asks: WTF are you talking about you dolt? Since English is likely your second language (which I applaud) I give you some leeway in your accusatory tone. Still I would like you to explain what makes ME a nativist? Before I call you an idiot.

"rofl "moon god" you are such a bigot"

Together with all the other kitchen utensils, laughing even harder at seeing LOL call someone a bigot.

Seek: Dude, it's the same God, different profits.........

"--- Seek: Dude, it's the same God, different profits......... ---"

In this, I beg to differ.

There is but One God, of Whom there are three persons, the Father, the Son (Jesus Christ), and the Holy Spirit.

All other gods, idols, "spiritual concepts", etc. are of the Devil, and are meant to delude and distract us from the true worship of the Father, through the Son, in the power of the Holy Spirit.

As for "profits" ... yes, there are sadly many who peddle the name of Christ to turn a buck or three.

If you meant "prophets", then I'll say that a true prophet of God is has a few requirements (in that there are many false prophets - and many antichrists who preach perversion of the gospel).

One of the principle requirements is that the prophet always be 100% true in everything he says prophetically (i.e. if he prophesies and it does not bear to be true, then he is a false prophet.

Another requirement is that he speak the word of God. (I could elaborate on this in greater length, but it would go far beyond the scope of the original post).

I'll not consider anyone like Mohammed who preached things very much in contradiction to the Word of God as His prophet.

"There is but One God."

Yep, the ONE for Jews, Muslims and Christians. All of whom further follow seperate profits and thereby create their own religious values. Bud, I REALLY don't need you, or anyone else, telling me about the Holy trinity, etc. In fact it is the easiest, best way to alienate me because being lost on an island with a Jew, a Muslim, A Catholic, a Mormon and a holy roller with "the only key to the gate of heaven" Me and the first four would have a great time talking as we become canibals

Eh, Sorry seeker. I sat through part of one of those penecostal, only we are going to heaven, holy roller, misconstruing the Bible sermons yesterday until I'd heard enough. I'll totally despise "organized religion" for a while and I should not take it out on you. Makes me seem like some of our troll friends and I apologize.

No prob, Willie (or shall I call you "Wahoo"... :)

I've got a pretty thick skin when it comes to my faith.

I can't say as much as I go in for the Pentecostal snake-handling --- it is much more about the "show" than the "go" with that lot. I don't major too much on what Catholics, Mormons, Jews or even Muslims do (unless he is heading at me with a drawn sword), because Jesus has already proven to me that He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. (John 14:6)

And besides all that, I'm not the one sitting as judge sorting out who gets into heaven and who doesn't. That judgment belongs only with the Lord Jesus.

My advice on "religion", if you are willing to accept it... is to not get caught up in the "trappings" of religion, nor be put off by fakes and hypocrites. Set your eyes upon Jesus, and you shall do well.

Set your eyes on His idiot followers (of which I am prone to be one) for too long, you'll see us stumble and fall. Though I am saved, I still have feet of clay.

The upshot is, in Christ, we can get back on up and keep pressing on to the mark of being made new creations in Him.

If nothing else, if you sincerely want to get to know Christ apart from all the "organized" Churchi-anity out there, I'd tell you to grab a Bible and look up Jeremiah 29:11-13 (link: http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Jeremiah%2029:11-13;&version=9; )

seeker: Truth is we seem to agree far more than disagree in our beliefs. I dont burn up much time with those parts of the Bible that aren't pretty specific to Jesus life/teachings. See, I cannot reconcile those parts that tell me to stone my neighbor for mowing his grass on Sunday to Jesus telling me about his ox being in a ditch.

and either Wahoo or Willie is fine because as I've told you, I stole it from a friend's nme for his resturant. I may change it.
