They're either dense, or just dumb.
New York Times 0, New Republic 0, McCain 1
How two publications spooked each other into running weak stories. By Timothy Noah
There is no adding up wins and losses in this game - it's narrative construction. Pay attention.
One weak story involving what? A lobbyist? Influence peddling, sex? Sure, in February, when it doesn't matter ... except that McCain hasn't even been introduced to the electorate as the nominee, yet. That stuff doesn't really happen until after the respective conventions, no matter how well known the candidate.
By then, McCain will be a soiled old DC hand who has been around forever with plenty of back stories and major and minor scars to taint him, especially as compared to the bright new shiny star - and fresh start - that is Obama.
Scoring narrative construction like a baseball game is a fool's errand. And fool's always lose in the end.
