If the justices over 70 aren't likely to make it through a McCain term, what is it McCain is really trying to say here? Oof! McCain is over 70, as well. And McCain's team circulated the article, so this is fair game. Dumb move.
On Jan. 20, 2009, six of the nine Supreme Court justices will be over 70. Most of them could be replaced by the next president, particularly if he or she is re-elected. Given the prospect of accelerating gains in modern medical technology, some of the new justices may serve for half a century. Even if a more perfect candidate were somehow elected in 2012, he would not be able to undo the damage, especially to the Supreme Court.

You forgot to mention one will be nearly 90, and two will be nearly 80.
If any, or all, of these retires would you rather have 75 year-old McCain or 42-year-old Obama doing the nominating for the ones who will be on the bench for the next 40 years?
Of course I know your answer to that! It probably sounds like this!
nyah nyah nyah! I won't vote for McAmnesty! nyah nyah nyah, even if it kills me! nyah nyah nyah!
By the way, that's Mitt drowning, not Mitt waving, and you, Sir, are clutching at straws!

You got it wrong, exlax.
McCain is almost certain to get nominated because of the MSM spin machine being ginned up and in overdrive. If the MSM is to be believed, he will easily sweep tomorrow's primaries to collect well over 700 or 800 delegates.
Of course, I am hoping beyond hope that the polls and the MSM which drives their train are wrong... but it is what it is: the polls were right about Rudy, and they were right about Fred!
He is but the epitome of a straw man, a paper tiger to be swatted down with stupendous ease by the (D) candidate, as s/he will have the force of the entire MSM juggernaut as s/he effortlessly steamrolls over the weak-brained and mean-spirited angry old man, as millions of Dhimmicrats laugh riotously at the demise of the GOP.
If McCain gets the "Nom", the GOP will be FINISHED, DONE, ZERSTOERT, FINITO, and 死んだ for the next several generations... if it even has a chance of reviving at all.
There WILL be *NO* McCain SCOTUS picks, only far-left MoveOn.org annointed Marxists that would make R.B. Ginsburg look like Rush Limbaugh in a fit of pique.
And you, sir... can take that to the bank. I'm calling it an Obama - McCain landslide -- both electoral and popular vote.

Ha! Typical grounded and well reasoned argument from the anti-McCainites.

Exactly WHO has to please whom here? Conservative voters now have to please the Republican Elites? don't count on it.

The other ace in the hole that the Democrat candidate has is that I for one would vote for Obama before I would vote for John McCain, but would vote for McCain before Hillary-at least I would try to force myself to vote for McCain over Hillary. It would not be easy.
