"--- Susan Sarandon, who announced last week that she supports Obama for president and “can’t wait to see what he stands for.” ---"

Yeah, I really think *Susan Saran-Wrap* has a clue about what is best for this nation. Gee, why don't she go jump in the lake with an anvil strapped to her back to while she's at it, too... it might just do her career some good.

"--- Yes, infant education. Never underestimate a leftist’s ingenuity in finding ways to spend your money. ---"

LOL... so very true. If I didn't know any better, I'd say the Dems have those new IRS form 1040-G's all set up: the "G" being for "give all yer money".

Hmmm. Here's a possible reason why Lefties and Commies like the Obamas want to TAKE all your money...

...it is because rich liberals (the *true* proletariat elites) would much rather have the middle class (the bourgeoisie) pay out of their pockets for all their hare-brained social programs.

"Party of the Working Class", my foot.

Check it:

http://www.examiner.com/a-1227178~Who_gives_more_to_charitable_causes__conservatives_or_liberals_.html

Of note, this is most interesting:

"--- Those who work in fundraising for charities understand that generosity frequently declines as wealth increases. People of modest incomes in rural South Dakota or Mississippi are typically far more generous than those in affluent areas like San Francisco or Manhattan. What Brooks, who identifies himself as one who was raised in a politically liberal family, found to be most striking was that “liberals, who often claim to care more about others than conservatives do, are personally less charitable.” Brooks was surprised to discover that religious conservatives are the most generous of all.

It might seem obvious on first blush that religious people do give significantly, primarily to their faith communities. However, what Brooks found goes far deeper. “Religious people do not outperform secularists in charity simply because of their gifts to houses of worship. Religious people are, inarguably, more charitable in every measurable way,” he wrote. ---"

Why yes of course Ms. Sarandon supports the candidate who votes to continue Planned Parenthood founder Margaret Sanger's "Negro Project"; after all Ms Hollywood, a stanch Liberal like Obama, believes sucking out a baby's brain is a perfectly acceptable approach for bringing Hope, Change and Purity to America's soul.

Money for Infant Education? What good is that program when Liberals keep sucking out their brains?

Yeah, but us liberals want the government to tax people(not us) and force them to give to charity. That's kinda like giving to charity, or it's close enough for us liberals. Anyway, we need our latte, and sushi, and paxil, and we need to be entertained! Now, enough of this talk about charitable giving. Do what we say, not what we do, dammit!

I agree with you that Hillary would be harder for McCain to beat than Obama. I think lots of people having been voting for Obama in order to get Hillary out of the way. Come the general election they will then vote for McCain. First we have to beat the dreaded Hillary. Then the pretender who is trying to channel JFK and be the new Abraham Lincoln all in one slick trick. He is using phrases from JFK speeches and doing a pretty good job of speechifying. But is America ready for the Messiah?

People are sheep. If Rolling Stone tells them "Bush is evil" they believe it with unbridled loyalty. Nobody checks the sources or does their own independent thinking or research. Why? Because Rolling Stone and NYT tells me how and what to think!

Conversely, when Rolling Stone announces "Obama = Change, GOOD change!". Thousands of pierced 20 and 30 somethings, begin to zombie worship Obama with eyes glazed over, no questions asked!

The younger gen doesn't want to think. They want to BLOG.

obama? no way !

"--Hmmm. Here's a possible reason why Lefties and Commies like the Obamas want to TAKE all your money...

I don't know what President Obama you are referencing.
http://www.cnn.com/2007/POLITICS/09/18/obama.taxplan/index.html

Mine wants to offer a $500/person tax break to help reimburse my losses on the payroll tax.

Of course, I'm not making over $200k/year. So I can see how you millionaires out there are extraordinarily pissed at Obama for cheating you out of all your hard earned dough.

"--The younger gen doesn't want to think. They want to BLOG.--"

Well said. People who read, comment on, and write their own blogs are total ignorant tools! I'm so glad neither of us do that.

I think I have discovered why Rush Limbaugh has 35 million listeners. It is because there are 33 million illiterates in the USA. The other 2 million can read but nobody ever taught them to think for themselves.
Here is what the old timers used to say: "Don't believe anything you hear and only half of what you see".

"Mine wants to offer a $500/person tax break to help reimburse my losses on the payroll tax."

So your vote can be bought for a mere $500.00? No other issue matters, just that you'll get what...a weeks pay?

"--- Mine wants to offer a $500/person tax break to help reimburse my losses on the payroll tax. ---"

Heh. Really?

I have been getting $600 or such back every year, so does this mean I'll be loosing $100 under Obama, or getting back $1100 now?

And there's that pesky war we keep hearing about with a massive bill to foot. Does my tax check come before or after we hike the taxes to pay for it (or the other 25,000 various social programs including "guaranteed gummint health care" and "guaranteed gummint infant education", among other fun things) ?

I've changed my opinion that Hillary would be easier to beat then Obama: Obamania, by definition, will not wear well 9 months from now. You can't keep up this kind of crazy enthusiasm for that long, through literally hundreds and hundreds of news cycles.

The people most likely affected by it aren't likely to vote 9 months out, either, the political newcomers and the very young.

Further, eventually the press, whether it likes it or not, is going to have to start examining his actual policies, and they will find no there, there. Other than typical liberal boilerplate. His foreign policy is not only impractical, its dangerously naive.

Finally, even as much as the press loves him, there reaches a point in a fad, where when everyone loves it, it quickly becomes passe, and to be cutting edge and a rebel, you have to be contrary and NOT love what the masses are loving. I mean, when your parents love Chinpokoman, its not too cool for college kids to still be into Chinpokoman (you SP fans know what I mean). And when the entire student body are gushing for Obama, you quickly run out of things to say about how he inspires you, and it becomes apparent he and his fans repel you.

By mid-summer, the anti-Obama pieces will come thick and fast, and his star will fall the same way. With no more primaries to organize for and celebrate, we get down to the dull, basic grind of the campaign. McCain should mop the floor with Obama in debates. Obama will not be able to say jack about ANYTHING military in disagreement with McCain without looking like an idiot. Obama has zero legislative record (other than voting present or skipping votes entirely). The war is going well, and should improve even more, by even Al-Qaeda's admission.

I have flipped to rooting for Obama. Hillary is a dangerous foe. The timing was just right for her overthrow and Dems who support her rabidly over ANY Republican actually hate her guts and will take anyone liberal over her in the primaries. Obama will unite the Republican base just as much as Hillary when it comes down to brass tacks.

Interesting side-note: the conservative narrative of "sitting it out rather than vote for McCain" has pretty much dissipated. Was it an empty threat or just the impotent rumblings of a movement whose time has past and whose adherents are facing up to the political realities of 2008 and beyond?

The country's mood has long since changed, and we are just now recognizing it. Reaganism is dead, the Reagan coalition is splintered and you can't put Humpty Dumpty back together again. I don't expect to see another "conservative" nominee, let along president, in the mold of (snicker) Mitt Romney in my lifetime, 40-50 years optimistically.

doc; Do you expect to live 40-50 years?

"--So your vote can be bought for a mere $500.00? No other issue matters, just that you'll get what...a weeks pay?--"

Your depth perception is second to none, Willie. All of Obama's other policies - for good or for ill - are totally irrelevant to me. I am, solely and exclusively, consumed with getting a tax cut.

If I knew where you lived, I would drive to your house and give you a cookie.

Geeze LLama you aren't usually this testy. What's with the ill humor, bad day at school? Normally I would welcome a college kid and her cookies but a: I've had enough of kids and young adults for a while and b: You could be an axe murderer and I dont want you to know where I live.

I'm glad you asked these enlightening questions.

"--I have been getting $600 or such back every year, so does this mean I'll be loosing $100 under Obama, or getting back $1100 now?--"

You'll be getting back an additional $500, assuming you are making under the $90k cap on Social Security.

"--And there's that pesky war we keep hearing about with a massive bill to foot. Does my tax check come before or after we hike the taxes to pay for it (or the other 25,000 various social programs including "guaranteed gummint health care" and "guaranteed gummint infant education", among other fun things) ?--"

This - if you'd bothered to read the article - would have been explained more clearly, as the lower income tax cut comes at the expense of the upper income tax breaks provided by the 15% capital gains tax and a number of other corporate and personal tax shelter options available at the highest ends of the income spectrum. You can expect to see your taxes increase if you make more than $200k/year, for instance.

I honestly haven't seen Obama's plan to pay off the war. I haven't seen McCain or Hillary with any plans either, to be honest.

LLama: Your better off going to their own sights and checking out their "plans" than reading magazine articles.

And another reason not to have you vist C: I have this picture in my mind of an adorable college freshie and the reality may cause me a stroke.

Ah, Doc... you never fail to disappoint lately.

You started out strong and soundly with contrasting and comparing Hillary and Obama, and why the one or the other would be a more or less difficult opponent against McCain.

Then you drop off into the snark pit about an item already two weeks old... I mean, you just don't dip into a little Schadenfreude here, you *ladle* that stuff on!

You make a note about the "empty threat" of we'uns sitting it out. Well, the last few weeks found us in the toilet puking our guts out in disgust, and then reaching for that sobering dose of reality that we just ain't going to get our way this time around.

The reality is:

- Ron Paul has little or no chance of holding TX-14, much less running for a 3rd party or independent run for POTUS

- Every other conservative candidate (that I'd be willing to support) has either ran out of money, bolted for the door, or got behind the Party establishment's choice

- A sizeable dose of anti-Mormon bigotry may have played certain states and voters in those states into "Huck the Spoiler"'s hands, with him still sticking around to make a name for himself (although I think it will keep his name out there, it has a greater effect of keeping Mac current in news cycles devoted either to shredding him or to ignoring him in favor of Hills or Obama).

And between the Constitution Party, still to small to make a difference even in congressional ballots, much less whoever the token character they run for POTUS, as well as Bill Quick's organization, and let us not forget the Libertarians... the "Party of Pot"... who simply have no hope of mustering more than a token handful of protest votes for their guys.

By no means am I liking Johnny Mac nor voting for him because I think he is such a great guy. I'm voting for him as an anti-vote against whichever of the two Bobsey Twins the Dems put up.

...And then, you dog on into some nonsense about the Reagan coalition being dead.

Well, then. We'll just have to eat our crow now, and get behind McCain, because I don't want the blood on my hands of a Hillary or Obama presidency.

We conservatives are still here, and we will likely work with the hand of cards that the people (and to great degree, the media and the party machinery) has dealt us. Just like Reagan and Goldwater worked with those largely wealthy New Englander/Rockefeller Republicans who horked up Gerald Ford in 1976.

Perhaps we will get lucky this time around and win the general election. Odd are good this time around with Hillary and Obama's negatives starting to come to light.

And even if history repeats itself and Obama hands Mac his keister on a platter in the general... Lord willing, we will be around in 2012 to clean up the mess, if the 2010 congressional races haven't seen a swing toward eliminating the prospect of a filibuster-proof Dem Congress.

"--LLama: Your better off going to their own sights and checking out their "plans" than reading magazine articles.--"

True. Either way, these are questions you can have answer with a magic touch of Google. Don't cry at me because you don't like the source enough.

"--And another reason not to have you vist C: I have this picture in my mind of an adorable college freshie and the reality may cause me a stroke.--"

Don't die on us too soon, WW, or you'll never enjoy the sweet, sweet government funded medical care.

"Don't die on us too soon, WW, or you'll never enjoy the sweet, sweet government funded medical care."

HA!! I've already been a victim of it. Could still except I believe guys worse off than me should use VA health "care". Now be nice and leave me my illusion of you intact.

"...or you'll never enjoy the sweet, sweet government funded medical care."

Who the hell do you think picks up the tab for the vast majority of medical care for the uninsured in America today, dummy? Cause when you go to the Hospital, they can't turn you down, dufus, including illegal aliens. And the government pays. Jesus, you people are stupid!

"If he's really smart, he'll bail on his senate seat and run for Governor after this year."
Very perceptive, Dan, off hand I cannot think of any Senator who went directly to being a President…from being a Governor, on the other hand….
‘…Susan Sarandon, who announced last week that she supports Obama for president and “can’t wait to see what he stands for.”’ Comedy springs eternal in Hollywood!

re: Wahoo
Sure, its completely within the realm of possibility I'll be around in 40-50 years, the life expectancy is what, 76 or more and rising? I don't know how old you assume I am but if I'm at least average life expectancy I'll hit 45+ more years no problem, I don't smoke or drink and I'm several pounds below my optimum weight and live a pretty active lifestyle, so 50 more years if more likely than not.

DocWeasal

My father didn't smoke, was a moderate wine drinker, ate all the 'healthy foods', was several pounds below optimum weight, exercised daily, meditated, had bi-annual physicals and believed he would live to 110.

Bless his soul he ended up with stage four lung cancer(he hated smokers!!) and died three months after diagnosis at the age of 69.

Whatever realm of possibility you think you know is meaningless with regard to the reality of life and death.

Humans have no more control over death than they do over controlling the climate.

"Humans have no more control over death than they do over controlling the climate."

Syn that was the reason for asking the question, I just meant to let docweasel think about his pronouncement. I've seen a lot of sick and dead atheletes in 30+ years in EMS.

"And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment..."

(Hebrews 9:27a, KJV)

"And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry.

But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided?"

(Luke 12:19-20, KJV)

May you have a long, healthy life, doc. Perhaps, if you keep your eyes open and get lucky, nearer the end of it you will be far less of a jive-ass punk than you are today. Best wishes always, your friend Fred.

And, just a few more things for you to think about, doc. I strongly believe life expectancy is going down in the US due to a variety of factors. Immigrants are bringing diseases to the US that are antibiotic resistant, and as they are already infected, they are costing the medical system in the US large amounts of money, and the costs will only go up as more and more of them come into the country. There will be less money to be spent on citizens, as medical care is a finite resource. Also, these diseases will not have a cure, so if you happen to get them, which will become more likely as more and more of these sick people enter the US, then you will die. I'll use antibiotic resistant tuberculosis as one example. There are others, including malaria.

Two, as oil and other imports take a bigger bite, the US will be a poorer nation, therefore less can and will be spent on health care. Again, you are likely to suffer as a result, unless you are among the super-rich.

Three, gridlock in government will prevent things from getting done that need to be done. For example, fewer roads will be built and maintenance on the remaining roads will suffer. You will be more likely to be killed in an accident.

Four, crime in the US is going to get much worse, and you will be much more likely to be a victim of a violent crime. Again, criminal illegal aliens will add to the crime rate, but even worse will be the large numbers of uneducated and underemployed living in major cities.

I could go on, but you get the point. You may be among the generation that lives a shorter lifespan than its parents. Or maybe not. Everything I said might not happen, but the potential exists, unless something changes in this nation.

I dunno know for certain how hard or fast the downward slope of the Hubbert Peak is going to be (I'd venture to guess that TK, you have your fingers on the pulse of that much more closely than the average Joe)...

...but it does not bode well.

I think that the industrialized West in general will be feeling the pinch, but America especially so, as we really haven't adjusted to paying what the Euros and most of Asia pays for its gas.

This will also be sparked by a sudden desire for the Araby to divest itself of weak, volatile, and perhaps worthless dollars for the stronger Euro, Yen, Yuan Renminbi, and Pound Sterling. (In due course, those currencies shall also fail as the dollar takes down those other fiat currencies with it).

Until and unless we convert in short order to PEV's (plug-in electric vehicles) on a massive scale - to include shifting more of our distribution network to trains and building more nuclear and clean coal plants among other solutions in a wide-spectrum renewable resource regime to rival the Apollo program of the 1960s... we will be facing oil shortages, food shortages, race and culture wars and the eventual dissolution and/or balkanization of the Republic.

Unfortunately, the overwhelming sweep of history provides that the masses of mankind in declining empires are generally stupid and devoid of intelligence, and woefully prone to excesses when clinging on to the last fraying remains of that empire so seized up from riotous living and festering rot within, and foreign barbarians and plunderers without.

But when all else seems bleak, fear the man who comes forth with the golden solutions to all our problems - and he who comes bearing a "mark" for you to take.

Whatever you do, for love of bread, water, or money... do not take the mark.

"--But when all else seems bleak, fear the man who comes forth with the golden solutions to all our problems - and he who comes bearing a "mark" for you to take.

Whatever you do, for love of bread, water, or money... do not take the mark.--"

What was the "mark" last time? Social Security Numbers? Credit Cards? IP Addresses? I think the buck has passed on this prophecy about a dozen times in the last century.

I always enjoyed a funny little hypothetical that the end times actually happened way back in the 1950s - WW2 was the epic struggle between good and evil, Jesus already came and went and we've been living in a post-Revelations world ever since.

I don't claim to know physical form that the "mark" will take, other than it will be a mark that you must take in your right hand or on your forehead.

It could be a (invisible?) tattoo, a microchip like the VeriChip ID, some other biometric ID crendential perhaps based on RFID technology, or a national/international ID number.

Or it could simply be a matter of acknowledging with your mind and with your right hand crossed over your heart the person and regime of the Man of Perdition who will come in the power and in the place of the Living Son of God, claiming both political and religious supremacy for a season of time... a willing acknowledgment that you believe this present, evil, corrupted world system and its god (the Devil) own you.

Essentially, it will be akin to giving yourself over to this Antichrist for the sake of being able to eat, drink or trade: a deal with the Devil from which there is absolutely no hope of redemption.

And unfortunately, millions, if not billions of people will fall to his deception and deny Christ.
