It's a typical political tactic - go after the front runner on the other side. Some Republicans often use it against Hillary. Obama claims McCain fell in line just to gain the Republican nomination. I can't imagine where he gets these ideas. (eye roll)
Unfortunately, McCain's electable argument - the ability to reach across the aisle - is going to give the straight talk express some 'splainin' to do, no matter who gets the Democrat nomination. And when it comes to those precious Independents that comprise McCain's base? It was reported on Fox last night that they are breaking for Obama in a general election.
If McCain and Hillary get their respective nods, he can contrast the issue to Hillary's divisive quotient. Either way, McCain has to run from the center in the Fall because of his record, much like the image Obama portrays even now on the stump. That could make it hard to craft a platform without alienating the traditional Republican base. And in the campaign itself, it's going to do little to gain him trust with the same group. He needs Hillary to have a chance of winning in the Fall - unless what some presume as racism among white and especially white male voters undercuts Obama's broader appeal.
Speaking on the importance of fiscal responsibility Obama today said the following about McCain: "Now there was a time when some Republicans like John McCain agreed with me on this. There was a time when Senator McCain courageously defied the fiscal madness of tax cuts for the wealthy in the midst of a costly war. But that was before he started running for the Republican nomination and fell in line. And now he like all the Republican nominees want to make permanent the tax cuts that he once denounced. Well, I have not changed my mind and the Bush policies have been a disaster for America. And I will end them when I'm president of the United States of America."

"...the Bush policies have been a disaster for America." by Obama.
I keep looking for the disasters the Dems keep talking about. One would think if there were so many disasters, one would notice some evidence of them. I can't see any, can you?

I can name one disaster, Fred.
It is called an Obama landslide in November over McCain that makes Reagan-Mondae '84 look like a tight race.
And I'll even call odds on it - 528 electoral votes to 7 for McCain. Now I gotta run and get this time machine/doom dimensioning portal back to Fox News before they realize I took it for a ride...
