McCain is going to come out ahead tonight, but with what must be a look at early exits, just now on Fox News, Fred Barnes said it looks like he won't consolidate the base enough tonight to emerge as the obvious nominee. I don't know how much stock to put in that, but Barnes is a McCain guy. He wouldn't be saying that for no reason. Based on early exits - not always a good indicator - McCain doesn't get the largest number of delegates projected, but takes the lead.
Most likely Huckabee is doing better in the South, ultimately taking delegates from McCain. Unfortunately, we know where those delegates may end up at end. But if the story is McCain falls short of expectations, we're on to the next primaries. Keep in mind, McCain is on record as saying he would secure the nomination tonight.
