Victor Davis Hanson on the Right's rejection of McCain. I am growing increasingly tired of these one hit wonders - (it's the GWOT, stupid) - who believe that only the candidate with the most heated rhetoric against radical Islam can protect America. I happen to believe all the Republican challengers would and wrapping conservatism into just one banner is selling it short.
But no surprise VDH would be a McCain guy. He's an academic who gives the impression of always getting a stiffy when he's around military types. He's incredibly talented, but he can shove his pretentious lecturing up his evac pipe. Heh, if the Right is going to fight, we may as well make it good! ; ) Winning the GWOT is critical, but it isn't the only battle conservatives have to win. And we expect a leader who can lead on more than one front. Suddenly, that's too much to ask? BS.
If Hillary Clinton does end up winning her party’s nomination, November’s vote may hinge on whether moderates and liberals are nauseated enough by the Clintons’ brawling and character assassination to cross over and vote for a decorated Republican war hero — that is, if his own flag-waving party doesn’t destroy him first.

You're exactly right. The GWOT is important, but McCain-Feingold's eviscerating of the 1st Amendment to protect incumbents and McCain-Kennedy's evisceration of our sovereignty harm our Republic far more than anything al-Qaeda has ever done.

McCain uses the Constitution as toilet paper.
He hates free (political) speech, he is a gun-grabber, he thinks we ought to be subject to the International Criminal Court and the UN, and he supports the Law of the Sea and insane carbon emissions limiting schemes which will damage our economy.
He is a shameless socialist and is part and parcel with the George Soros cabal to ruin this Republic who does not belong in the GOP.
I've held back from saying so much before, but mark my words: he will prove to be much more the enemy of this Republic and a treasonous snake than any combination of Clintons, Obama, or the moonbat leftards over at MoveOn.org and International ANSWER.

The GWOT will not be won until the evils of Islam are confronted and GWOT is properly named The Defence Against Jihad. Today American soldiers are dying in Afghanistan supporting a country whose Sharia law courts have sentenced a man to death for blasphemy.
John McCain does not have the commuunication skills or executive experience necessary to take on this assignment. In fact he is so daunted by the communications challenges involved in confonting Islamists and their apologizers that rather than fight the communications battle surrounding Gitmo he wants to close Gitmo and give Islamic terrorists access to U.S Courts and prisoner rights. Amazingly the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff has vetured into the political arena and said the same thing.)
The situation is more grim than we realize. This is a battle where one side demands it end in four years or less and the other side is prepared to fight for a hundred years and endure horrific losses while doing so.

Honestly, I can't figure out what is going on. Seems like such a short time ago that McCain had been put in his place over the immigration shamnesty debacle and I was sure that would be the end of his presidential hopes. Why on earth has this suddenly turned around so dramatically with every big name R in the country supporting him? We as a country owe him respect and honor for his military service and awful years as a POW, but we don't owe him the presidency!

"--- Why on earth has this suddenly turned around so dramatically with every big name R in the country supporting him? ---"
I offer two possible explanations:
1) The GOP establishment elites have decided that "it's just his turn", and have published their marching orders to the upper echelon (R)s to endorse him, or (unspoken part) risk losing the favour of the party if/when their turn ever comes.
2) The MSM are chumping McCain up in a big way, only to make the tragic pouring of the ice-water when they turn on him as the race winds down to the head-to-head against the eventual (D) nominee.
I suspect the former over the latter... and if I hear Arnold in the background noise of my TV blather on again about how "McCain will work across the aisle", I think I will hurl.
